Chapter Six: Revealed
A blanket of deafening silence hung in the midnight air.
Heero Yuy darted swiftly through darkened alleyways. He hadn?t taken a horse with him for transportation, preferring to accomplish his mission on foot. A faint mist of light precipitation lingered, but he disregarded his damp clothing and his wet hair, focused only on his target.
The target in question made steady progress through the fog, never faltering, for which he felt resentful admiration. He was sure the target was not aware of his stalking presence, oblivious to the impending danger. Heero remained aloft, though, gave his target ample space to move about before he made the capture.
His target clutched at a brown, dingy cotton bag. He eyes the bag in contempt. What did its contents hold? Priceless artifacts he?d collected? Gaudy jewelry he?d left scattered about his home?
No matter. He would catch the thief. He would catch Relena.
Heero frowned. Did she really believe that she could escape him unnoticed? He, the famed assassin, renowned around the world for his deadly expertise, for his accuracy and efficiency in doing away of far too many human lives. She wasn?t what he thought her to be. She had to be an actress of immense caliber to have completely fooled the Perfect Soldier.
He could have caught her long before, could have dragged her back to his bed when she slipped from his room that night. Yes, he would bring her back, even if he cursed himself for a fool. She may have been naught but an actress, but he still desired her. He defiantly refused to acknowledge that stab in his chest he felt whenever she looked at him, the annoying alien feeling that assaulted him when he held her.
He refrained from apprehending her just as yet, though. Dark curiosity demanded that he know of her destination. Was she meeting her lover, a co-conspirator? The endless possibilities ran through his head as he tracked her movements. His curiosity was quickly appeased as he realized where she was heading. She had taken a narrow path that led to one place alone. The city gates. She certainly had mettle, if she thought to flee the city by herself.
The muscles in his body tightened abruptly as he watched from the shadows as the silhouetted form of a man intercepted Relena, a stagger in his walking gait. Was this her lover? He observed the interaction between the two. What the hell were they discussing? How they would divide his property?
His dark thoughts of her betrayal suffered a swift death when the man grabbed Relena by the shoulders forcefully, then pushed her roughly, throwing her off balance and causing her to fall.
Undiluted rage coursed through him. Incensed, Heero closed the distance that separated him from the object of his fury. With barely constrained bloodlust, Heero stepped between Relena and her assailant. ?Is there a problem here, sir??
?Heero?? Relena?s head snapped up upon hearing the familiar voice. Relief filled, but was just as quickly replaced by dread. She quickly rose from her position on the dirt road and hastily retreated, away from her liberator.
?This ish betweeein me?an the woman!? the man declared in slurred, uneven tones.
?It seems the woman does not wish to speak with you,? Heero responded in the same low, inexpressive voice as before.
The idiot had to have impaired senses to miss the chilled warning. ?Do you know who yer talkin? to? Hmmm?? The man stuck his thumb to his chest, stumbled. ?I am..hiccup..am a man of?great honor. You should mind yer damn business.?
?The woman is my business. I own her. You should leave.?
?Are ya tellin? me what to do?? The man stared into the unrelenting stony expression on the younger man?s face. ?Just who do you think you are, son??
?I am not your son. My name is Heero Yuy.?
A moment of tense silence filled the air. The stranger licked his chapped lips, trepidation in his posture. ?Who are you shittin???
No response.
?You? scrawny young buck couldn?t be Heero Yuy,? the man mumbled, defensively. ?Besides, from what I hear about him, he don?t need no whores to give him any??
He wasn?t given the chance to finish his ranting, cut off by the force of Heero?s fist. The drunkard was propelled backward and off his feet, unconscious before he hit the ground.
Relena stared at the comatose man, lips parted slightly in shock. He controlled his violence with grace, reigned it in, then released it with frightening precision. She could understand why many called him the Perfect Soldier.
Heero turned away from the fallen man, advanced on her. His movement jolted her out of her stupor. She countered his steps with a wary retreat.
