Growing pains...

Post by blackrose »

Not the show.

We've moved to our new server, and that was a semi-disaster, but all in all, not SO bad because had I not tried to move everything when I did, we might not have a website, since our PREVIOUS hosting provider went out of business (and is apparently trying to charge my credit card, fraudulently, after the fact - Oh what fun...).

There are, however, some fun and exciting changes I've been needing to make around here that I've been putting off forever. And now, with the new hosting package, I'm going to try to make them.

There is one problem, however. We're running on phpBB version 2.0.2. The most current version is 2.0.8. I need to upgrade the software running the site before I can make any changes, since most modifications are only compatible with version 2.0.6 and up.

The problem comes in that this board is not a 'canned' version of the software. The code has been modified (by me), so I can't just install an upgrade to the new software w/o overwriting my modifications. Which means, this is a lot of headache, and there will probably be times when you access the site and it gives you exciting and fun errors like "parse heading /htdocs/www/phpBB/page_header.php

That means I'm working on the site. And I'm trying to catch any place/page that is giving that error and replace it with the original file, so that I can run a "diff" command to find out the difference between the file I have and the new one I'm supposed to install.

This will take some time and patience on both our parts. If you come across one of those parsing errors and it persists after an hour, PLEASE let me know - blackrose@blissfulignorance.com or destinysblackrose@hotmail.com. I SHOULD be catching them fairly quickly. There may be some down time with regards to the profile page since I am planning on making that change as soon as I finish upgrading the software. There very well could be some VERY drastic changes going on around here. I will keep you posted as best as I can.

In the meantime, please excuse the dust, parsing errors, and whatnot as I try to upgrade the site.

Thanks so much!

Rose
