A New Generation
Chapter Two; "I'm Not Okay, I Promise."
"Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say
I never want to let you down or have you go, It's better off this way,
for all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
I'm not okay
You wear me out"

Aeris frowned when her mother handed her two suitcases. "You already had my stuff packed?" She asked, greatly distraught. Tohru smiled at her. "I went and got it after we made the decision." Aeris only frowned. Tohru smiled and kissed her forehead. "Trust me. You'll enjoy it." Aeris looked up at her mother, who smiled radiantly back at her. Yuki walked up to the two of them. "Are you ready to go, dear?" he asked. Aeris frowned. She wrapped her arms around Yuki. Tohru giggled. (Sometimes he transformed and sometimes he didn't, at least when Aeris hugged him). "Bye, daddy..." She tugged his coat. He kissed her cheek and pushed her back. "If you hold on too long, I'll turn into a rat." Aeris giggled and embraced her mother. "I love you two..." Aeris leaned back. "We have to be going now, Aeris. Take care."
"I will!"
"And, Kyo..." Yuki began, turning to look at the orange-haired man. "You, too. You'd better treat her good... if you don't I'll kick your ass, and you won't forget it." Kyo grit his teeth. "You can kiss my ass, Yuki! You know I wouldn't harm a hair on her head!" Yuki grinned. "Good. Because if you do-"
"Shut up and get the hell outta' here!" Aeris picked up her suitcases and began carrying them into the house as her parents drove off. "Hey, what do you think you're doin'?" Kyo asked. Aeris blinked in confusion. "I'm taking my stuff in." Kyo shook his head. "No, no, no! You're the guest here. You go in the house and make yourself at home." Aeris frowned. "Vincent! Get your lazy ass out here and carry the girl's stuff in!" Vincent appeared in the doorway. "You don't have to yell, I'm right here." He pulled his pinky out of his ear and slid his shoes on. "You don't have to carry them!" Aeris argued.
Vincent glared at her as he approached them. Kyo grinned. "You're as persistent as your mother," He said, laughing. He went back into the house.
Aeris frowned. "You don't look too happy... you okay?"
"Tch. He makes me do everything," Vincent began, picking up her suitcases, "Especially when we were back at the dojo... I did more cleaning than martial arts." Aeris frowned as she followed him upstairs. "Then, what was the use of having you there in the first place?"
"Ha. He said that doing the cleaning and other chores would increase discipline.. Hm Hm... haha! Yeah right... Kyo just wanted someone to clean so he wouldn't have to!" Aeris giggled. "He's gonna' be doin' the same crap here. I'm so sick of cleaning all the time, and cooking is the worst!" Aeris smiled. "He should hire a maid, then." Vincent paused and looked at her. "Wh... what?" She faltered.
He stared at her, his eyes full of thought. "You're right. And to think, I never thought of doing that."
Aeris smiled. "I'll get them from here," She said. She opened the door to her new room and pulled the cases in. Vincent looked around the room. "Is this your mother's old room?" Aeris looked up as she laid the suitcases on the bed. "Yeah." Vincent looked at the taped ceiling. "Wonder if Kyo did that," he thought. "I've never been in this room," he told her. "It smells kind of like vanilla..." Vincent added. Aeris giggled. "Mother always smells like vanilla for some reason." Vincent only inspected the room further.
Aeris looked up. "Well, if you'll excuse me..." He nodded and left the room, closing the door behind him. He headed downstairs, to find Kyo.
.........................
"You certainly took your sweet time," Kyo said. Vincent frowned. "Shut up."
"What were you two doing up there?"
"Are you implying something?!" Vincent asked, his ears pricking upwards. "No, you dumbass... did you talk, did you do anything?"
"We talked a bit..." Kyo smiled. "That's a start," he thought. He looked at Vincent. "What did you talk about?"
"What do you care?" Kyo raised an eyebrow. "You're pretty damned snappy lately, kid. I've fed you, I've clothed you, I've-"
"Put a roof over my head, raised me, yeah I know." Kyo felt his eye twitch. "You cocky little bastard..." he said in an undertone. "I get it from you," Vincent said through his clenched teeth. They were engaged in a full-scale staring contest. Aeris walked downstairs. "Guys?" she asked, worried. "What?!" They both snapped in unison, glaring menacingly at her. She frowned. "It's not nice to argue around guests," she said, giggling. Vincent turned his head away and propped his elbows on the table, his head in his hands. Aeris sat down at the far end of the table. "So, guys..." She seemed fidgety. Kyo looked at her curiously. "What?" he asked. Aeris's face turned red when her stomach made a 'wraaarrr' noise. She laughed nervously. "I take it you're hungry, hm?" Kyo asked, smiling. She nodded feebly. Kyo grinned. "Okay, go make some rice, Vincent!" Vincent felt his cat ears prick up again. "BITE ME!!!" He yelled.
Aeris frowned. "Guys, don't..." They continued to argue. "Err... guys?"
........................
