Chapter 15

The door creeks slowly, as if somehow trying to alert the dreamer of an intruder. Eyes adjusted to the darkness that swallowed it, sitting frightfully still, hoping for some unseen warmth. Realization decided to take a bite into the flesh of this person, sending his mind reeling with memories of two lives, both lived simultaneously. Eventually, like all things in life, his eyes adjusted to the figure hovering near his bed.

"I see you've come to your senses now, Odin," Reiya said, sitting on the edge of his bed.

On instinct, Heero curled away from her. Reiya had gotten used to him doing that, and only once did she ever get him close enough to taste his lips. When he was in a state of confusion at the hospital earlier. Her one and only chance. The face of that haughty Foreign Vice-Minister was priceless, she chuckled to herself. A grim line replaced her smirk, as she came here to do some business with him.

"Where have you been all this time, Odin?"

Heero didn't speak for a few moments, letting his memories soak up the rest of his brain.

"Colony L2, just as you had instructed me to, Reiya," Heero said quietly.

"What took you so long though? Usually it only takes you two weeks maximum to gather what is requested of you," Reiya said, having fun prodding Heero for questions.

"I was involved in some unfortunate accident, Reiya."

"You have been programmed to heel rather quickly; more so than any other average regular human."

"The weapon used was of a peculiar kind, Reiya. The model I did not know. The program did not know what course to take in healing me, Reiya."

"I see," Reiya said, toying with her locks.

"What were you doing with that Foreign Vice Minister, Odin? People of our kind are not to mingle with scum pacifists like her, and you know it," Reiya accused.

"She was kind enough to take pity into her heart for my sake. I had to pay her back, for she did save my life. She is not a true pacifist either, as you would like to believe," Heero said, blinking.

Silence poured out of Reiya's mouth, it was true; that woman did save her Heero, and she was thankful for that. Reiya stared at Heero one more time before turning around.

"Reiya," Heero called after her, neither a question nor statement.

Reiya smiled and turned around.

"Yes, Odin?"

"Who is Heero Yuy?"

That simple little question struck Reiya dumbfounded on her part. She parted her lips in an attempt to answer his question. Her chest heaved up and down, wondering what the answer should be; if there should be an answer at all. Reiya clenched her fists and tried to calm the rage that swelled in her by this simple question. She turned and faced him.

"Heero Yuy was a nobody when I found him, Odin. He's gone, dead forever. Someone you might have known? Not likely. Heero Yuy was a fool, despite his background," and with that, Reiya left the room.

Heero didn't react to her harsh words. He didn't react hardly to anything at all. Heero stayed inside his room, and for the next hour he came up with a solid plan. Finally rising from his bed, Heero stepped quietly to the door. Security cameras were placed everywhere, but Heero had fixed that problem before he slipped out of his room. In his hands, he clutched tightly to a miniature laptop.

Heero appeared to walk about aimlessly around the house, but was mentally make a note of how well guarded everything was; as if Reiya was trying to keep him from the universe. 'Nothing can hold me now with the knowledge I possess,' Heero thought as he made a right turn. Finding what he was looking for, Heero slipped into the dimly lit room filled with beeping computers and monitors. Silently, Heero closed the door and sat at what he thought the main computer.

Hours passed before Heero sealed and erased any traces he might have left. Somehow, this had left him feeling better; feeling whole. He had contacted Lady Une through a private name, but Lady Une still guessed. And her guesses were always right. Heero informed Lady Une of his current situation, and Lady Une told Heero of Wufei and Sally's finding. The information intrigued Heero deeply; the idea of a new mobile suit secretly thrilled him and displeased him at the same time.

Heero jerked at Lady Une's next words: Would you be the bodyguard of Relena Darlian? Heero sat there a little stunned at her request. Heero lowered his head down, the flickering glow of the computer washing over him time and time again. He counted his breaths as seconds and lifted his head slowly. The intensity of his eyes troubled the reflection as he consented. Lady Une smiled inwardly to herself and told Heero to board a shuttle heading for Earth in no less than a week.

