I'm a newbie but I love fanfiction. Here's an original fic I came up with, please read and review!
Nightfall
Ch.1
Strange Encounter
Sunlight. Humans consider this substance?life-giving. But as Michiru ran behind a large oak for shade, she realized how inaccurate this view truly was. She laughed slightly to think that she, a distinguished vampire, much accustomed to fierce battles with werewolves and the like, was forced to shy away from rays of sunlight. But Michiru was not a conventional vampire. She lived alone and had fended for herself ever since childhood. Clothed in heavy layers to protect her vulnerable body from the burning light, she ran as quickly as she could without falling over from behind the oak to another larger one. The sun would set in about an hour or so and she had to find a place to hide before then. Years ago she had decided that she would try and do most traveling during the day to avoid being detained by other vampires. This took a heavy toll on her, but it was worth a little sunlight to keep from meeting up with a large band of vampires. Michiru?s eyes darted from left to right, looking for a good shelter. Time was running out. Then something caught her eye. Nearly a fourth of a mile away, she saw a doe eating a patch of grass. Beside it was a small fawn, staying close to its legs. Michiru knew that the doe wouldn?t be out at night with the baby to watch and decided she could wait it out to see where the deer would hide. Shielding her eyes against the sun?s rays, she watched anxiously. Michiru?s patience was waning. Then, after a few minutes, the deer turned its head toward the setting sun. Its eyes widened fearfully, while its muscles tensed. The pair were about to run and Michiru prepared to follow. She didn?t want to scare the deer herself because they would never deliberately lead her to their home if they knew she was in pursuit. A few seconds passed, Michiru?s wide amber eyes studying the animal?s posture. Any minute now?suddenly the deer sprang from its position, flying as quickly as the wind. And just as hard to follow. Michiru leapt up from her own position behind the tree, leaving the comfort of the shadows into the brilliant heat of the sun. She ran at full speed after the deer, her heavy clothes weighing her down. And the heat! The sun was so hot! She wondered how humans could enjoy it.
?Slow down!? Michiru spat at the deer, feeling a bit faint as she kept running.
But she was keeping up fairly well with the animal considering it was daylight and the cursed animal had gotten a head start.
After what seemed like hours, Michiru started to slow down as the sun?s harsh rays beat down on her. Her pace diminished to a jog, and then to a slow walk. She gasped. The doe was no longer in view. Turning around in circles, trying to look for where it could have gone, she kept walking forward. There was nothing she could do but try and get out of the forest. Vampires and werewolves alike weren?t partial to open areas so Michiru had a chance?that is, if she didn?t suffer a heatstroke first. Crawling on hands and knees now, she could hardly see her way forward. Now all she could do was pull her body along the ground, grabbing handfuls of grass along the way. And then?everything went black.
?Where?where am I?? Michiru thought to herself.
She was no longer overheated so she assumed it was dark out. But there was no wind. She wasn?t outside! Her eyes shot open and she beheld a small dimly lit room with lots of strange objects decorating the walls and tables. There were stacks of books and the whole room smelled of countless aromatic herbs. Then Michiru saw she was laying on a soft pallet, covered in a wool blanket?and there was an elderly woman examining her arm. Michiru?s reaction was a vicious hiss as she pulled her arm out of the woman?s grasp.
?Who are you and what are you doing?!? Michiru exclaimed, holding her arm in her hand.
?That hand is very sensitive isn?t it? Why have you never had a healer examine it young vampiress?? the woman asked gently, her shaky hands lifting a small satchel from her tunic.
Michiru eyed the woman suspiciously. She was no doubt a human and yet she showed no fear of being bitten.
?Who are you?? Michiru asked, becoming a little more trusting of this strange human.
She smiled, her blue eyes shining with a youthful shimmer. ?I am Tanaki. And you?are Michiru.?