Aeris looked out her window up at the night sky. "It's so pretty," she thought. She looked into her room. "It's stilly pretty empty," she thought. She heard something on the roof and reach over her balcony to try and see what it was. She frowned. "What is that???" She said, with great curiosity. She opened her door and found a way to get on the roof. She smiled and climbed up to see what was there.
She saw Vincent sitting there writing. She smiled to herself. He looked over at her. "Hello," he said, then turned back to his notebook. She climbed up onto the roof and walked over to him. She sat down very close to him, which made him close the notebook nervously. "What'cha writin'?" she asked, a warm smile on her face. He edged away from her. "None of your business, that's what." Aeris smiled to herself. "A journal, perhaps? A poem book, maybe? Songs?"
"I'll never tell."
"It has to be something along those lines, doesn't it?"
"Who is to say that it was even writing? It could have been pictures, or graphs, or something like that."
"You seemed awfully hurried to hide it."
"Yeah, because it's mine! It's my business and nobody else's."
"Oh, really?"
"Gr...." He put the book under his bottom so that she couldn't get it. Aeris frowned. "You're no fun!" Vincent stared out over the city. "It's getting late. You should get to bed." Aeris frowned again. "It's a weekend, ain't it?"
"it's midnight..."
"Oh... it's that late already??"
"Yeah." Aeris sighed. "Okay then, party pooper. Good night."
"Good night."
..........................
Aeris awoke to the sound of arguing downstairs and sighed. She hopped out of bed and pulled her day clothes on. She walked downstairs and found Kyo and Vincent arguing. She frowned sadly. "Guys, are you two at it already??" They both glared at her. "YES WE'RE AT IT!!" , The yelled simultaneously. She frowned. "After last night?s dinner, I'm afraid to ask what's for breakfast."
Vincent went into the kitchen. "Where are you goin'?! I ain't finished with you yet!" Aeris frowned. "Kyo, why do you argue with him like that??" Kyo sighed. "It's just my nature."
"Then, sit down." Kyo sat down and stared at the girl. "You're certainly an odd one, Aeris..." he looked at the floor and sighed. "This place is getting dirty again..." Aeris felt goosebumps forming on her arms. From above her, Vincent's slender arms sat a plate down in front of her. "You slept in. This is yours. it's a bit cold, but that's your own fault." She laughed nervously. Kyo looked at him. "The house is getting dirty again Vincent. You need to clean." Vincent felt a cold sensation lick his spine. "You lazy son of a--"
"Stop this!" Aeris yelled. They both glared at her. "Vincent, you're sick of doing the chores around here, and Kyo, you sure aren't gonna' do 'em! So why don't you hire a maid?!" Kyo and Vincent both stared at her in shock. She gasped, a bit scared that they would yell at her.
"You're right!" They both said simultaneously. Kyo looked at Vincent. "Vincent, go get me the newspaper!" Vincent grinned, going outside to fetch the paper. "Heh heh..." Aeris frowned. She felt that he was going to do something bad.
He came back in, his eyes evil, as he slapped the paper against his palm. "I got your newspaper right here, Kyo..." Aeris frowned. "NO, YOU GUYS!!!"
...........................
Kyo answered the phone. "Hello? Sohma residence."
"Ah... um... are you the person who wanted to hire a maid?"
"Yes... are you interested in the position? Can you clean and cook?"
"Yes, I can and I am interested... but... how much does it pay?"
"Well... we don't have much... does... 500 yen an hour sound fair enough?"
"Yes!"
Kyo blinked in confusion. "Can you start tomorrow?" he asked. "Yes, sir!" Kyo saw Vincent at the end of the hall tapping his foot impatiently. "And you read the address, correct?"
"Yes." Kyo smiled slightly. "Okay... be here by ten AM tomorrow morning, I guess."
"Okay, sir! Thank you very much!" He hung up the phone. "That was rude, Kyo." Vincent said. "What was rude?!"
"500 yen an hour? Maids get paid almost double that."
"You know damned well that the main house doesn't send us much money. We are cats, Vincent. They don't even have to support us! And now we have a lot less each month, since you're too damn lazy to do the chores."
"Well, EXCUSE ME!! I might not mind doing them so much if I had some HELP with them sometimes!"
Aeris giggled and looked out of her room. "You two have got to stop!" They looked peculiarly at her. She seemed far happier than she was yesterday and the day before that. "I'm sorry, it's just that... haha... you guys never stop! You're like two brothers rather than father and son." Vincent frowned. "He isn't my father." Kyo frowned on hearing that. It hurt him a bit. "I'm goin' downstairs." He said, storming off. Aeris frowned. "Vincent, that was a bit cruel..." Vincent scoffed to himself. "Ah, well." He went into his room and slammed his door shut.
Aeris closed her door behind her. "There doesn't seem to be much love between the two of them... even though Kyo raised Vincent, and they live here together..." She walked over and looked out of her window at the night sky. "I'd better finish my homework!" She thought, hopping on her bed and fidgeting in her backpack.
