Could anybody help me with this one?

"Once, when I was younger, the kids in my class played a game where they went around assigning everyone the name of a fruit. I asked them 'what should I be?' They laughed and told me 'You can be the rice ball'. Then they started running around chasing each other, playing... Every so often, they'd call out the name of another fruit, and that child would get to join in. But they never called me. I was too dumb to realize...there's no rice ball in a fruits basket."

Could anybody help me with this one?

How long has it been since I?ve posted? A long time, as far as I can gather. It feels like forever. Excuses for not updating/finishing my story? My brother moved, my sister got pregnant, then had a miscarriage, my grandfather died, school and work, babysitting, applying for college. In other words life. So to anyone who cared about All Things Considered, I have every intention to finish my story.

Anyway, that isn?t what I?m posting about. I would like some help with this one. Maybe it?s because I?m crazy or I?ve had too much time on my hands lately, but I?ve been thinking about things in involving this series. Kyoko is beginning to become a character of interest to me (not that she wasn?t before, mind you). It?s just now I?m beginning to wonder about her involvement with the Sohma family. Before she was Tohru?s dead mother, a fact easily understood. Her death was dealt with in the manga (which was always something I respected about this manga. They didn?t just kill her off because they could, but because it was actually important to the story.) It affected Tohru in ways that the reader could see and identify with and (in my book) made her a more likable character that one could attach themselves to and try to understand.

But now Kyoko seems to be much more than just a convenient plot device (which dead parents often are in anime. Has anyone else noticed the absence of parents in many shows? Maybe it?s just me again). Anyway, it appears Kyoko has more involvement with the Sohma family than I originally thought. *Spoilers if you haven?t read past chapter 90 ish* Kyoko has a conversation with Kyo when he?s a very young boy, outlining her early relationship with Katsuya (Tohru?s father, if anyone forgot). And it occurred to me, why would an adult tell and complete stranger, and a child no less, about her struggles in her early marital life. And further more, what kind of parents let their kid hang out with someone they don?t know for any amount of time (I realize that Kyo didn?t have the best parents, but still. What if Kyoko had been overcome with his chibi cuteness and had to hug him? Their secret would be out, and his parents couldn?t take those kind of chances). If his mother was as over protective as the earlier chapters made her out to be, then it couldn?t have been while she was around, unless she knew Kyoko. Maybe Kyo lived with Kazuma at the time, but I still don?t think Kazuma would have left a young Kyo alone with someone he didn?t know.

Another thing that bothers me is that they don?t reveal Kyoko?s maiden name (or if they have, I haven?t read it. Could someone tell me if they have? It would save me a lot of useless brooding time).

I also wonder at Tohru?s grandfather. I think he might know something, too. Who lets their grandkid live with three guys they don?t know? One might say these things aren?t important, IT IS MANGA (and like I said, they might not be, I could just be nuts), but I don?t think Natsuki Takaya is that kind of writer. I thinks she takes that kind of stuff into account. She uses tricky little clues. Look at Tohru?s hat *Spoiler* She got that from Yuki, but I spent months thinking she got it from Kyo until I read a summary or transcript or something of Chapter 82 ish I think*End Spoiler* And then there?s the bathroom situation. Tohru has her own bathroom, thus we can all avoid the ?period question?. Then again, maybe I have too much time on my hands. Anyway, if anyone could give me something to refute any of this, I would really appreciate it. I?m tired of thinking about it.

P.S. If anyone?s wondering if I have a Sohma preference for Tohru, I don?t care who she ends up with as long as she ends up with one of them. It would totally blow that I put all of this emotional energy into her love of this family and she dies or ends up with some prick that gets introduced in the last chapter. Sigh.

Anyway, thanks for reading this potentially useless rant. :salute:

Im totally there with you, man. i too have wondered about Kyoko's relationship with Kyo. Is she his aunt? they have the same hair? there is much speculation that she is also a sohma. But if she is, does Kyo know? Why won't he tell Tohru? Im still trying to figure out what Kyoko wont forgive Kyo for?Could it be she didnt want Tohru to know about the curse? or to get involved because of Akito? oy, so many questions. and yea, it would suck big time if she died in the end @_@ actually, it was suck if ANYONE died in the end ;_; i would even be sad if Akito died >_<...psycho that she is...
