Letters from Midnight
Margaret Le'Chaune put the cigarett delicately between her crimson lips and inhaled. She pulled the cigarett out and exhaled, her smoke spiraling up and joining the cloud in the nightclub. Margaret studied her cigarett. Her lips had left a red stain, something reminicent of blood. She sighed and brought the cigarett to her lips again.
"Miss Le'Chaune? Maraget Le'Chaune?" Margaret looked up to see a young man standing infront of her.
"And who are you?" she asked blowing the smoke over his left shoulder.
"William Elthesth, I'm with the American Goverment," he said. Margaret sighed and half-smiled at him.
"Not to bright are you?" she motioned for him to sit across from her. He obliged her, "I assume you know why you're here."
"Actually miss Le'Chaune I was hoping you could tell me that," he said. She eyed him carefully. He was young, not very but young enough. His brown-blond hair was curly and his eyes were a startling shade of blue.
"Drink?" she asked.
"No thank you," he said.
"Well Mr. Elthesth, what brings you to the slums of Paris?"
"Buisness," he said.
"Buisness," she repeated carefully and inhaled, "Tell me Mr. Elthesth, does your buisness mean a lot to you?" she said exhaling.
"I live for my work," he said seriously.
"Thats good," she nodded, blowing smoke again, "But the real question isn't if you're willing to live for your work, it's if your willing to die for it."
"I'm afraid I'm not ready to die Ms. Le'Chaune and I won't be for some time." Margaret smiled and stood up, taking a final inhale from her cigarett. She placed it in the ashtray. Turning she walked into the smoke of the nightclub. William stood up heasitantly and heasitated before seeing her leaning on a doorframe waiting for him. She pushed herself up and walked out into the Paris night. He heasitated again before walking after her. Margaret lit another cigarett, "You wait a lot, is that normal for Americans?" William looked at her sharply.
"I don't like to generalize Ms. Le'Chaune," he said tightly.
"Ah but of course," she said and walked down another ally. Soon they were standing in front of a large building. Margaret walked foward and opened the building. She walked up the stairs and into a small apartment. Margaret opened a drawer and pulled out a buisness card. She passed it to him.
"That address at 5 tommorrow," she said and opened the door. He walked out. "Oh and Mr. Elthesth?" he looked up, "Don't be late." William looked at the buisness card and groaned. He pulled out his mobile phone and dialed quickly.
"Yes this is William Elthesth, room 230, I need you to call an airport I need to be on the next flight to Barcelona, Spain."

more to come, right now you're probably going what the F*ck is going on?! Don't worry it'll clear up.

William Elthesth put the car into gear and took off through the streets of Barcelona. The city was quiet in the morning, it looked like someone had pulled a light blue film over everything. He stopped outside the darkened night club. Getting out he pushed open the door.
Diego Lucrize leaned back in his chair. The band was playing some slightly familiar song, it was annoying him since he couldn't place it. Diego frowned and stared at his liquor, hoping the answer would come to him--it didn't.
"Senor Lucrize?" William asked in Spanish. Diego rolled his eyes.
"Speak American, that is what you are correct?" he asked. William nodded, "Well sit down." William sat, "I don't believe in pretending Mr. Elthesth, you're American yet you try to speak Spanish, why?"
"Well we're in Spain," Wililam repeated.
"How are you sure?" Diego asked.
"What?"
"How are you so sure you're in Spain? Did you make your plane reservations or did someone do it for you?"
"What?"
"I asked you if you made your plane reservations Mr. Elthesth," Diego repeated.
"No," William said blinking.
"Look over your left shoulder Mr. Elthesth." William looked over his shoulder. Standing against the wall was Margaret in the same dress, "If you arrived here a minuet ago, by the quickest route possible how did she beat you?" William thought for a second.
"Well there are two possibilities, either she found a quicker way--"
"What way? You were on the next flight and drove here 40 kilometers over the speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour, any faster and her car would probably have suffered serious damage."
"Then the only other option is this is the same night club and I'm still in France."
"Then which is it? Are you in France or are you in Spain?" William frowned and looked over at Margaret. That's when he noticed it, her hair was lighter. Not very light, but light enough to make a difference. He also noticed when she stood upright she was slightly shorter and her features were more rounded, along with her figure. The real thing was she wasn't smoking and shying away from the man in front of her who was.
"I'm in Spain, that woman's hair is lighter, she's shorter too."
"So? hair coloring and shoes."
"Her figure's fuller."
"Eating." William nodded.
"But Ms. Margaret Le'Chaune was a chain smoker, I saw her. This woman isn't, she's shying away from that man who is smoking." Diego nodded, "So I must be in Barcelona, Spain."
"Well Mr. Elthesth--" he began, "Welcome to Spain. The woman you're looking at is Margaret Le'Chaune's twin sister Charlotte who is not a chain smoker," Diego lit a cigarett and put it to his lips, "So, Mr. Elthesth, I suggest you follow the lady." William looked to Charlotte who was talking to the man.
"Exscuse me?" he then was shocked as Diego exhaled smoke which took the form of a lady. Diego blew the smoke-lady and she flew off in another direction. William stared.
"I'd hurry Mr. Elthesth, if you wait she'll be gone before you know it. Women are funny like that." Wiliam stood up and walked in the direction of the smoke-lady. He vanished into the depths of the night club.
"Well?" Diego looked up at Charlotte.
"A bit heasitant but that will change." Charlotte nodded and walked off. Deigo waited a minuet, then stood up and followed her.

