Will it be Forever?

Sakura opened her somnolent eyes and slowly focused them. Her body was under blankets of warmth, paralyzed of laziness. It was a foggy day, the room of pink, stumbled with an opaque of gray. The commodious room was held tacked of neatness. The twin bed laid by the east window, and by it was a dummy wearing the battle outfit of the young ninja. Her melted green eyes stared at the white ceiling, her right arm folded over, having the wrist touch her large forehead. She grumbled something and forced the lackadaisical pair of legs to move: First, the left supporting her position to get up, and then the right, both touching the soft carpet. Her palms faced inverted, one reaching up, touching her mass of moppy light, short, pink hair. Then in a sluggish matter, she walked to her bathroom to do regular hygiene.

After taking a long, steamy hot shower, she was rejuvenated of unrestless grumpiness. Fully dressed, she wore her usual battle clothes: A maroon dress outfit, with light khaki green pettlepushers, and a brown vest for the essential compartments to keep weapons. And you mustn?t forget the headband, though she didn't wear it on her head any more; its blue fabric tied around her neck. She stared at the fogged up bathroom mirror, placing her hand on it, wiping it off in a circular motion, clockwise. Satisfied with the conclusion, she grabbed her backpack, and adventured outside to her destination.

OOO

Sakura opened the door slowly that carried a sign of great significance. The setting was just a desk, with two common chairs, and the backside wall were just windows, showing view of the village.

"Good morning, Sakura. I hope you had a good night's rest." Tsunade greeted her warmly, wearing a dark brown kimono, printed with white flowers.

"Good morning, Tsunade-Sama," Sakura said back adverting her eyes to the floor, hoping her latest mission wasn?t going to be cruel like her last one.

Tsunade smiled at her pupil that she taught for four years. Truly, Sakura grew quite intelligent with the medical league. It was almost like yesterday when she entered the office, asking Tsunade if she could be her student. But her sensei Kaka-Sensei and the Hokage had already plan for this a long time. Sakura had the potential. Sure she didn?t have combat skills, but she other great talents also. She had the perfection of precise Chakra control, the wisdom to put her talents to practical use, (unless you don?t call screaming and balling useful) perseverance, intelligence, and.... patience? And also, the last ingredient that helped her most was her most important person.

?So... what?s the mission?? Sakura asked gloomily while she was fidgeted with her bangs. Tsunade sat at her desk and beckoned Sakura to sit down too. The ventilation was somehow cold at this moment. Seriousness lingered in the eyes of the Hokage, hoping that her young successor could complete the task. She stared at moment at Sakura, tapping her finger abruptly on the table full of paper work.

?Haruno Sakura, this is day one of your mission.? Sakura groaned, for it was going to be another expedition for a medical plant. ?You must come within three months and bring me certain items. Number one...Hemp... or actually...? Sakura slammed her hands on the desk, making it vibrate. Tsunade was surprised at the reaction, her eyes widened, mentally demanding what was wrong?

?Hokage sama you want me to get you clothing fabric!? Sakura shrieked, angered that she got out of bed for nothing.

?Sakura, how many times have I told you not to assume something before a person is done speaking. You?ll get in a mess of things someday, if you continue the habit. Your mind is so inconceivable sometimes to get that straight in your head.? She paused and cachinnated a bit.

?What?s so funny?? ?First, she?s scolding at me, now she?s laughing at me. I swear, I?ll never get her,? thought Sakura, slumping back down her chair.

Clearing her throat, Tsunade continued, ?Now before I was rudely interrupted, I was trying to explain that Hemp can fall into two categories. One, it can be a helpful use in society for rope, clothing, ect. Or it can fall as drugs. Anyway I already obtain it, I just need several cannabis plants to go along with it.?

Sakura was stoned cold. ?You mean you want me to venture out to get you drugs!? She remembered reading it

?I also need you to get me herbs, fabrics, and...?

?Cut the errands! What do you need it for??

?I need it to experiment on it. I?ve heard rumors that traveled from the other countries that it contains a healing dose. But it?s addictive to its user. Possibly, I could disable that affect. This could be wonder to the medical world. Do you see why I need it?? Tsunade rested her chin her folded hands, waiting for the pink haired Chunnin to respond.

?...Yes, but Cannabis is hard to find and likely can only be found on the other side of this continent. My rank doesn?t concur with this mission.? Sakura was now scared. This was her biggest mission yet. If she doesn?t take great precaution, her life would perish.

