Chapter 15
"How about this One?" Relena asked holding up a blue button down shirt with green stripes.
"I think that one might work. It's the best looking shirt yet," Heero said sounding exasperated. "Doesn't your brother own anything normal or believe in getting rid of old clothes?"
"No, but then again Milliardo has always been like that."
Heero took the shirt that Relena had found and tried it on, making sure it fit, before ending the search. The two of them had been going through Zechs' closet for the past half-hour trying to find something for Heero to wear and were getting nowhere fast.
Turning around to face Relena, Heero asked her, "How do I look?"
Relena just stared at him. He looked absolutely amazing with some nicer clothes on and it was only a shirt. But the way the blue brought out his eyes, and the green complimented...
?Hello? Earth to Relena? Are you alright over there??
Heero?s voice brought Relena back to reality.
?You look great Heero,? she finally said, slightly embarrassed that she had been caught staring.
"I need to take a quick shower before leaving with Noin. If Pegan comes for me before I'm out tell him I'll be down in a minute."
"I'll iron these for you while you're in the shower,? Relena said taking the shirt from him and laying them next to the slacks.
?Thank you. I won?t take long.?
As Heero showered and Relena ironed the shirt and slacks for him, Noin was finishing her talk with Zechs.
?Are you sure about this Zechs?? Noin asked worriedly.
?Positive.?
?But how can this be??
?I don?t know. Noin I need you to do me a favor. I need you to convince Heero to come in with you today. We could really use his help on this.?
?That won?t be a problem. He was planing on coming into talk to you about getting a job with the Preventers anyways.?
?He was? Why would he want to do that? It doesn?t matter. I?ll discuss the matter when he comes in. One other thing Noin. Don?t tell Relena.?
And with that Zechs hung up the phone.
Trembling slightly, Noin hung up the phone thoroughly shaken from their conversation.
?How can this be happening? After all the steps we?ve taken towards peace, and all the sacrifices people have made, I can?t believe there are still people out there who want to destroy it all.?
Pushing those thoughts from her mind momentarily, Noin composed herself and went to finish getting ready.
As Relena put up the iron, having finished with the slacks for Heero a knock came at the door.
?Noin, I didn?t expect to see you here.?
?I thought I?d come and see how you were doing,? Noin said, hoping Relena couldn?t tell that she was worried. ?Is Heero ready yet??
?No he?s still in the shower.? Right as those words left Relena?s mouth Heero stepped out of the bathroom.
?Relena could you hand me...? was all he got out.
Holding only a towel around his waist and still slightly wet, Heero stood with a shocked look on his face as he saw that his fianc? wasn?t the only one in the room. Turning around he headed back into the bathroom, going bright red in the cheeks. Noin and Relena both looked at each other in amazement, both red in the face, then turning away quickly for fear of bursting into laughter. Relena grabbed the shirt and slacks, walked over to the bathroom door and knocked.
?I brought your clothes.?
Heero opened the door slightly and took the clothes, murmured a thanks and shut the door again.
?So how?s Milliardo doing? He looked really worried when he left this morning?? Relena asked when she turned her attention back to Noin.
?He?s fine. Just another false threat.?
Luckily she didn?t have to explain more for Heero came out of the bathroom at that moment.
?How do I look?? he asked them.
Relena and Noin could only stare in utter amazement. What she had thought earlier was confirmed if not exceed by adding the slacks to the shirt he was wearing. Heero looked beyond handsome. The only way to describe it was that he looked like a vision. A vision of what you would imagine after reading a description in a romance novel.
Sensing that something was up, and not comfortable with the sudden silence, Heero spoke up.
?Shouldn?t we be leaving soon?? he asked Noin, who jumped as if just realizing he was standing there.
?Yes we really should be going. It?s still early but this will give you and Zechs more time to talk.?
Heero turned to Relena who had come to stand next to him. ?I?ll see you later this evening. I?m sure we?ll have a lot to discuss after my talk with your brother,? he told her dryly.
?Your just lucky the other committee members of the ESUN made me take a vacation or else I would be at work already and probably there still when you finished your talk with Milliardo.? Relena smiled at Heero and he just looked at her in utter amazement.
