Finding Out The Hard Way (8)

Relena was going over her notes for the last time before she left for her early morning meeting. She grabbed her coffee and took a sip. Trowa walked in the room in silence.

"Oh Trowa good morning. What can I do for you?"

"Morning. What time is your meeting?"

"Um..in about an hour, why?"

"I think you better come with me." He walked out and Relena followed him.

"Where are we going?"

"We just got some new recruits today and I want you to check out this one guy."

"Why is he horriable as hell?"

"No...he is exactly the opposite."

Relena had a puzzled look on her face but just followed Trowa to the floor where the new recruits trained. They walked threw the door and found the recruits standing in a straight line in silence as Wufei yelled at them so they went to take a seat on the bench's to watch.

"You all are a bunch of ONNA'S!!!! You call yourselves men?! My dead grandfather looks better then all of you!" Wufei closed his eyes and gave a little prayer.

"Now I want to see you all hold your guns right and hit the god damn target this time!" Wufei walked down to the end and pulled out someone. Relena was shocked to find out that it was Jacob.

"You! I want you to go first. If you fail then you will have cleaning duty for the whole month!"

"Sir."

Just then Heero came in Quatra and Duo. Heero sat nexted to Trowa.

"So what was it that you wanted us to all come down here in a hurry?" asked Duo as if he was irritated.

"Shh..just watch." Trowa hissed.

There was silence as Jacob lifted his gun and stared at the target. 5 seconds later there was a bang. Everyone shifted to see if he hit the target and to everybody's surprise, he got it right on the spot.

Duo gave a gasp. "Oh my god! He hit the target. Phhh..so what? We all can do that." He said starcasticlly.

Jacob aimed his gun to Duo and shot the pin on his hat right off. Duo fainted.

"Wow, he is standing all the way across the room and he managed to get a direct hit..well at least I hope that was where he was trying to aim." said Quatra.

Even Heero was impressed but he showed no emotion on his face but Relena could sense it. She laughed. So this was the guy who she was going out with.

"This is who I wanted you to see." said Trowa.

Wufei glared at Jacob when he returned to his line.

"Not bad..but your still an Onna!"

Jacob just smirked but Wufei wasn't able to catch it. Wufei dissmissed the recurits and Jacob came running up to the stands. He ran to where Duo was and helped him up.

"Dude! You almost killed me! You....hey I know you..your the one going out with Lena right?"

"Mr. Maxwell! That was your pin that I shot off? Oh i'm so sorry." he said as he helped Duo up.

"Nah don't mention it. I get it all the time." Duo glared at Heero and Heero glared at Jacob.

Jacob looked at Relena and he smiled.

"Relena, what a surprise. I didn't know you were watching me. Now I feel embaressed."

"Oh no don't be. You were really good. Why did you sign up for this?"

"I wanted more adventure in my life besides, I'll be closer to you." he gave his sexy smile and Relena blushed and Heero got in the way.

"Oh i'm sorry, you must be...?"

"Heero Yuy pleasure."

Jacob put his hand out. "Jacob McGuire."

Heero didn't shake his hand so he put his hand back down.

"You are really good for a recruit." said Quatra. "I'm Quatra Rebarba Winner."

"Nice to meet you Quatra...can I call you Quatra?"

Quatra nodded.

"Trowa Barton." This time Trowa put his hand out and Jacob gladly accepted.

"Nice to meet you Trowa."

"With enought practice then you could probably work at the same office as us!" said Duo with a hugh grin. "Hey your the same age as us so it is posible!"

"I'll try my best then." said Jacob. He turned to Relena. "Hey do you want to go have some coffee or something after your done with your meeting?"

"Sure I'd.."

"She can't." said Heero.

Relena glared at Heero and he glared back.

"You have work to do."

"Hey Heero, let her decide what she wants to do." said Duo but shut up after Heero gave him a death glare.

"No if you don't have time then maybe some other time." said Jacob.

A secertary came running through the door. "Miss Relena! Bad news. The meeting has been pushed up to start in 5 min.!"

Relena ran down the bench's. "Sorry Jacob but I will see you tomorrow?"

"Don't worry I didn't forget!" he said as he waved.

She smiled and left. The other's started heading for the doors too.

"See you around soon Jacob." said Quatra.

"Nice meeting you." said Trowa.

Jacob nodded to them all and was about to leave too but was stopped by Heero.

"You stay away from her."

Jacob had a confused look on his face.

"She doesn't deserve someone like you."

"Don't you think that is her choice? I mean your not going out with her right or are you just jealous?"

Heero pushed him against the wall and glared at him.

"I just watch out for her, she doesn't need to be going around with trash like you. Remember, your just a recruit."

"Then what are you? Am I really that different from you?"

Heero pulled away and walked backwards. He glared at Jacob one last time and left.

Duo said good bye and followed Heero. Jacob rubbed his neck where Heero had pushed him.


Heero was walking towards the meeting thinking. Jacob's words kept going over in his head.


'Then what are you? Am I really that differnet from you?'
Jacob did remind him a lot about himself. He showed a lot of potential.

'What am I feeling? Why am I thinking so much about what Relena does? Why do I even care?' he thought.

He walked into the meeting as quietly as he could. Relena was in the middle of a speech at the end of the table. Heero took his spot in the corner of the room and watched her.

When she ended her speech, she looked over and saw Heero and smiled.

He didn't know what came over him but he smiled too. Relena's eyes opened a little but went back to normal when one of the delegates asked her a question.

'What the hell is wrong with me? Why did I smile? Why does she make me feel this way? Why?'

He watched her as she talked again. Her beautiful face and her the way she looked at everyone, not with a i-am-better-then-you kind of face but as she looked at them all as if they were her equal. She was always like that. She never said that she was better then anyone. Even when he told her how great she was on Libra, she still doubted it but said it was him who was amazing. He loved that.

Just then something flashed across his mind

'Do I.....love her?'