?Now Sakura, you?re skills match up with a Jounin ranked. You just don?t believe in yourself enough to take the test. And my precious student, you know a ninja can?t go on a mission alone if high difficulty. Even if you?re the highest rank...?

?Someone is accompanying me?? Sakura grew less intense at that point.

?Yes.? Tsunade pressed a white button under the panel of the desk. The golden knob was twisted and made a slight jiggled sound. Sakura turned her body at the direction of it. The door was removed from its groove and slowly opened. It slid on the carpet. Sakura looked still, as the face was quickly shown, like pulling a sheet from a bed revealing certain surprises. It was he. He stood taller and wore a darker version of his old attire. The gourd rested on his back. His red hair was kept cool in a spiky manner.

?Your partner, Haruno Sakura, is Gaara of the sand.? He was the perfect one for the job.

?Hai, Tsunade-Sama.? Sakura slid off her chair and bowed to Tsunade and Gaara rather awkwardly.

Gaara was her partner. She didn?t mind at first, though he almost did kill her. Years ago, Gaara was exiled from his own village for some reason, and somehow ended up to Konoha. Since he popped out of nowhere, saving other people?s lives, he was accepted as a ninja of the village. Sakura went on couple of missions with him before with other ninjas and he was actually all right. Sure she was nervous at first with him, but he somehow controlled his thirst for blood. But can he control it with one person for three months?

?Now I have a list for the other items, but remember the number one thing. Also, remember to take your passports. We had trouble last time when our ninjas went on a mission to a foreign region of this continent. They didn?t bring their papers, and the village didn?t take that very lightly. Lets say, their heads were saved.? Tsunade held her hand out, containing the white scroll, trimmed with dark red. Sakura grabbed the scroll and hid it way in her vest. The story kind of made her sick. ?You have three months. Dismissed.? Tsunade turned her chair to the other direction, facing a clear view of the village.

Sakura bowed goodbye and started walking out. Gaara still stood by the door opening staring at his new teammate. She stopped and spoke to him... ?Hehe..some mission eh?? A few nervous giggles came out. Gaara was confused at this happiness, though he showed no expression of it. He just walked out and Sakura followed.

OOO

2 days later.

They were walking through a greenery milieu. No conversation was held. It would give away their cover to so-called predators. Practically nothing was spoken since they left. The two just walked on and on, resting at their very weak points. Rich vegetation surrounded them, the raw dirt clenched in their toenails, tainting it with black. Jungle cries were heard, the light illuminating gleams of sunlight though spots where tree limbs were not blocking it, shining spots that trickled on their faces. Gaara walked stiff, ignoring the sounds, taking only interest in sudden differences.

They finally walked out of the thick forest, revealing the sky was clear blue. Gaara then stopped, and behind so did Sakura. Twelve inches from which they stand, below was a rushing transparent river flowing, striking against the jagged rocks, forcing it to go around it. Pebbles gleamed as if the friction of the water polished them. Above was a long wooden bridge. It wasn?t very supportive. The wooden foundation was rotted, the flesh of it skin was eaten away by termites, spaced away from each other a few inches, viewing the river. The railings were jagged with splinters. By the left wooden post that helped bolt the bridge, stood a small, skinny old man with a long white beard. He supported himself by leaning on a wooden cane, with bad posture. He wore an old gray shirt, soiled lightly with dirt near his chest. His sleeves were torn off, bearing his wrinkled skin with green veins. His pants were black, ripped slightly, worn loosely. He stared at both of them with tiny bead eyes.

Gaara and Sakura continued walking on to cross the bridge, taking precaution of the old man. They walked slowly, but the speed grew to pass him, without any eye contact. Gaara was about to place his foot on the first wooden plank, but stopped, his jaded pupil moved sideways watching his disturbance. The old man moves his left arm, clanging his cane, long enough to block the entranceway.

?You have to pay to cross my bridge,? he said hoarsely, staring straight out, wheezing his breath.

?But we have to cross to get to the other side, and we?re ninjas, so we have an obligation to cross,? Sakura told him, pointing to her neck that wore the forehead protector.

He stared as if he never heard the word ?ninja? before. But still serious of the same subject he spoke again, ?I don?t care if you?re a ninja or anything else. No one is crossing my bridge without giving me some money.? It was amazing that his arm was still raised for a long period, when it looked so frail and weak.

Gaara?s eyebrow moved slightly moved down. He was getting easily annoyed of this pest. He raised his palm in a supine like matter, ready to move in command.