The smoke-lady blew through a curtain. He walked in. A pair of hands wrapped around his chest.
"So you're new boy, William," a voice purred. The figure came around front and put his hands on her hips. William was aware there was music and the woman had her hands around his neck. Her hips moved in time with the music and very suductively, "Tell me Mr. Elthesth, how have you like your little venture so far?" she took one of his hands and spun around, pushing back against him.
"It's been interesting," he said obediently following her.
"Do you always follow like this?" she asked spinning out again, "You won't make it in this world if you."
"What world is this?" he asked, annoyed.
"What world do you think this is?" she asked as the song stopped. William had enough. He threw off his jacket, this woman wanted to dance? Fine. The beat started up and he pulled her to him. She spun in and he put one hand on her hip and took her hand with his other. They began to dance, "So what world is this?" he demanded.
"Curious are we?" she asked pulling out and back in.
"No, I think you know exactly what's going on," he said brashly.
"Oh no no Mr. Elthesth," she spun around, "That's not the way to think." She stepped backwards, moving in time with the music. He came foward following her movements, "You see, a minuet ago you were following everything, now the anger has taken over you," she pushed against him again slid down, coming back up again and wrapped an arm around his neck, "The passion is ruling you. Now you're interested in getting the prize, now you want the answers," she said and leaned back, "The question is Mr. Elthesth, are you willing to go and get them?" She tucked a card into his pocket and tried to pull away. William tightened his grip on her waist. She smiled seductively and twisted, he twisted with her. Suddenly they were doing a dance all their own with her trying to go and him not letting her go. Finally she sucessfully got out of his grip and winked, vanishing into the depths. William pulled out the buisness card. One word was written on it: FOLLOW. He grabbed his jacket, something skidded to the floor. It was a mask, the kind you'd find in Venice during Carnival or New Orleans during Mardi Gras. It covered his face and had a hood like a jester's. The surface was painted in gold and inlaid with small gems. William jumped up and followed the woman. He found himself in the entrance to a tunnel.
William walked foward, a flash of red silk vanished around a corner and he sped up. The sound of woman's laughter played on his ears as he turned the next corner.
"Has he put on his mask yet?" laughed a voice.
"No, but he will," laughed another. William slid the mask on.
"Follow us," whispered a voice, the feeling of smooth skin brushed his exposed neck. William turned to find nothing there. Someone brushed against his arm and he saw the woman infront of him, a mask pulled over her face. He walked foward, someone brushed his other arm and he saw the same woman, it happened a few more times. William shook his head to clear it.
"You won't get rid of us Elthesth," laughed one voice.
"Not that easily," laughed another.
"We'll be with you, always," the second voice laughed again. William stopped and tried to shake his head.
"No Elthesth, you aren't going crazy."
"You already are."
"Insaine."
"You won't rid us, follower."
"Crazy."
"You can't even see us, you're going mad Elthesth, no you're not."
"You're already mad Elthesth, you're already mad."
William was breathing hard, he couldn't think strait. The voices held promises of mystery and intruige while making him want to run screaming at the same time. He knew he'd heard the voices before, but he couldn't remember where. William doubted he'd know his own mother right now.
"You've heard us, like your father, like your father's line, all heard."
William wanted to scream, he felt like he had been dropped into a giant prisim, everything was being reflected and it was all too bright.
"You're mad, mad mad mad."
William balled his hands into fists and continued into the maze, deeper and deeper into it's depths. He wanted--no needed to know what was going on. The voices stopped suddenly and the small lights went out. William was painfully aware of his breathing and how loud his heart was.
'One foot in front of the other, one foot in front of the other' he chanted in his mind. Apbruptly the maze widened out and then became narrower, then widened again until he was in the middle of a wide open space. His feet crunched against the ground and he reached down. His hand brushed against the grains and he pulled back. Suddenly lights burst on. William sucked in his breath.
"Oh my god."
He was standing on a field of what looked like rock-salt. Parts of it were blown skewed around and he could see the turquoise water. Strung above him were lights, like christmas lights. The real stunning thing was all around him were people, each wearing a mask and each carrying a deadly-looking weapon.
'oh shit' William cursed mentally 'I knew I should've stayed in the night club'