?Well I guess I should thank them shouldn?t I,? he said with a laugh. ?But that will have to wait.? Turning, he continued. ?Noin whenever you?re ready to leave I?m ready as well.?
?Then let?s be on our way.?
Heero nodded, then turned and bent down to kiss Relena before following Noin out of the room.
Noin and Heero made the trip to the Preventers Head Quarters in silence. Only once the had pulled into the parking facility used by top officials did Noin finally break the silence that had ensued them.
?Heero I know that you already know something is going on, but I can?t explain what?s happening. I?m still unsure of what is really going on myself so I will let Zechs explain the matter at length. On that note, Zechs has asked me to keep all of this from Relena and we are going to need your help in doing so. Before you say anything hear me out on this. If Relena finds out about this it will put more stress on her then we could imagine. The people of the world we live in see her as a symbol of our lasting peace and an incident like this would only make her work harder to try and bring that peace back. This can?t be allowed to happen for she has been working herself to death as it is and that is why the board made her take a vacation, although you?re the reason she agreed so easily. If she finds out about this the amount of stress it would put back on her would be immeasurable. Please Heero, whatever you do, please don?t tell Relena.?
The silence that followed led Noin to believe that Heero wasn?t going to go along with this but was surprised when he finally spoke.
?I don?t intend to keep anything from Relena now that we have finally taken the next step in our relationship, or rather the first step, but I can see how this matter is a special case. Indeed she has a great deal to do with our lasting peace and this matter would only increase her anxiety and stress levels. I will do my best to keep her from finding out as well as to keep her from over working herself.?
?Thank you Heero,? Noin said.
The two of them got out of Noin?s car and headed to a small elevator door. Noin swiped a security card, typed in a code, and spoke the words ?Lucrazia Noin?. The security lock clicked and said ?Welcome Lt. Noin? as the doors to the elevator opened. Heero and Noin got in and rode in silence up to the floor most of the offices were on.
?Zechs? office is all the way down this hall and then to the left. I have some paper work to see to before I meet with him so this is were I leave you for now.?
And with that Noin turned and walked the down the hall opposite the way she had told Heero to go.
Heero walked slowly down the long hall of offices wondering to himself if this is where he would have ended up if he hadn?t isolated himself after the war. Pushing that out of his mind he made his way toward Zechs? office. Outside, there was a circular space with a desk set in the middle behind which sat a very pretty looking secretary whom Heero swore he had seen before.
?I?m Heero Yuy, Zechs should be...? but that?s as far as he got before he was cut short by the secretary.
?I?m aware of who you are Mr. Yuy. Colonel Zechs is expecting you.?
Stunned but not completely surprised, Heero walked around the desk to the doors leading to Zechs? office. He was about to knock when a voice from inside said, ?Come in Heero, I?ve been expecting you.?
Heero entered and found Zechs staring out the window.
?Why am I not surprised that you knew I was at your door.?
?It?s good to see you too Heero,? Zechs joked. ?Noin tells me that you want to talk to me about getting a job with the Preventers.?
?That?s correct,? Heero responded. ?I was thinking that I could work in intelligence or maybe take over as Relena?s head of security.?
Zechs moved away from the windows and came around from behind his desk to stand in front of Heero.
?What makes you think we would even take you? It?s been years since you?ve had to use any of your training.?
?Well I got past all of her guards the other night didn?t I,? Heero stated rather defensively.
Zechs laughed at the seriousness of his former adversary.
?You would indeed make a fine head of security for your fianc? but I have more important things for you to be working on.?
Heero just looked at Zechs with a look of shock on his face.
?Noin told me that as well during our conversation. I?m glad that you have finally given into your feelings for my dear younger sister and honored that you will be a part of my family. There will be time for talk on that later. We have more pressing matters on hand.?
?Is the situation really that serious Zechs?? Heero asked sounding quite concerned.
?I?m afraid it?s worse. I believe we may need to call on the gundams once more.?
but you have moved away from that idea here in your story. Zechs and Relena act like a true brother and sister. It's nice. ^^
