Destined [1/?]

Post by Mellie »

Well, because I have all but a prod in my back *glares at mina* It is a mite long for CPC, so I'll put it here. I have not yet finished this series and haven't worked on it in a while, but maybe I will finish it now...?

Destined
Part One

By: Mellie
Warnings: Um...violence...?

The rain fell hard that night, obscuring vision of all items. It was just like the night Beka Johnson had met Alex Delano. She saw his silhouette in the downfall. ?Alex!?

The shadow of the man walked away, perhaps avoiding shame. ?ALEX!?

This time he paused. She took the chance to run towards him, trying to stop him. She placed her delicate hand upon his shoulder and he flinched. ?Alex? Why are you running??

?I cannot stay. Disaster follows me. You cannot get hurt.? As he said the last, he reached up to run his fingers along her jaw.

Beka grasped his hand, the cold rain having settled into him. ?I will be hurt if you leave, Alex. I cannot bear that pain.?

Alex looked torn, his gray eyes barely visible in the rain. He dropped her gaze, his hand not ready to leave hers. ?You know what will happen, Bek. That would be too much for me to witness. There are some things that I cannot protect you from, but I can protect you from me. Stay here. Your heart will heal and you will find another.?

?What about you??

?I will continue to move, trying to avoid the death that follows in my wake. Maybe I will settle down. Or maybe I will let it take me. Either way I want you to be safe, and in turn happy.?

The tears Beka cried fell with the rain, Alex not even noticing. He took his hand back and turned away from her. ?Good bye, Beka.?

Beka didn?t go after him as he went away. She felt in her heart she had to. She fell to the ground, the rough mud staining her dress. She watched him go from her life, watched until he was gone.

~~*~~
The years that followed his departure were not remembered for driving rain. The sun shone most days and the flora and fauna once again flourished. A sense of calm had come to the people there; there wasn?t the tension the wanderer had brought.

Beka hummed softly to herself as she swept her front porch. A soft breeze rustled the leaves and blew the dirt off her step. She smiled as a robin hopped about with its head cocked. ?Beka??

The deep voice of her fianc? caused her to turn and her face lit up in a smile. ?Devon.?

He smiled and drew her close to him. ?This is how I think of you. You are like the spring when life comes forth.?

Beka grinned and kissed his cheek. ?I think of you as the fall, when the world is crisp and everything is full of beauty.?

?Isn?t that a time of dying and decay??

Beka hit his shoulder and resumed her chores. ?I have to prepare the house for my sister and my mother. They are coming for our vows.?

?Can I help??

Beka shoved the broom at him. ?I?ll make lunch.?

She disappeared inside. Devon remained on the porch, not sweeping, but searching the woods around her house. A shadow had moved by, but he dismissed it as a shadow.

~~*~~
Beka nervously straightened her wedding dress. The hour of marriage approached and she had definite second thoughts. Her mother fawned over her and touched her hair. ?You are the most beautiful bride, Bek.?

?All mothers are obligated to say that.? It was Beka?s sister, Cali, who spoke up.

And then it began to rain. It was not the gentle showers April granted. But it was a hard and unforgiving rain that pounded on the window and disturbed the wildlife. Beka drew forth to the window, not sure why.

A silhouette appeared just across the road. Beka placed her hand to the window in an odd longing. ?Beka??

?I really wanted to be married outside.?

?I know, sweetie. We?ll just have to move it indoors. We have some decorations all ready. It will take moments to get it all ready. Cali, come help me.?

Her mother and sister left the room, but Beka remained fixed at the window. The shadow moved closer, forgotten features coming into focus. ?Alex??

He placed his hand on the other side of the glass and his face contorted into a smile. ?I have escaped.?

Beka smiled, ridding herself of her cumbersome gown and slipping into her sweats. She slipped out the window and took his hand. Together they began to walk away from what she knew and to what he knew. Beka had no fear as she followed the man her heart had claimed.

They reached the forest, where a thick canopy shielded them from the onslaught of rain. He brought her to a little nook and placed a blanket over her. ?The rain will go tomorrow.?

Beka looked up at him and smiled. ?I know. It was the same way last time. It has been so long, Alex.?

?I had to be sure. I didn?t want anything to happen to you.?

Beka looked up into his face and saw he had changed but little. His hair was still shaggy and brown. His eyes were still the most confounding gray. And she still felt safe with him.

Beka knew she had changed. She had cut her long hair and died it black. Her ocean blue eyes were harder and yet still reflected who she had once been. ?Don?t leave me ever again.?

?I will do all I can.?

Beka fell into a peaceful sleep. She awoke with the birds singing their melodious tune. She stretched and smiled. ?Good morning, Alex.?

There was no reply and she opened her eyes to look around. He had left his blanket for her, but there was nothing else to signify he had gone.

The skies were clear and the occasional stream from the water bowled leaves fell in perfect harmony. Beka stood to look around, trying to locate Alex. ?Alex??

?Beka.?

That wasn?t Alex?s voice. It sounded just like Devon. Beka whirled. There stood Devon, blood on his shirt. ?Think you could just run off, Rebekah? Think again.?

He laughed in a harsh voice as he took hold of Beka?s shoulder and sunk his fingers into her flesh. Beka cried out as he pulled her into a cave. Alex lied on the ground, blood forming a small pool from underneath him. Beka looked to Devon in horror.

?His plague was me.?

Beka screamed as he threw her to the floor. A knife blade glinted in a shaft of light and imbedded into the wall next to her head. ?I have taken so much from Alex. I took his family, his home, his friends, and his life. I always hoped I could take his woman.?

Beka got up to run but a sharp pain in her leg made her fall. ?Don?t go anywhere, girlie. I want him to see you die.?

Wow  That was really good. So Devon took Alex's identity? Why? Was he the 'death' that was following Alex around?

I am intrigued now so keep it comming Mellie!
There are some who say
an array of horsemen,
and others of marching men,
and others of ships, is
the most beautiful thing on the dark earth.

I say it is whatever one loves.