'Shit' William thought again. Someone grabbed his ankle and suddenly he was underwater. Faintly he could here gunshots then something gave way and he was pulled into a tunnel.
He surfaced gasping in a fountain. Shaking the water out of his eyes he turned to see Diego standing up.
"Come on," he said and climbed out, "I'll explain everything, just walk."
Diego stopped in front of a sleek building made out of glass and steel. He walked inside and pulled out an id card, swiping it. William followed him. Diego got in an elevator and closed the door in William's face. Another elevator opened behind him. William walked inside, it was a normal elevator. Soft music was playing, William recignized the tune as the song from the nightclub he just left. William bit his lip.
"Alright I'm an organization that likes to confuse people. What floor would I be on?" he studied the widely spaced buttons, "I'd be on the 13th floor, but there is no 13th floor," he muttered, "So I'd be in the basment." he pressed the button for the basement. The elevator moved down and opened on a mailroom, then closed. William sighed.
"Alright, 13 is between 12 and 14." He pressed 12 with his finger and then 14. The elevator jerked up and then stopped. William pressed 12 and 14 at the same time and the elevator jerked up, soon it stopped. The doors opened.
"You held the buttons, didn't you?" Diego asked crossing his arms, "Your knuckles are white." William walked out of the elevator and into the hallway, "Well come on--unless you want me to get one of my girls to give you an address again." William followed him down the hallway. Deigo stopped at the pair of double doors and looked up. They scanned his eyes and William was sure they scanned his too. The doors opened and William's jaw dropped.
William was standing on a mosaic depticting an oval mask. The left eye of the mask was the crescent moon and the right eye was the sun. The entire thing was surrounded by a circle that had been broken and was drifting apart. Each of the pieces was a different shade of grey. William squinted and he could see the pieces were actually moving.
"Welcome to the Midnight Organization headquaters Mr. Elthesth," Diego said sweeping his hand to the circular room. People were coming in and out around the place, nodding to Diego. AN aged man approached them.
"Ah, so you've brough him in." Diego nodded, "Mr. Elthesth I am Professor Bromer, would you follow me?" he numbly followed him, still confused. Bromer sighed, "Terrible thing to happen to one so young."
"What?"
"I feel sad for you, usually domrancy ends when the subject is young so there is time to adjust, you're a late bloomer Elthesth."
"What in hell are you talking about?!"
"You're becoming a pryokintetic Mr. Elthesth, that's why your here and thats why the masked people want you."

"A what?" William stared in utter confusion at Professor Bromer.
"Would you stop scaring him?" Charlotte snapped coming inside. She eyed William before motioning for him to follow and walking out. William jumped up and followed her, "Welcome Mr. Elthesth to the Midnight Organization. You are in our main headquarters, just outside Andorra."
"That's impossible--I was in Barcelona an hour ago!" he cried.
"And you were standing on a field of rock salt in a lagoon," Charlotte said matter-of-factly.
"Who were those people?"
"Not people Mr. Elthesth, they are many things but people is not one of them," she said opening a door to a conference room, "Why don't you sit?" she motioned to the chairs placed around the table, "Now, you are in the Midnight Organization Headquarters. I'll explaine everything........"