Heero deleted the window, and gently pushed the chair out from beneath him. He stalked to the door and closed it softly behind him. Glancing at his watch, he realized he had less than five minutes to make it to his room before the cameras were functioning again. As silent as the mist, Heero penetrated through unknown halls and rooms to reach his only before Reiya was sited turning the corner in his direction.

Heero sprang for his bed, covering himself with the covers and adjusting his pillow. Deftly, he closed his eyes as he heard the creak of his door open.

"Odin?"

"Yes?" Heero asked, eyes still closed.

"If you need anything, just ask me, okay?" Reiya asked softly.

Just as she was turning around, Heero said:

"I know you have something big planned with Relena Darlian involved. There is no need for putting up airs around me as if things were going on normally outside this compound. I have developed my own theories as to what you want to achieve. Tell me, Reiya, am I right?"

Reiya turned to face him, her lips trembling and heart pounding. She straightened herself up to defy Heero's question.

"Why am I involved in this also? It seems that it isn't fair that I haven't been informed of such a vast part of history that's about to turn on her axis. Tell me, Reiya," Heero asked calmly as Reiya walked to him slowly.

She sat down next to Heero, who had sat up and stared at her once more. Reiya sat proud, straight and tall.

"You are an important part of this mission, Odin, have no doubt of that," Reiya said, "and you shall be clued in on your existing role in this life game. Two times, my family has failed to bring Earth and her occupants under the Barton control. First was the near extinguish of my great uncle Dekim Barton, the second was the death of Mariemaia. The third chance, the last chance, is my turn to shine in spite of all the trials of before. I gladly call it Operation Meteor: Lunar Stardust.

"I'm trying to stick as close as I can to the original Operation Meteor. With a few minor changes of course. I have built five completely new and different suits, which are already sent to Earth. Of course, their construction was courtesy of your "missions" to gather various MS parts. There are four people who know their exact locations. As soon as they get the mobile suit online, then I know that they have reached the suits. With these, I plan to take down the political figures that stand in the domination of Earth. If all else fails, then the silent grave of dust that hangs between the heavens and the sun shall drown within all our dreams. Thus, Operation Meteor: Lunar Stardust."

Heero perked up at this, storing away the information and subtle face changes of Reiya. He quickly ran all the different approaches and possibilities to get to Relena without casting any obvious shadows of his intentions. Heero swung to the side of the bed, his feet touching the floor. Immediately, his right hand reached Reiya's cheek, eyes burning away. Reiya gasped at such a gentle touch from a man with a hard life, but she sighed to her hearts content.

"You know as well as I that there's only one element we can do without. After that element has been eliminated, chaos in the name of Barton will ensue," Heero said testily, hoping that she'd bite into the bait.

"Relena Darlian," Reiya uttered softly.

Without really looking at Heero, she could tell that he nodded his head. She felt the electrifying orbs of Prussian eat away at her. Eyes closed, Reiya said,

"Do me the honor of removing the thorn from the rose, Odin."

Without saying a word, Heero soundlessly got off the bed, brushing past Reiya and out through the door. Before turning around, Heero asked,

"I need some surveillance equipment and some other things before I go to Earth. Could you supply me with what I need?"

Heero already knew the answer, which was why he was walking through the door with a smirk.

The brilliant sun shone down through the windows, but the shades that were put there guarded the room from such beauty. All around the room, people shuffled their feet and rearranged the position of their hands numerous times. The faint clinking sound of glass upon mahogany tinkered lightly in the air. The groans of furniture being pushed to a more comforting limit existed within the ears of all that heard. The soft whoosh of honey blond hair against the withering atmosphere called for attention.

"Therefore, we think that both sides might benefit from the Triag Doctrine. With your approval, of course, Miss Darlian," the Duchy of Avrion.

Relena's eyes escaped from the outside scene and focused temporarily with the level gaze of the older man. She cleared her throat.

