She's Not Like the Other Girls

A/N: Yeah I know I started another fic and I haven't even finished my other ones. You guys I thank you for you patience on my wait but lately I haven't had the drive to write, but I figured that since I was sitting in my room sick with a computer right at my finger tips I thought I should try and get some stuff done. So here is my first chapter of She's Not Like the Other Girls. It was inspired by a song of that same name by The Rasmsus. It's not a song fic though. I just love the chorus. It seems to fit personalities and stuff like that. So Enjoy and review? It's good for you Karma if you do.

She's fading away, away from this world.
Drifting like a feather she's not like the other girls.
She lives in the clouds and talks to the birds.
Hopeless little one she's not like the other girls I know.

She's Not like the Other Girls - the Rasmsus

She is not like most of the other women of the ESUN Government. She is alone in her suffering. A pain that is bottled up in her so deep and locked away so tight that she does not know that the pain is there and that it will continue to eat away at her. She brushes her pain off as deterioration because of work. She sees her lack of sleep due to proposals and up keeping the peace. What she does not know is that the pain buried deep within her has caused a manifestation of denial in her bones. A cancer on her soul. Draining her of every drop of life, of every aspect of her being. She sleeps little and hides behind makeup. Somehow, he is aware of her suffering.

A suffering that has also been shared and locked deep within the recesses of the mind. The recesses of the heart that he is dead to the world and dead to her. She is not happy and the torture that he is hiding pain from her only makes the pain that locked so deep with in her, which continues to grow, and never ebbing one moment to give her peace.

The pain that he feels is not like hers. Hers is a matter of peace. A matter which stems deeper for her promise of safety and peace for him, stemming deeper then her complete adoration for his strength, stemming deeper then her love for him. He has mixed feelings with the same.

Each in denial of each other, it is no wonder why people pity them. They thrive on the soothing of the ache by that temporary balm which we call friendship. Each haunting their friends, each wanting to find the final release that will end the little balls of ache and sorrow that they have carelessly forgotten was there. It would take a miracle to save the two from themselves.

Relena sighed at the sight of her huge oak desk that seemed to be littered with papers asking for membership in the new Universal government. Littered with trade talks, papers to sign and newspapers with up to date knowledge of what was happening in the world. It was a never-ending pile that seemed to get worse with holidays and even worse when a day off was to come around. For Relena it was part of the job and part of the problem for her never-ending health problems that seemed to grow in the past few weeks.

A bruised hip from a fall down the stairs and a head cold were hard on her already frail system. She was under strict orders from her physician not to do anything taxing on her system. She had tried to follow doctor's orders but was in a fine mess at work. She was behind after an apparent kidnapping attempt and the worlds never ending problems seemed to complete a never-ending shift to her desk when she tried to take off a few days.

She huffed softly and picked at a long document concerning trade disputes between satellite resource stations and the poorer colonies in the L3 Cluster. The proposal was to enable factories of the poor colonies to receive the goods need at a proper price. It seemed that the resource satellites owners were not heading to the demands for a fair product and were now price gouging the people of the L3 Colonies.

It did not help that Winner Industry had been implicated in this scandal as well as a few other old Romerfeller families that had named her best friend Dorothy Catalonia in the scandal. She remembered receiving the vidphone call from both parties at the same time, demanding that they were not to blame. However, because they were the heads of these foundations they were subject to the scrutiny of the public and the scapegoat for those companies that were linked to them.

It had only given the throbbing sinus headache another chance to invade her senses and almost cripple her with the pain and the idea of breathing. Luckily, Sally had popped in with painkillers to ease the anguish that the tiny pest of a head cold actually turned out to be. Sally had also reminded her that she was due for a physical any day soon. Relena had only nodded and then waved off her bodyguard, doctor, and friend, returning to the mass of papers on her desk.
And there she had been since six that morning. It was only a catch up day but there had been one meeting scheduled for that day. A meeting with the head of her security, a man she thought she would never see again after the Mariemaia Coupe de Tete. She had never expected him to come back after he had left the hospital. She knew he was around but never where. It did not surprise her that he was now a Preventer and protecting her as he had promised on Libra and so he had for three long years. She sighed and continued to read the papers, adjusting the glasses that she was now forced to wear to read.