?Gaara!? Sakura yelled, her face look daunted with fear, her elbows close to her abdominal area, shaking a bit. His temperament was to kill anyone that got in his way of his goal. Hesitating a bit, he brought his arm down to his sides. Though he was to protect Sakura, he had to obey her. Those were strict orders from the Hokage.

?Please sir, how much do you want?? Sakura asked, so they could quickly get done with the mission.

?1,000,000 yen.? (Authors note: I think in U.S dollars, that?s 100,000 dollars.) He rose his right hand completely straight out, waiting for it to be given.

It was such a large amount. Sakura thought it would only be 800 yen (probably 20 bucks)

?Sir, we don?t have that kind of money.? Her face was in astonishment, what would a little man do with that much money any way? Moving closer, she placed 800 yen on his palm, barely touching hi rough, cold skin. Her hand moved away quickly startled on how it felt. ?We can only give you that much. Please let us pass.?

He closed his hand and placed it his pocket, his dark bead eyes had the reflection of Sakura?s figure. He then raised his hand out again.

?100,000,000 yen?

?What! I just gave you 800 yen!?

?No you didn?t...100,000,000 yen.? Why he was a filthy cheater! Both arms still kept at position.

?I did pay you 800 yen. You placed it in your pocket...we don?t have 100,000,00 yen!? Sakura tried to keep her anger to a minimum. She was starting to get pissed off at the little shit. ?He?s mocking me!? she thought.

?Not my problem...no pay...no cross...no other side.?

?Baka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

?Sakura, stop trying to protect him. He needs to die...? Gaara was not going to put up this any more.

?Ne..Ne...Stop Gaara... Let?s just leap across.?

?I would not do that. My bird will not let you cross without pay.? The old man?s sung a tune.

?La...Da... Laaaaa Daaaa...? Then out of the clear blue sky, a capture of bright light flew down.

?Caw...caw.? Sakura backed away a bit; the flying object was flying towards them. It swooped down, and landed like a speeding bullet on his bony shoulder. It was a crow. It was pitch black, with feathers that were cut spiked, and the eye?s had a piercing yellow flame.

?My bird will peck your eyes out. No one can beat my best crow. He?ll peck your eyes out...he will...he will..? The crow moved wildly on his shoulder. It took target of Gaara. ?Caw, Caw.? It stared intensively at him.

?There, there. You can have your fun,? the old man told his flying friend, taking his paying hand to pat the head of the crow.

?Caw, Caw.? It still squawked at Gaara. The bird wanted fun. It had a thirst for blood also. It needed its fun. The crow-started to take off, rubbing its feet against the cloth, taking aim at Gaara?s face.

But before it even started to fly off, Gaara raised his hand up again. The sand gathered to his hand, with complete attraction. Muffled cries came out from the crow. It knew now it made a mistake. Sand gathered around the fowl, tightly packing, only now showing the face of the bird. Gaara raised his hand higher, the lump of sand rose also. It let out a few weak caws. Fear was in its the low candle lit eyes. The old man broke out of position, staring up, wanting to know what was happening.

?What are ya doing with my bird?! Let him down! Let him down! He can stay in the sky without your help!? Sweat came out.

?Gaara, on a bird! Please don?t do this!? Sakura yelled, remembering that this very technique was conducted on Lee, years ago in the Chuunin Exam.

Cruelly Gaara said, ?No.? He moved his hand quickly to a series of hand positions. ?Subaku kyuu!?

The flesh of the fowl deteriorated quickly after one heart beat. The blood dripped a trivial sprinkle, landing on the old man?s terrified face. His eye widen with shock, feeling freshly warm blood. He screamed... and his hands shoveled into his shirt pocket. He let loose of the cash that was given to him and dropped it to the ground. The blood started to dry on white beard.

?Take you devils money! Take it! Just leave me be!?

OOOO

So lazy to finish! I?m sorry for this cliff hanger! I?m so tired! I use too much commas!!!!!!! Stupid me!!!!!! Terrible, terrible grammar. I'm still looking for my beta reader, its very hard to find one! Well, if you don't like the story, whatever. This is my first attempt on an action story. Review to tell me what u think, besides my bad grammar....I'm making the next chapter bloodier!

Ooh, a GaaSaku fic! I'm not very familiar with this pairing but this fic sounds very interesting so far. Though Gaara is a bit on the scary side...

...

But then again, when isn't he scary?

Oh, and the conversion rate is a bit off. 1000 yen is equivalent to around $10 US dollar. Though it's no biggie.

Anyway, great start! Hope to read more soon!

Oh yes, forgot to give you a cookie for joining our forum! *hands you a chocolate chip cookie* WELCOME!!!
