The Waltz (rated G! for once)

Notes: I've spent the past week reading HP Draco/Ginny fics. This is what happens.



The strains of a waltz filled the room as couples danced on the ballroom floor. It was yet another political ball, this time in the honor of Quatre Raberba Winner's visit to Earth. But for the two of them, it was much more personal. They were the minister and the Preventers' head of security but tonight, they were just two other guests at this ball.

They were yet another couple gliding on the floor doing the waltz. His hand was on her waist as his other hand held hers as he twirled her around. His dark blue eyes looked cold as ever to any person passing by as he kept watch around the room but when he looked down at her, they softened. It was obvious that they were a matched pair as many of the other dancers stopped dancing to watch them. They were in time to every note of the waltz as his hand tightened on her waist. He was keenly aware of everyone?s eyes on them but he refused to let her know that. Her eyes were closed, one hand around his neck while the other was joined to his. She trusted him to lead her and he treasured that.

He smiled inwardly as she smiled at him as her eyes opened. She whispered, "Dancing with you always remind me of our first dance together." He blushed slightly while his facial expression stayed stoic. She murmured, "I was attracted to you the first time I met you but I believe that was the time I first started to fall in love with you." Her head rested on his shoulder as she did not expect a reply from him. Years of being with this man had taught her to not expect speech outside of when it was needed.

She let out a happy sigh as he continued to guide them. They were both older, much older than they were when they first met. She found it hard to believe that it was over twenty five years ago that they had first met. So much had changed during that time but much had stayed the same. She pressed a kiss to the side of his neck as she continued to think.

Back then, they were just fifteen year olds who quickly grew up to play the adult games that war and politics had demanded that they participate in. She was the spoiled brat who became a woman far too soon in that year. He had always seemed older than his years, the proud assassin who would let nothing come in between his completing his mission. That had been a crazy year and when everything ended; she never thought that she would meet him again, especially after he had helped defeat that brief rebellion in 196. Yet, when he returned to her in 199, she knew that they would never be apart again.

She looked up at him before he twirled her around on the dance floor. His hair was no longer completely dark brown; he had a sprinkling of gray at his temples as well as slightly lines on his forehead and crows feet at his eyes. She also looked older as well; she got an unfortunate streak of white in her hair at the age of twenty-six that she blamed on the stupidity of politics. She had faint laugh lines and slight crow?s feet at her eyes. But as he leaned down and brought his lips to hers, she could not help but be thankful that she was able to spend her life with him.

As the song ended and the other guests began to clap, Relena blushed. The clapping was short-lived as Heero gave everyone his trademark glare. Then he squeezed her fingers and Relena smiled. He loved her, she loved him and that was all that mattered.

Quite what I would expect from GW universe if ever it came to that time, 25 years later into the lives of these two characters. Neat!
