Chapter 7 (The End)



Heero led Relena into an open room with old machinery and wood crates. He left Relena inside one of the crates and told her to stay put.

They guys entered cautiously scanning the room for movement. Skillfully, silently, Heero darted through the crates to the right of the thugs. Relena peered through a knothole and saw the men closing on her crate.

One of the guys spotted something out of the corner of his eye. Thug: ?I see somethin!? A shadow ran between the crates. The thugs turned, and opened fire, pouring bullets right through the crates. The thug on the other side stopped firing. Thug: ?Go check it out.?

The guy on the other side heard something and turned around. Heero was standing out in the wide open no less then an inch from him.

The rest of the thugs heard a scream of horror and found the man was gone. Another thug heard something fly through the air. He turned and met a steal beam that went right through his heart. Thug: ?Holy shit!? They fired wildly hoping they hit something. The thugs stopped at backed against each other.

They looked up and saw a loft with crates stacked up on each other. They stared at the crates for a second when it moved. The crates started to rock and one of the thugs shouted, ?Oh my god!?

Just then, all the crates came falling. They crushed all but four of the terrified men. Thug: ?I don?t know about you, but I?m getting the hell out of here!? Other Thug: ?Coward! Come back here!? The thug ran to the door and flung it open to find Heero standing right in front of him. He took his gun and slit his throat.

The other three turned and Heero dropped them like flies.

Relena slowly crept out of the crate. She stared at Heero in shock at the site of him surrounded by bodies without a spec of blood on him.

Relena: ?What are you??

Heero looked up at her. Slowly, he approached Relena and threw away his gun. Heero came face to face and looked her in the eye.

Heero: ?I?m an assassin. Since I was a boy, I killed people for a living, even before I met you.?

Relena: ?I don?t believe you.? Heero: ?I?m serious. I love you, Relena. Ever since I saw you, I have always thought about you.?

Relena: ?I love you too. Just because you are an assassin doesn?t mean that?s the only thing you?ll ever be. If you testify against the mafia, you will be granted immunity for whatever crimes you may have committed.?

Heero: ?I won?t betray the Family.?

Relena: ?Are you really going to go on killing people? Do you really enjoy killing??

Heero: ?No, I don?t. The Family still means more to me than anything.?

Relena: ?Then why did you let me live??

Heero: ?I-? Relena: ?The Family only rewards failure with death. If you truly cared for it so much, you would have died rather let me live.?

For once in his life, Heero was speechless. She was absolutely right. He knew know why he didn?t fire. Why he didn?t let her die so many times. For the first time in his life, Heero had something worth living for. But his love, witch had taken the form of this beauty, had a price.

Heero can?t lose this.

He couldn?t survive without her. Without Relena, life isn?t worth living. Heero would remain in the confines of the frozen wastelands of his heart. He wouldn?t be able to live.

Heero stared at the site of Relena. Her beauty, her nobility, her purity. Roxanne was nothing like this. She was only interested in money, power, a pleasurable life working to obtain rule of everything within her field of vision. No, she was not good at all. The world she had created was not worth protecting.

Relena came closer and wrapped her arms around Heero. She rested her head on his chest and said, ?Oh Heero, does the Family really mean more to you than me??

Heero tilted her head up and said, ?No. I?ve decided, I?ll testify against the Family on one condition.?

Relena: ?What?s that??

Heero kneeled to Relena and took her by the hand, ?Will you consider my hand in marriage??

Relena: ?If I will marry you??

Heero: ?Yes.?

Relena: ?Why Heero, of course I will!?

Heero held her in his arms and gazed at the precious site of her. She returned the gaze and kissed Heero passionately.

Through a hall, prison guards guided Roxanne into a larger room filled with doors. As she walked along the doors listening to the screams and catcalls, she thought back to the trial.


Memory?

Bailiff: ?Docket number 314. Name: Roxanne Marintia. Charges are thirteen counts of first-degree murder, eight counts of second-degree murder, two counts manslaughter in first and second degree, and three hundred and twenty-four counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

The guard opened the door. As she stepped through, she thought back.

Prosecutor: ?The deal?s simple. Save us the time spent at trial and we won?t pursue the death penalty, but without reprove or parole, you will spend your life in prison. Lawyer: ?Can?t we negotiate for parole?? Prosecutor: ?We have enough evidence to convict everyone in your family. The Chinese mafia is dead. The less work we have to do, the better.? Lawyer: ?We aren?t dealing unless we chance of parole-? Roxanne: ?I?ll do it.? Lawyer: ?But-? Roxanne: ?Your services are no longer required.?

