What a Difference a Gun Makes?
The Akuma club sat very inconspicuously above a boutique down an alley. There were lights glittering the words Akuma but it was almost as if it was hidden from plain view, something for only the people truly in the know to have any idea of its whereabouts. The only sign that there were actually people in the building was the one man who stood outside in the cold moving his legs around as if he was too nervous to be standing in one place.
Kagome nearly tip toed across the alleyway opening passing the nervous man and listening for any other soul that wasn't drunk. She had to do this. She wasn't about to prove anybody right but herself. If she didn't get that girl back, Hojo would never let it go and tell her over and over how she needed to be taken care of.
What was she supposed to do when a person pulls a gun on her?
She had been sitting in the front seat with the quiet girl in a car she would never be able to afford in her lifetime. Kagura and Yura had left twenty minutes earlier and while Kagome had tried to speak to Ayame and smile even she could see the absurdity of the situation.
The car heater had made the car almost unbearable but it was too cold to turn it off and instead Kagome had opted to roll down the window a little to let some air in but keep the car toasty. While fiddling with the CD player knobs searching for a song she hadn't heard a million times, Ayame had finally spoken.
"Why are you here?" the girl had said her words breaking the silence swallowing them. Something leaky was dripping water onto the top of the car randomly creating a beat on the metal frame.
The question had take Kagome by surprise for the fact that she wasn't too sure why she here either. She needed something different, she felt as if her life wasn't going the way it was supposed to be; that the things in her life weren't something she deserved. But why had she exactly chosen to ask Yura to bring her along?
"Because I think I should be?" That was the most truthful answer Kagome could come up with.
"Are you afraid for your friends?"
"No they can take care of themselves."
The young girl shook her head, her hair bouncing dim sparks of light off of it. "No not this time. Kikyo is there tonight." She turned her brown eyes to Kagome finally and showed the anger and fear she felt. "Kikyo is very loyal to the Wolves, she believes in us. Her loyalty ..." she left her words hanging for Kagome to fill in.
Her words had filled Kagome with an almost foreboding feeling. She didn't know who Kikyo was but the way Ayame had spoken about her didn't leave Kagome with good thoughts. Loyalty could cause a person to kill. Beliefs pushed people to fight to prove their convictions. Maybe this Kikyo person was like that. But then again should she believe someone who was obviously the enemy?
Kagome was so deep in her thoughts she never heard anyone creeping up beside her of even the decisive click as the gun was cocked. But that nudge at the side of her head did bring her out of her thoughts quite quickly.
She had to stifle the scream that was bubbling into her mouth. Her wide eyes twitched to the person holding the gun. She wasn't that much older than Kagome; her black hair swept into a ponytail and her dark brown eyes held a cold determination as she stared down Kagome.
A hand brushed past Kagome as Ayame put her hand to the metal weapon. "Don't Sango she doesn't really belong here."
So that was how Kagome ended up following those girls, hoping to get Ayame before Yura and Kagura got back. After the two had left her unharmed, Kagome had thought about staying put and waiting for someone to return but she was afraid another look from Kagura might have just killed her on the spot. Besides there was no reason to give Hojo or Yura for that matter anything they could use against her.
They too had bypassed the alleyway opening and instead had walked behind the building. Kagome could feel the cold metal of the gun scrap across her skin as she crouched low to ground looking around her trying to blend in with the scenery. She had taken it from the black duffel bag that had been stuffed in the trunk of the car. Before Yura and Kagura had left, they had pulled their own guns from the bag.
"I thought you said you were a distraction."
"We are. Just a very loud one."
She had counted slowly to a hundred before following Ayame and her rescuer through the thick metal doors. The back was dark and cluttered. Clothing hung from racks almost like the back of a butcher's shop. Plastic rustled causing Kagome's hairs to stand on end. She couldn't guess if the sound was from her walking through the racks or the air conditioner or someone else?
A muted light from under a doorway on the second floor acted like a small beacon for Kagome. The boutique was on the first floor the club was the second, and if they wanted to get to Akuma they would have had to climb steps. Trying very hard not to stumble and break something Kagome climbed upstairs being very mindful of every groan the metal made as she stepped on a step.
Pulling open the door, she blinked as her eyes tried to absorb all the light that flooded the tiny hallway. There was no one there though and the hallway spelt in two different directions. She closed her eyes trying to listen for any footfalls but nothing came to her. There was equipment littering the floor and dead lights silently lay unused. The left side seemed darker than the right and Kagome really didn't want to face anyone in a darkened hallway.