It was a sharp knock on her door that drew her from her thoughts. Looking at the clock and then down at the open day planed next to another pile of papers, she noted that he was on time, as usual.

"Come in," she said with a soft huff but never once glanced from the page to the newcomer.

"Une sent me with these," he said in a monotone voice.

Casting a fleeting look slightly to the document he held in his hand, Relena just sighed and continued to stare at the papers in her hands.

"More security details for the upcoming tour of the L3 Colonies?" she said nonchalantly still reading her papers.

"Affirmative," Heero said with slight cringe.
Relena noticed the cringe, as she was able to notice everything about that man.

"What the problem with the document?" she said still not diverting her eyes from her article.

She heard a little sigh escape his lips. It was the type of sigh he let out when he was not satisfied with anything that was not proposed by him for him.

She let go of the paper and looked at him. He was standing behind one of the wing back chairs in her office. A trapping Duo and Une combined had talked her into putting there. His Preventer's uniform was crisp clean and smelled faintly of laundry detergent. His unruly brown hair was somewhat tamed today and his blue eyes shone with the coldness Relena had always seen for the last three years. He held the rota for the trip in his hand and had the other arm held straight at his side.

"Heero?" she questioned him again.

"I am concerned with the security for the ball that is to be held on the night of July 25th, A.C. 201," he stated.

"I will have an approved escort that night and I know Sally and Wufei will be on my detail with you that night. Relax it will be nothing. You, Sally, and Wufei will do a wonderful job." she said nonchalantly and returned to her papers.

Heero just continued to stare at her as if she was a little fish in a fishbowl just swimming around doing nothing but swimming.

"Or is the green eyed monster out to get my escort," she said with a hint of humour over her notes.

"Not Jealousy, but the hardware you will be wearing that night," he said in a flat and even tone.
Relena glanced over her notes again to notice the white papers he held in her hand were now sailing through the air on to her desk, landing perfectly at the bottom of the papers she read. Tossing away the papers not caring if they fell on the mess that was her desk, she looked at the picture of the custom designed piece of jewellery that she had received from a famous design house. It was a true masterpiece, dating all the way back to the twentieth century.

"Yes I know but I will take the risk in wearing such an old piece of jewellery," she said furrowing her eyebrows and throwing the paper back in his direction.

Heero's face stayed cool and unmoving as he watched her throw the paper back at him. The paper missed the perfect solider more then enough to have a person laughing at the poor throwing (Much that Duo did when she got angry with him and used her heels as weapons against the braided American). Heero stood unmoving, not so much as cracking a smile at her lack of skill. She turned back to her notes and awaited further details from her bodyguard. There was silence for more then a minute. Relena frustrated that he was not talking looked back over her notes at him.

Still he stood behind the leather chairs with a cold look. His steely gaze though had wandered to the rota now lying only two inches from her desk. She heaved a sigh of agitation and returned to her notes at hand.

"I'm also concerned with you escort for to nights dinner at the Wellesley House," he finally blurted out the words.

Relena just arched her eyebrows and nodded her head to show that she was listing.

"I think that picking up someone off the street last minute is a security risk and a more appropriate choice would to go with out an escort as was originally planed," he said in a low almost dark voice.

"I told Mrs. Wellesley that I would bring a friend when I RSVP two months ago," she said still not caring what Heero had to say.

"It's a security risk," he repeated.

"I don't care," she repeated

"Relena?" he said stepping forward.

"I don't care Preventer Yuy, I am taking my date to the Wellesley dinner as was noted in the changes," she said sternly and then stood up.

"I suggest that you now leave," she said angrily.

Heero stood his ground as he looked over the normally calm girl. She was trying to hold off the anger but her eyes flashed with full-blown rage and power.

"Leave now," she repeated.

Heero saluted her and then turned on his heels and left Relena to her work. He knew better then to upset the Vice Foreign Minister when she was angry. It was like dealing with her brother but only ten times worse. She was not one to be taken lightly when she was angered. Leaving was always the best defence.