End Memory


The door slammed home. Roxanne was in shock from the site of her most trusted Family member on the stand. One by one, people she trusted, people she treasured, people she loved, were sent to their demise. One swift blow. That?s all it took. All her life, she suffered a whorish life. The time came when she reaped what sowed, and she thought she was finally happy.

Guard: ?Hey Roxy, you got visitors.? Roxanne came to the small window and saw Heero and Relena. The real shock came we she saw the rings on their fingers.

Roxanne: ?Well, Heero. Congratulations. I thought it would be Amanda. She was so in love with you. To bad you had to protect that whore.?

Relena: ?What did you say?? Heero held her shoulder. Heero walked up to the door and said, ?I came to have your blessing.? Roxanne: ?You can?t be serious.? Heero: ?I love her, Roxanne.? Roxanne: ?So you betrayed the Family for your love. You?re week. The Family means more than that. It means more than anything else and you betrayed that.?

Relena: ?Killing meant more than love??

Roxanne: ?It wasn?t about killing. It was about power. Order in the world we lived in, and we were at the top. That was the kind of life that was presented to us. The path laid in front of us. The circle we lived in. If that meant killing others, then so be it.?

Heero: ?That?s the reason, we had to kill all the time.?

Roxanne: ?They were nothing but criminals. She was interfering with our work, and for every person we killed, a hundred were being saved. We kept the peace.?

Heero: ?Before I met Relena, I had never thought about the value of life. It didn?t matter if it was faceless enemies or someone I knew. When I realized I loved her, I realized how precious she was to me. How her life was precious, how it was something that shouldn?t be destroyed, and that all life was to precious to just take away.?

Roxanne: ?You are a murderer, Heero. Even if you wanted leave your life of killing, you couldn?t. Do you honestly think you can lead a normal life??

Relena: ?Yes, he could. If you can face the past, you can put it behind you.?

Roxanne: ?And you, Relena, how could you spend your life with this murderer? How could you share yourself with and be a part of a murderer??

Relena: ?Because I love him!? Relena cried, ?I love him with all my heart! He?s not a murderer anymore, and that?s enough for me.?

Roxanne stared at them for a moment, watching Heero hold his breath for the first time. She sighed, walked back to her bed and sat down. She looked at Heero and thought about the past. How she found a small baby on the black market, how she pleaded with her boss who slapped her down for asking, how she trained and watched Big Johny taught him what he knew, and how he saved her during that fire fight.

Roxanne: ?To me, love is an illusion. A fairytale that fortunate people get to live in throughout their lives.? Roxanne sighed, ?Herro,? and shook her head. Roxanne: ?While I?ll never forgive you for betraying us, if you want to leave my circle and have my blessing, then very well. Heero and Relena Yuy, you have my blessing. The only reason I do this is because I care for you Heero. You were the only reason I had for living, your happiness means everything to me. It always has ever since I met you.?

Heero: ?Thank you.?

Heero walked off, Relena nodded to Roxanne, said thank you, and followed Heero. Roxanne came to the door and stared as they left the prison. Roxanne: ?And now life?s not worth living anymore.? Roxanne sat down on the bed and took off her shoe. She peeled off a piece her toenail and pulled a small object out of it.

Heero and Relena walked out of the prison in each other?s arms. Relena: ?Heero, would you say that this is a fairytale ending?? Heero: ?No, it?s a happy ending-? The prison wall exploded. When Heero and Relena turned, they saw a gaping hole where a cell was. Two guards came to the door. Guard one: ?Who?s cell was this?? Guard two: ?Roxanne Marintia.?

Relena gasped. Heero stared. Heero: ?Apparently? she made her choice.? Heero took Relena by her shoulder and said, ?Come on.?

This is where this story ends. In a church, on a beautiful summer day. The minister read the wedding vows and Heero and Relena. Minister: ?Heero Yuy, do you take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife for as long as you shall live??

Heero: ?I do.?

Minister: ?And do you, Relena Peacecraft, take this man to be your lawful wedded husband for as long as you shall live??

Relena: ?I do.?

Minister: ?By the power vested in me, I herby join these two people. If anyone here believes these two should not be joined, speak now, or forever hold your peace. No response came.

Minister: ?I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.? And if Heero ever had a passionate kiss, if he ever found true happiness and love, this was it.
