Now, if I remember correctly, they elude to the fact that there is a time difference between Earth and Gaea in the series. As in time goes by slower on Gaea. Am I just bonkers? And if I'm not, anybody happen to know around what the difference is? (Need to know for a fic.)

No, I think you're correct - either time goes slower on Gaea or quicker on Earth, it would at least explain that odd meeting between Hitomi's grandmother and Allen's father. Also, when Hitomi returned for that brief time during the latter half of the series.

Actually, the grandmother meeting allen's father is the reverse. Time was travelling quicker on gaia and slower on earth, that is how she was able to meet him on the same day on earth but months later on gaia. however, it is mainly slower on gaia and quicker on earth by the time hitomi came.
But the theory is that, when hitomi went back to earth, she was wishing she never came to gaia in the first place, that is why she went back on the same day she came to gaia, as if nothing happen. Yet we know through the series that time did travel before that as hitomi's mum showed Amano and Yukari a pic of hitmoi's grandmother when hitomi went missing.
Err... i get the feeling i migh have just confused
you more *cries*
Just go with the idea that when hitomi's wishes to go back to a certain time and place, she can. i hope i helped... some how.

Well, that all made sense to me.
I was going to say that time is relitive between the two worlds. Meaning it depends on who is involved with traveling from one place to the other, and possibly their circumstances.
Like you said about Hitomi, she wished herself to a time before she left.
So for a fan fic, I would say it is reasonable to have time flow how ever you want it to. Remember what Hitomi's Grandma said about the power of wishes.