I can go right or left? Kagome steeled herself for whatever may lay to her right as she turned the corner. More boxes greeted her as she stepped over heaps of plastic sheets and around black metal chairs. The young girl was trying very hard to stay calm but the pounding in her ears from her heart was telling her that being calm at the moment was not an option. There was another door standing yards away from her, she could hear music muted and thrumming through the floor.
Metal clanking on metal caused Kagome to stop in her tracks. She glanced at the door before turning slowly and looking behind her, but nothing was there. Just mice or some other rodent?it's okay. But she still took out the gun and held it tightly in her hand.
To be honest Kagome had never handled a gun. But she guessed that she had the gist of the workings from watching so much TV and American movies. Flip the little handle, point and pull the trigger. She had never thought a gun would weigh so much in her hand or be surprised by the coldness that gripped her as she held it. The power to take a life in her hands; it was such a sobering thought.
Inching closer to the door, Kagome couldn't help the feelings of worry that suddenly sprung upon her. I shouldn't be here. But she was and there was no place to run to, there was no one but her to help herself. She took a deep breath to steady slight shaking. Another clank of metal caused the tiny muscles in her ears to rove behind her.
Another clank and a skitter of plastic grabbed her attention; she quickly turned her head in the direction of the noise and to the hole of the barrel of a gun.

Imagine Inuyasha's surprise at seeing Sango running up the steps of the club with Ayame in tow. His friend looked very proud of herself as she pulled Ayame with her to the landing where most of the gang was sitting. Ayame had been gone for less than a week and everyone was worried about her except for Inuyasha. He knew his brother's tactics for war and he doubted Sesshoumaru would really harm a girl, let alone a girl who wasn't even involved as much as someone like Sango or Kikyo.
Both girls had come running up the stairs chirping about the parking garage and some girl that neither of them had ever seen. The announcement of a new person had caught Inuyasha's attention, he asked if she followed them and they said no but he could see the uncertainty in their eyes.
Ayame had instantly asked where Kouga was and Inuyasha had pointed her to the back of the lounge. Inuyasha was walking down the steps of the thumping club, before Kouga had even seen his girlfriend. Sango had said they had taken the back entrance to get inside the club and if the girl had any since she would do the same. There would be no way she could have gotten past the bouncer in the front.
Pushing his way through the throng of drunk and dancing bodies, Inuyasha wondered again why he was there. Yes Kouga had said he needed his right hand man to make sure things went smoothly for the club and Kikyo did want to go too, but he wasn't in the mood to party all night at the moment. He had a headache thanks to a very loud speaker blasting away at his eardrums and the smell of sweat and all the ?pheromones of the humans and other demons always did distract him.
Stepping through the back doors that lead to the empty section of the building, Inuyasha walked as stealthily as possible. Sango hadn't said anything about the girl being a demon so he could probably sneak up on her. He found her walking very slowly to the door that would have led her to the landing and lounge that all the Wolves were seated at. He almost felt sorry for her; it was obvious she didn't know what she was doing. He could hear her frantic jack hammer heart and the slight shake of her hand as it held the gun.
If she hadn't been holding that gun he would have just sneaked up on her and knocked her out. But she was nervous and nervous people shouldn't be handling any type of weapons at all; from experience Inuyasha knew they misused them very easily. Her fear was painting the walls, making the air thick and almost unbearable in that tiny hallway.
It was almost too easy to get almost right behind her. This girl couldn't possible working for his brother that would be a far too stupid thing to do. She was too much of a liability. Inuyasha's gun was ready as she turned her head to him. There was a spike in her fear and her heart sounded as if it was about to burst. Her dark brown eyes popped open in surprise and the gun she was holding fell to the ground with a clatter.
"Kick the gun over to me." Inuyasha ordered. The gun skidded to a stop beside his left foot. "Kneel." He growled. He sniffed at the air trying to get below the spark of fear. There was something? odd about her. He could just get a whiff of it. It reminded him of someone but he couldn't place who. He watched her kneel and thought of what was in front of him. She was obviously the girl that had been with Ayame. Inuyasha could smell her all over the girl.
"What are you doing here?" he demanded.
She bit her lip, her eyes shifting in indecision. "I got lost?"