Relena now distracted looked at the clock and noted that she was now due at home to get ready for the dinner. Anger at her lead guard still fresh in her mind, she discarded every thing on her desk and headed out to her assistants desk where she bid her to call for the car and headed outside to wait.

~*~

Relena looked around at the people gathered in the opulent dinning/ballroom that was in the Wellesley house. One of the oldest families save her own left in the Sank Kingdom, the Wellesley held a dinner every year to raise funds for the poorer colonies that were not as fortunate as the people of earth were.

Relena has attended the event ever since the war had ended and was in fact one of the foundations largest contributors to date. She was this year's guest of honour and was to be honoured with a plaque for her efforts. However, right now she only wished for a quilt, face tissue, more painkillers, and a good movie on television to sooth the pain and the loopy effect of the painkillers.

But protocol dictated that she was not to let herself wallow in her sickness, for a Vice Foreign Minster was never to get sick, and so she sat a the head table looking out on to the other elite of the Sank kingdom as well as visiting dignitaries and other government officials, which included the Minister of Health, Quinn Haineau, her date for the evenings festivities.

She was quite aware that her bodyguard for the evening was close by, eyeing her in a cold contempt that seemed to reek with anger. She had chosen to show that anger back to Heero forcing him to sit up front with the driver as she and Quinn had taken the back. She had also ignored him most of the night and she knew it would take its toll but she did not care at all.

"You ok?" Quinn asked in his soft usual voice.

"Did I space out?" Relena found herself asking Quinn quickly and then scratched the end of her nose.

Quinn nodded and then looked at her with a smile. She found it almost comforting and smiled back. Quinn was truly the only man who would understand her. They had met in her second year of her residency as the Vice Foreign Minster. He was a nice man, handsome and dignified but sadly was gay and taken. He was however a good friend who did not really mind taking her to the occasional function when protocol dictated (when the hostess giving the party did not want his lover in her house because she was a staunch supporter of a man and a woman union).

She looked from Quinn to her dinner plate and then out to the crowd again. 'Silly twits' she thought to herself as she watched them laugh and mingle in their dance that only they could perform. She watched as they talked about 'trivial' things. It was conversation she wished she never wanted to be a part of.

"And now to honour this year's recipient of this plaque is none other then our own Princess of Sank, and our current Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miss Relena Darlian," it was the squeaky voice of Mrs. Wellesley's which was made even more squeaky by the sound system.

Relena stood up from her chair and straightened the coat of the polite yet elegant business suit she wore. She took to the podium and began the acceptance speech that a team of ESUN employed writers had written for her for the occasion. She was into the third paragraph of the speech when a glint from the back of the room caught her off guard. She instantly thought is was only just a piece of some woman's way ward jewellery that was catching the spotlight trained on her. She ignored it but it kept irritating that she began to stumble on her words. She noted that the flashes were in a set pattern. The long and short glints of light seemed reminiscent of Morris Code. She shook her head, ignored the glinting light, and continued her acceptance speech.

She had reached the conclusion of her speech when she saw Heero appear from the shadows walking fast towards her. He seemed intent, the normally deep coloured eyes were now flashing to black. He seemed slightly annoyed; she could tell buy the grimace that stayed on his lips. They anger that had started only that afternoon only continued to well up with in her. Finishing, Relena gathered up her little cue cards and delicately stuffed them into her pocket of the business suit. She was about to turn when a large explosion seemed to rock the house and ball room of the house.

What she did not expect was the sudden flashes of light that seemed to accompany the tremors. It was blinding and almost painful as they kept coming nearer to her position on the ground behind the podium. Shifting, she tried to stifled a scream but things went black very quickly.

Wow, it's been a while since I've taken the time out to read a new GW ficcy. What can I say? I've been really wrapped up with Inuyasha reading lately ^_^

But this, . . . This was great ^_^ I'm soooo glad that I took the time to read it. I love your direction so far. Very belivable, and interesting. I do hope that your planning on continuting this, because it would be a shame if you didn't.

I understand that you have a number of other projects on your hands before you will likly get a chance to add more to this new ficcy of yours, but that's compleatly cool ^_^ I just want you to know that any update of this in the future will be great, I'm good with waiting, as long as eventually I find more.

Good luck with this and everything else,

Till next time,

~Eden