William looked at the book he was holding and opened it, settling down to read.
How long ago was it? too long, that was for sure. Someone once said no story is old if it's your own story. I wonder who that person was and where they are now. Aound sixteen hundred years ago, a hero led his people to victory and then faliure. He said his power would be with them, give them the ability to fly even when their wings were clipped. They say, when he died, the sky cried out for him and unleashed a plauge on the world in anguish. A few hundred years later, the fury began to subside until one of the hero's decendants was killed. Then it returned in all it's fury.
It's funny, because when it returned, it caused more fury from those it was supposed to stop. But the enemy was stronger, faster and perfectly designed for the sole purpose of revenge. We weren't. Facing them outright would have been suicide, but hiding was not an option. We had one other option: sneak. The Midnight Organization was named for Midnight, the hour in which night becomes day, Midnight is the promise of tommorow, the promise of things to come.
We soon discovered not all these things are bad, quite the opposite, some of them are nice. We won't be able to kill all these things, that's impossible. The one thing we can do is find the latest decendant and keep him safe so the fury cannot be invoked again. They're dying and they know it, we must classify them, study them and eliminate them in any and every way we can.
"Is that why I'm here?" William demanded slamming the book closed, "You think I'm the latest descendant?" Charlotte laughed.
"No, we discovered you have the potential to be a very very dangerous pyrokinetic."
"What the fuck is that?!" William yelled.
"Manupilation and potential generation of fire with your mind. Pyrokenisis--or a person would be classified as pyrokinetic."
"Oh god, I'm--oh no way," he said, "No way in hell."
"Yes way, you're a half-breed Elthesth, your father was probably some kind of demon and your mother was human or something--"
"I am not hearing this. In a minuet I'll wake up, I am not hearing this--la la la." he clapped his hands over his ears.
"Hey ADD boy!" Charlotte snapped her fingers before his eyes, "Look right here," he looked up, "Watch this." Charlotte looked over her shoulder. Margaret came inside. They blended together to one person. William yelled and threw himself backwards before hitting his head and passing out.

"Bloody hell. How long is he going to be out for?"
"Who knows, he hit his head pretty hard."
"Well you two did pull your 'gemini' bit." The conversation was taking place between Micheal Bromer, Professor Bromer's son, and the Gemini (aka Charlotte and Margaret). They were standing above the bed where William was unconcious.
"Margaret! Put that cigarett out or leave with it immediately!" cried Professor Bromer. She rolled her eyes and walked out. Charlotte looked at William thoughtfully.
"How do we know he's Pryokinetic?" she asked looking at Professor Bromer.
"A lot of odd fires have been happening recently in the F.B.I., they think he's connected and sent him here. The problem is Mr. Elthesth was invovled in a rather bad fire when he was little, no-one was hurt, but Mr. Elthesth has a fear of fire." William gasped and opened his eyes, loooking around quickly.
"Where am I?!"
"What's your name?"
"William James Elthesth."
"Occupation?"
"Special Agent with the F.B.I."
"What does CBGB stand for?"
"Country Blue Grass and Blues."
"Where are you?"
"In the Midnight Organization Headquarters outside Andorra, Spain."
"Who is Diego Lucrize?"
"Someone who works with you guys and can blow a woman from cigarett smoke?"
"Margaret Le'Chaune? Charlotte Le'Chaune"
"They can become the same person."
"What are you turning into?"
"A pyrokinetic."
"Well I think his memory's good," Charlotte said sarcastically, "Now can we give him some breathing room?" Micheal and his father were so close to WIlliam they were practically suffocating him.
"WHERE THE FUCK IS DIEGO! THAT BASTARD'S GOING TO ROT IN HELL WITH ME PERSONALLY TORTURING HIM FOR ALL OF FUCKING ETERNITY!" Charlotte winced as the voice boomed and echoed off the hallway.
"What the hell is that?!" cried William looking out.
"That is Dominan--Diego's father and 2nd in command of the Midnight Organization."
"No human has a voice like that," William said, still staring at the door.
"What makes you think he's human?"
"Who knows, he hit his head pretty hard."