With a smirk at her bad lie he replied, "Do you think I believe that? You smell like those Demons and you have a gun." Inuyasha clicked his gun. He wasn't going to shoot her; he didn't shoot girls. But people tended to speak more when they thought they were in danger. "What are you doing here?" he asked again his voice growing tight.
She deepened her breath and he could almost see the thoughts zipping through her mind. "I'm not apart of the Demons? This is a club I may have brushed up against one or something."
Inuyasha highly doubted that. The girl didn't look like she had just stepped away from a club hell the girl didn't even look she had ever been to one. He took in her apparel, not the usual club outfit of heels and a tight shirt or even the usual odd outfit.
He was about to motion for her to stand when he heard footsteps coming up behind him. There was a scuttle of metal clanking metal. Inuyasha turned his silver head towards the sound, putting his back to the girl. He really didn't think the girl would do anything to him. But before he knew it he was falling. The cold cement his only cushion on impact. Lifting his head with a small groan, Inuyasha turned to look at a gun pointed squarely at his head. His own gun had fallen from his hand when he fell. The girl looked angry. She glanced behind him at the door and he did to. He saw two girls both with black hair and handguns. They were from Sesshourmaru's, Yura and Kagura.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe I did that.
Kagome was staring in disbelief at the silver-headed boy down on the floor. When he had turned his head she had slipped her hands around his ankles and pulled as hard as she could to make him fall into the floor. The gun had still been pointed to her head but she reasoned that there was no way he could shoot with his head turned? right? His gun had fallen from his grip and she scrambled to pick it up. She hadn't heard anything except for the sound metal hitting metal.
She looked up into the shocked faces of Kagura and even Yura.
"What are you doing out of the car?" Yura asked. She couldn't believe the scene before her. Inuyasha brought to his knees by a girl who didn't even know how to use a gun.
"Ayame got a way." She said quietly. She was looking at the man on his knees before her. He had the same silver hair as Sesshoumaru; it was longer though tumbling down his back. His eyes held the same gold color except right now they had a tinge of red to them. He was staring at her. She was slightly pissed; the guy had sniffed her like she was a piece of meat.
"You let Ayame get away?" Yura asked as she walked over to Kagome, skirting around the boy who was slightly growling. She kicked the gun away from his foot not wanting him to somehow get a hold of it.
Kagura snorted and smugly said, "I told you she shouldn't have come."
Kagome frowned at that. This was the reason she had come inside to get Ayame. "I wanted to get her back?"
"It doesn't matter now." Yura said interrupting. She turned her attention to the boy on the floor. He was simply sitting there with a very angry scowl scrawled across his features.
A smile jumped to Yura's lips. "Inuyasha don't feel bad that a girl got you." Her voice was sweetened as if talking to a child. "Really it doesn't mean anything ?"
The boy opened his mouth as if to speak but Yura simply raised her gun and thumped it against his head. "No talking Inuyasha." Yura said sweetly, her red lips looking particularly hungry.
"Yura we don't have time." Kagura snapped as she stepped over to Inuyasha. "Inuyasha you should really rethink this alliance you have with the wolf." She began her voice dripping with disgust. "Sesshoumaru is your brother-"
"My half-brother." He muttered staring Kagura in the eye. Kagome could see the strain it was for him to not say more; to not move from his seated position. Half-brother? She had never before heard anything about Sesshoumaru having any living relatives let alone a brother. It did explain the hair and eyes though?just not the ears.
Kagura continued speaking ignoring Inuyasha's interruption. "You know who will win Inuyasha. Don't be a fool." She said as she began to pace around him.
"Being on the same side of Naraku means Sesshoumaru will lose." He said his eyes following her.
"Inuyasha, loyalty is-"
"Is something you don't know about." He spat. The statement caused Kagura to stop in her tracks. "I've seen you with Sesshoumaru. I'm sure Naraku would find that really loyal of you." there was a smirk of defiance on his face even with a gun pointed at him.
That seemed to have deflated the small tirade that Kagura had been on. The tone of her voice dropped to something more venomous, "I'm tired of talking to you Inuyasha." She said walking around to face his back. "You'll see soon enough what a pathetic bastard you are." She promptly lifted her fist holding the gun and brought it down on the back of his head effectively knocking him out.
"Come on. We still have work to do." Kagura snapped ignoring Kagome's shocked face and Yura's very questioning glance. She stepped over Inuyasha's unconscious body towards the door that held the thumping music at bay.
