Relena woke up startled as she felt cold water lightly sprinkling her body. Her pulse raced as she looked around her, momentarily forgetting how she fell asleep on the canoe. Remembering, Relena lifted her head to look at the stars again. Raindrops kissed her forehead and rolled down her cheeks. They formed the tears she did not allow herself to cry. Momentarily satisfied by the sensation, Relena breathed in and allowed herself to realize her sorrow. The cloudiness of her emotions matched the sky until a bolt of light betrayed the dark night. It was then she realized she was far from the beach.

Squinting in the quick flashes of the storm, Relena searched for a place to land, but there was nothing but water. The canoe dangerously danced across the waves that the storm was creating. The waves grew higher and higher until the boat was almost to the point of flipping over when Relena saw a faint light in the distance.

As quickly as she saw the light, it was gone. A wave that Relena had not seen coming had proved to be too much for the small boat as it gave way to the river. Relena found herself underwater, searching for someway to get her foot unstuck from a board. The frame of the boat viciously knocked against her sore body as it too tried to free itself. She struggled her body upward to gasp a quick breath of air into her lungs and then plunged under the water again as a wave rolled on top of her. Somehow, she managed loosen her foot, flip the canoe over, and climb in.

Standing in the canoe, Relena waved and screamed frantically to light of the oncoming boat. As it drew closer, the rain drowned out Relena?s screams and her movements became jerkier. A foot hit the slippery wood and slid out from under her. Pain poured through her veins like the rain did seized the sky. White light flooded her pounding head as her body gave way to unconsciousness. Water poured into the small canoe from both sides as the waves threatened to capsize the boat once more. A small, but growing pool of blood fought the rain to stain her white face and the pale, worn out boards of the canoe. And as suddenly as the storm came for Relena, all was silent.

Meanwhile?.

A figure ran from the same storm into the Peacecraft mansion. His clothes clung to his body, and for once, the shear volume of pouring rain had tamed his wild hair by weighting it down. At first appearance, his body language and blue eyes suggested that this man was simply running in the rain and nothing was wrong. However, this was far from the truth.

**Flashback**

Heero was still sitting at his desk when Relena bolted out his room. He looked at the door, somewhat puzzled by what had transpired. It didn?t seem real to him. Rubbing his drooping eyes, he stretched out and fell onto the nearby bed. Instantly, he was asleep.

His sleep was far from peaceful. It wasn?t the first time he had dreamed of her. He knew that if he had given into her tonight as he had the few times he had allowed himself to, she would be killed. He could still almost feel her blood on his hands from those dreams. She had given everything she had to him and he had killed her. He couldn?t let it happen again. He had to protect her from him. He tossed and turned on the bed as he had for so many nights of his life. Somewhere in the depths of his slumber he braced himself for another battle ? another tortured dream. This was another familiar dream. In the darkness he heard her voice calling him, needing him to protect her. Something didn?t seem right though, a voice inside of him whispered. The voices grew and grew, trying to wake him up, but were unsuccessful. It was the thunder that finally awakened him.

?Relena? was all that was heard as Heero quickly sat up and looked out the window. As if it was Zero, he saw her far from home and in trouble. The same voice that had been trying to wake him up whispered to him that it was his fault. Now, even rejecting her caused her blood on his hands. And this time, her quickly realized, this time was no dream. Relena had offered everything to him and he had tossed her aside.

The next flash of lightening found Heero?s room empty as he had somehow already made it out the front steps of the mansion. He did not know where he was going. He did not know how far he was to run, but he followed something deep inside of him that guided him. Stones that had washed on to the sidewalks bit into his flesh, but he kept running. He hadn?t bothered to put on shoes before he rushed out to find her.

Heero stopped running when he reached the shore. The voice seemed to call him into the water but Heero could see nothing to follow. He ran up and down the beach calling her name instead, only to have the empty sounds of the wind and the waves answer him back. Turning once more to the water, Heero noticed that the canoe he kept tied up was missing. It was then he realized why he was drawn to the water ? she was out there somewhere. His soaked body ran back to the mansion to find someway to get out there as quickly as possible.

?It?s all my fault,? his mind screamed at him. A few blocks away from the mansion, Heero suddenly stopped. He could no longer hear her calling for him. He looked over his shoulder and then suddenly took off, running faster than before.

**End Flashback**

?I?d better bring medical supplies? his stoic mind reasoned as he ran up the steps to her home.