"That is an excellent proposition you have presented, Duchy of Avrion, and you, Lord Bermont. Might both of your countries propel themselves into a bright future. Have your assistant leave the documents with my secretary. I'll contact both of you to settle the fine print. With that, the meeting is adjourned," Relena said.

She in turn glanced at everyone and nodded at each of their smile. The group in the room began talking amongst themselves, the sides finally beginning to understand their similarities of want and need. Relena smiled to herself as she closed the door behind her, happy to be out of that stuffy room. Her reflection appeared to her for a fleeting moment.

Relena breathed in and out as she observed her slender shoulders rise up and down. Her rosy cheeks flushed with expectations. The lapels of her white knee-length frock trembled with her unsteadiness. A gentle hand tugged at the high black collar that marked the distinction of a Peacecraft. She loosened the sky blue silk scarf from her neck, hungry for cold air to kiss the sweaty surface. With a final glance at herself, Relena straightened up and walked away from yet another meeting.

Within the building, there lay a refuge for Relena. Only she and her secretary knew about the location. Watching her steps carefully, Relena quietly made her way towards the secluded spot. With nimble feet and almost stealth-like capability, Relena finally saw the French doors. With a happy little sigh, she opened the door quietly, finding it strange that the soft glowing of lights didn't reach her eyes. As her hand shot out to turn the switch on, a blazing light surrounded Relena. In the light, she saw all of her lady friends, delegates, and ambassadors of the sort.

"SURPRISE!!" they all shouted gleefully.

Strung about the room were decorations of engagement. Relena sighed inwardly to herself as she braced herself for the attacking crowd. 'Remind myself to have a long talk with Gale once this is over,' Relena comforted herself.

"My, my, she really is a beautiful woman, don't you think?" a woman with silvery-blue hair asked her unruly brown hair companion in the darkest recesses of the corner.

He brushed a look quickly past Reiya, grunting in response. Reiya sighed and lavishly laughed out loud. Heero acknowledged her with disgust as his eyes trailed Relena. She seemed quite happy with what she had now. He felt Reiya nudge him, pressing the cold metal further into his left hip. Heero simply shook his head and searched the room for the Preventers. As if on cue, Lady Une, Sally, a scowling Wufei, and Quatre came marching out of the kitchen, singing at the top of their lungs God knows what. Relena's smooth face turned a shade of crimson as Heero read her lips, the scene in front of him set in slow motion. Again, Reiya nudged him. And again, he shook his head no. Reiya huffed as she took his hands and stormed elegantly across the room.

The door flew shut, the halls echoing her confused rage. Heero leaned up against the wall, coolly crossing his arms and staring down at the petite woman. She gave him a rueful look and began to pace.

"That would have been the perfect moment given that you weren't so smitten by that Minister," Reiya said.

"It wasn't time," Heero said simply, drawing out another huff from Reiya.

Reiya stopped pacing and stopped in her tracks. She put a finger to her temple, then moved it to her lips. She bit on the finger as her eyes were focused on cloud nine above her. Reiya made a rash and bold move; she grabbed Heero's hands.

"Follow me," she said triumphantly as he stiffened a bit.

Having the choice to go back into the same room as Relena, milling about hacking into security, or seeing what Reiya had in store for him; he chose the third. They walked unnoticed throughout the building. A black limo was waiting for them, the driver already at Reiya's side, helping her into the vast car. Heero followed after her, sitting opposite of Reiya. Throughout the drive, Reiya was disappointed that he didn't ask her any questions regarding their whereabouts.

Heero stared out of the tinted windows, the scene reflecting on his stoic face. He unconsciously crossed his arms as he tore his view away from the country of the Cinq Kingdom. The silence droned on, sounding as one with the engine. Off in the horizon, Heero noted silently to himself the splashing of the waves against the rocks. Heero became very still and quiet, leaning back into the plush leather seats. In the far distance, he heard the waves crash a soothing rhythm.

