A/N: I'm getting stuck on the other fic, and although I promise to finish it, I thought that writing something else that has been floating around in my mind might help. BTW, if you didn't know (grins) I still don't own them. Which means I make NADA on this.
Comments and suggestions are more than welcome. I write much better when I feel like others are enjoying. If you don't enjoy, please let me know what is wrong. I can take criticism too. Just don't flame me b/c it is a 1xR not a 1x2 fic.

Chapter 1
The wind angrily snapped at Relena?s tired feet. Small beads of sweat clung to her skin, occasionally being tossed aside as they were caught by the night air. The moon eerily snickered down at her, laughing at her stupidity, as the blackness of the night seemed to swallow her whole. Her body ached from running. Her eyes were moist as tears threatened to fall. She would not give into her emotions. She would not allow herself to cry over him. She would not be weak again.
She kept running. She ran and ran no matter how far away from home she was. She was afraid for the first time in a long time ? afraid to let her emotions show to the shadow she was sure was following her. She could never escape the shadow, no matter how fast or far she ran. No matter where she went. She could not hide from the piercing, knowing blue eyes that cast the shadow. Yet somehow, she had to.
Somewhere in the depths of her jumbled thoughts, she heard the sounds of water crashing into land. Running further into the night, Relena stopped as she saw the river. It was a sound of conflict as the water tried to eat away the shore, bruising and punishing it for confining the wild waves. The shore took the abuse, standing as tall, solid, and reliable. Its foundation was slowly being picked at by the stubbornly patient waves. She noted that sometimes the waves would give the shores a reprieve. A luxury she didn?t have.
Her shadow was the waves and she was the shore. Whether he was there or not, whether he spoke or stayed silent, his seemingly omnipotent presence ate at her. At first, she was so happy to have him there. Her heart beamed and whispered to her mind that his presence surely indicated that he cared. It wistfully believed that all the shadow would need was time. Then the shadow could step into the light and be the person she knew he was, but hid. Now she wasn?t so sure.
Relena spotted an old canoe tied to the shores and climbed in. Stroke by stroke she engulfed herself into the tireless lake. When she could barely see the shoreline, she stopped, finally satisfied that she was alone. Cool breeze kissed her cheeks and calmed her thoughts. Rocking back and forth with the waves, Relena starred at the shoreline, wondering how it could remain after all of these years. She leaned back to look at the beautiful stars, lightly sparkling in the deep night.
Tonight, no shooting star illuminated the sky, she mused as she thought about what had happened earlier.
**Flashback**
A door slightly creaked open as Relena hurried herself into the room. Closing the door quickly behind her, she turned to see Heero looking at her expectantly, yet as usual, he said nothing.
?Heero, why have you been avoiding me all day??
His eyes flashed with surprise and filled with nothingness once again. ?I haven?t. I?ve been busy.?
?No matter how busy you have been in the past, you have still come with me to my speeches. Please let me help. Tell me what is wrong.? Relena?s eyes implored him, not with pity but determination.
???
Her body languages suddenly changed as she daringly, yet softly questioned, ?Was it because of what happened the other night?? She was referring to the kiss he had given her the other night when he walked her back to her room after a ball held at the mansion.
?No.?
?But, Heero...?
?Look, we?ve talked about this. I shouldn?t have done it. It will not happen again.?
She walked further into the room, closer to where he was sitting at a small desk. Light flickered off the screen of his laptop.
?What if I want you to??
She took the lack of an answer as a positive sign. Seizing the opportunity, she stood in front of Heero, just inches away from his chair.
It was then that she knew he saw her dressed in her silk nightgown. It clung to her curves in a very inviting way. She noted his eyes did not flicker a response nor did his breathing change. He simply looked at her as he had every day for the last two years.
She nervously leaned down so that her face was almost touching his. ?I want you,? she stated simply. She saw no reason to lie or play games.
She was shocked when he acted like she had said nothing and instead turned back to work on his laptop. A few moments later, her dazed mind heard a flat voice say, ?Get some sleep Relena, you look tired.?
Humiliated, she ran out the door to her room, threw on some different clothes and charged out the front door. She never saw him but Relena knew that he knew the second she left, so she began running.
(End flashback)
The sky seemed to call her tonight. It whispered words of eternity to her lonely ears. She did not notice that she was drifting far away from the shore. Finally, a tired and hurt Relena feel asleep.
