This Is Not An Exit (poem)

Post by Perfect Soldier »

This poem was written on a very serious note. I had gotten a call from a friend who was going to commit suicide. Her voice was barely over a whisper on the phone and I could hear her sobbing softly in the seclusion of her room. She ended up not going through with it but is still considering it. This goes out to her as a reminder of all the pain we as friends must endure. You never remember that you're not the only one being hurt.

This Is Not An Exit

As you lie there dying, you?re smiling

The shimmering metal of the knife,
That had taken your life
Eyes clear as the sky?
So empty and blue

You?re no longer you

A scream that came out as a whisper
We were all too ignorant to hear
Now you?re lying six-feet-under

Suffocate your voice
You made the choice

Cut open the perfect wound
Never a day we don?t think of you
Selfish desire and needless pain
We were abandoned

A haunting voice inside my head
It?s my fault
I should be dead

Just your ghost lingering about
Beckoning me to follow
Waiting for me in the grave

You should have stayed
Left us all, and we won?t forget

Where went all your happiness?

Darkness and seclusion is forever yours
Locked behind the door of your emotions
A threshold I dare not open

You?ll have to wait a little longer
I still feel life in this tortured soul
Unlike you, I can?t let go

Goodbye my friend?
Your end was only the beginning

Holly, you'll never know how much I love you...

I'm not afraid of tomorrow,
i'm only scared of myself,
feels like my insides are on fire
and i'm looking through
the eyes of someone else

That was really a well-written poem, thought-provoking and very honest. You're so right about how when people are in that situation, they sometimes forget about how their actions will affect those around them. I hope this poem can mean something for your friend. Great job.

very good. It showed the other side. you think you are suffering, but you can't forget the people who care for you... When I was in my darkest times, my family was the only thing that tied me to this earth...

Perfect timing to read this.

People don't willingly commit the act. As soon as they jump from the edge, something happens, a sane moment in there life. People who do commit it deside at the last moment, they don't want to die just yet. I've been on the line to many times to count, and everytime, something happens. A voice, a memory, and you just want to fade into it.

I don't think you would understand what I just said. But Yea. It was worth the breath to live in pain.

I would say that you're right when you say that. People do regret it afterwards but there are times when you don't want to remember and you make yourself forget. Holly knew that all too well. It wasn't my choice to make for her and anything I was going to say or do was going to stop her. If she wanted to do it, she would. Isn't it true to say that we face regret for most decisions we make in this life... and yet, we keep making them anyway despite consequences.

I wasn't trying to be upset with her and tell her she was a bad person. But as a good and loyal friend to be told I can do nothing just reminds me of how worthless people can be to each other and yet hold so much value. She'd shed a tear if I had died and yet there's nothing I could ever say to stop her.

Sorry if I offended you though.