Reiya stared at Heero, then turned around and told the driver to let them off here. The car came to a smooth stop, now closer to the waves Heero had noticed before. He got out of the car, inhaling the air of short-lived memories. Heero turned around and offered a hand to Reiya, which she gladly accepted. As soon as both of her feet touched the ground, Heero immediately let his hands drop, shoving them down deep into his front pockets.

Reiya cleared her throat and made the motion to follow her. A fine mist began to roll in around them. Heero followed Reiya as she trudged through the wet dunes, her now-bare feet making a soft wispy sound on the sands. As they rounded a dune, a simple wooden dock came into sight. The sound of the waves echoed throughout the still air, gathering behind it humid forces. Gradually, Heero found himself at the edge of the dock, waiting. 'Waiting for what?' he thought.

Reiya just stood there, letting the winds whip at her skirt. Heero scrutinized her sharp features when she closed her eyes. Slowly, Reiya raised her arms to the sky. As if hit by a single bolt of invisible lightening, Reiya's body jerked and she closed her eyes.

"NOW!" Reiya screamed.

Heero felt the tremors of the earth, groaning and heaving to push something mighty, something vile from her womb. Heero stood his ground as the waves turned on him and Reiya. Reiya still had her arms upheld, but her eyes were now open. Fifteen meters away from the dock, facing the sunset, rose a familiar sight that embraced Heero's senses. The fiery rays of the receding sun took an advantage to highlight a helmet, soon following an image of broad, steely shoulders.

With a sound so trembling and earth-shaking, the immense figure made its way towards the shore, towards an unknown enemy amongst them. Heero's eyes never left the mechanical menace, and stared it down as it settled next to Heero. In the heart of the beast, the hatch slowly opened. A man in a standard wetsuit stepped onto the very edge of the opening, jumping out at Reiya's command. He took his helmet off and gave a side-glance towards Heero.

Heero quietly acknowledged him, eyes turning abruptly towards the metal giant. A few words were swapped between Reiya and the man, and she dismissed him.

"Come, Heero, the view is more wonderful inside, I assure you," Reiya said as she walked to the mecha's legs.

She opened a small compartment located at the base of the heel and pushed one of many buttons. The sound of whirring and clinking was all around then when she pushed once more on that same button. From the cockpit of the mecha came slide bars. Heero and Reiya placed their foot in the single metal stirrup and with one tug, were suspended high into the air.

Heero let go as soon as the hatch was above his feet. He landed with a soft thud and stood still, his head moving slowly in a semi-circle to observe the surroundings. Reiya joined him shortly; walking to the chair that stood alone in the center. She sat down in the seat, opening up a compartment on the right arm of the chair. Lights shone in a circle around her, and soon there was no need for lights as the compartment around him showed him an unbelievable view of the ocean.

The metal floor beneath him disappeared and was replaced with the sands. All around him, he could see the landscape. To him, Heero thought they were floating in mid air. He turned his gaze on Reiya now, watching her as she called up programs he never heard before. Reiya got up from her seat and stood next to the chair.

"Sit, Heero, and see how technically advanced this suit is. Not even the famed Gundams can compare to this," Reiya said smugly.

Reiya got out of the chair and led Heero to sit instead. A keyboard and joystick appeared before him, being suspended by what, he couldn't figure out. The screen in front of him, all around him actually, came alive with the familiar beeping and codes he came to familiarize himself with. With his acute memory, he stored the commands in a locked file in his brain. With a zest he thought gone, he exercised the suit to its' near limits. Reiya stopped him after an hour of swinging the saber around, shooting metal liquid substance that Reiya called mercurious at some distant trees, and running, stopping, testing the speed of the suit.

At his insistence, Heero and Reiya descended to the ground. With Reiya's command, the bulky yet agile suit forced its way back into the womb of earth. Heero was thrilled, for a lack of better description, at what took place. He stood there watching the last of the rippling waves, and closed his eyes. Just like those ripples, everyone will feel the sorrow this magnificent suit shall bring. Far off in the distance, he picked up the sound of an engine speeding their way. He allowed a small smile, one that Reiya did not catch.