?Good, witch. You aren?t as witless as I was becoming to think you were,? he observed softly. ?Where are you intending on going, slave? I haven?t granted you permission to leave my home.? His tone was low and flat, divulging none of his lethal emotions. She was poised to run. Good. ?Do not even think to run from me. I will only hunt you down again.?
Her foot paused in mid-step. ?You do not understand.?
?I understand perfectly.? Heero glanced at the man on the ground, ?Tell me, who is he??
She frowned. ?I don?t know this man.?
?There is no need to pretend any longer. I must admit, though, that you had me completely fooled. Your acting skills are to be commended,? he drawled now. The sarcasm helped. ?Of course, your other?skills were most admirable, as well.?
She jerked, as if he?d physically struck her. Pink tinted her cheeks. Her lips were pressed tightly as if to hold back words.
?Give me the bag,? he ordered.
?Why??
She seemed genuinely bewildered. Why didn?t she understand that she could strip away her fa?ade? ?You have broken our agreement and stolen from me.? His expression hardened. ?I want my possessions back.?
Emotions chased over her face, all indistinguishable. She looked away. ?They aren?t in the bag.?
His eyes narrowed. ?Then where are they??
?Your belongings are? elsewhere,? she began. ?I had to stash them somewhere. I couldn?t very well carry them in the open.?
It was his turn to frown. She was lying. He had followed her almost immediately after she left. He would have seen if she had stopped. ?Where did you stash them??
?In?in a mill. It isn?t too far away. I can retrieve it for you and?ah!?
He?d stalked over to her in one heartbeat, grabbed her by the arm. ?You are lying to me!? He wretched the bag from her grasp. There was nothing but dingy clothing in it. ?Tell me the truth. Now.?
?You shouldn?t have followed me!? She struggled against him, trying to free herself with no avail. ?You must let me go. For your own safety.?
?Are you threatening me?? He sounded highly amused.
?No!? she burst out, shoving at the immobile wall of his chest. ?I?m trying to warn you.?
He tried to cease her struggles, held her chin between his fingers. ?What do you mean?? There was real fear in her eyes. It was fear for him. He cursed. ?Why the hell did you run??
Relena?s mouth settled into a stern line. ?I can not stay with you. My cousin is, without a shadow of a doubt, tracking me as we speak. He wants me dead, Heero. I will not allow him to hurt you in order to get to me.?
?He won?t.?
Piqued by his supercilious tone, she said, ?He may not have your infamous reputation, but Paul is ruthless. His influence is immeasurable and he will use every resource at his disposal to get to me,? her voice broke,? and those I love.?
Love. A pleasant sensation swept over him. His hold on her gentled. ?I don?t need protecting, angel.?
?Perhaps not.? She stepped away from him. ?But I will not be responsible for your death.?
?You won?t,? he said simply. He looked over head. ?He is gone.?
?Who?? She turned to see that the man who had before been on the ground was gone. The pit of her stomach fell. ?He could have been a spy.?
?Come with me.? He held out his hand for her. An offer, not a command.
Her gaze was dolorous, torn. ?I can?t.?
?Trust me.? His tone was entreating, irresistible.
The temptation was there. She couldn?t resist him. Still, the danger was inescapable. ?I do trust you,? she replied honestly. ?But if I go with you, there will be conditions.?
Heero scowled. ?Conditions?? He said the word distastefully.
?Yes.?
Heero listened as she proceeded to innumerate her conditions, his scowl growing steadily fierce.

the plot is thickening....finally!....keep it up....this proves to be way more interesting than I first thought it would be.......it stands well on its own even without the added "lemon scenes"...but what the heck?....who am I kidding?...bring it on!...more lemon on the way!...good job!

True, but it will be fun to see said conditions imposed anyway.teardropdangel wrote:*snickers*Lady Casper wrote:...hehe something tells me Heero isnt going to like those conditions.
If he doesn't like them he can always bring Relena senseless with sexual tourture until she alters her conditions to Heero's likeing. Of course knowing how those two are in this fic that might take a while.
