My Belated Valentine
Disclaimer: I don?t own Gundam Wing. Neither do I own Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Relena Darlian or Hilde Schbeiker
AN: This fic is dedicated to my friend and CO-worker Dave, the inspiration of this short, belated Valentine?s Day gift to the lovely ladies of BI.
?Relena?, Heero slipped in the room interrupting his target from her paperwork.
She looked up, dazed confused almost. She brushed a stray lock of golden hair out of her face and gave that introverted man of hers the other half of her attention, ?Yes Heero, I see your back from your mission.? She looked back down at her papers to try and find something to add to that entirely too detached greetings she gave; ?I assume it went well then??
?I was finished with my debriefing early this morning?, Heero?s eyes studied her meticulously. ?And yes?, he added, ?It was a success.?
?I?m glad to here it?, Relena responded taking a quick glance back down at her paperwork, ?and you know how much I like talking with you but I really have a lot to do today.?
Briefly, Heero considered ducking out of this like he had always done. ?No?, he thought, ?I?m going through with it?. Heero moved in closer to Relena?s desk.
Relena looked up again, this time noticing that Heero wasn?t wearing his uniform, but rather a blue semi-formal suit. Even more curious, was how he seemed to be hiding something behind his back. ?Heero? What?s this about?? her cerulean eyes met his indigo blue in an attempt to find answers.
Unsure of how to say what he wanted to say nor justify what he planned to do the normally stoic preventer took a deep breath and started from the beginning, ?Duo and I were on surveillance, across the street from the suspected terrorist hideout??
?I really don?t have time for a long story, Heero?, she interrupted, ?I don?t mean to be rude but could you try and get to the point quickly?
?Damn?, Heero silently cursed, ?I think I may have rubbed off on her?. ?Anyway?, he continued, ?There was some gunfire and a bullet flew no more then a centimeter past my head.?
?Oh my?, the honey blonde politician?s eyes widened, ?but you?re all right, right??
?Yes, that sort of thing has happened to me before but this time I started thinking about it. I was watching Maxwell trying to write a letter to Hilde and then I realized that all I could think about was you?
Relena?s interest was fully perked with that statement.
?And then I realized that every time I almost died like, since I met you?, he hesitated not sure how to read Relena?s wide eyed expression, ?It?s been the same thing. So I??
Relena took a deep breath and managed to force sound out of her quivering mouth, ?Heero, if you?re not being serious, please stop.?
After scanning those beautiful blue eyes of hers his hand shot out from behind his back to reveal a small chocolate box with a note on it. ?I know it?s the 15th, and I know it isn?t much but here.?
Relena feared that she might drop the small pink box as she gingerly attained it from Heero?s hand. Immediately, she grabbed the plane white piece of paper from the top and unfolded it.
This was the moment of truth, Heero had carefully constructed a letter that so adequately and eloquently described his feelings toward that young princess before him, that if it were rejected he never stood a chance to begin with. Time ceased to move as Heero followed Relena?s eyes as the flowed down the paper.
She looked up, not looking angry but not entirely happy looking either, and far too soon to have read the entire note. Heero?s heart almost stopped as Relena gasped, ?Heero!?, and slapped the note down on her desk.
Heero, examined the plain letter from afar, and with great horror he realized that it wasn?t his. His letter was long, thorough, thoughtful and meaningful; this was the handiwork of Maxwell, a stupid four line poem. ?Relena?, Heero began, ?this??
?I wouldn?t have expected this from you?, she interrupted.
?If only you?d done this when I wasn?t so busy?, she continued.
The Japanese preventer?s jaw dropped, ?Wait? you liked it??
?It was cute?, she smiled, ?but right now I have a world to maintain though.?
?I?ll leave?, Heero turned around in a daze, unsure of what else to do or say; he needed time to think and get over the shock.
?Wait?, Relena called out as she rose from her plush seat. She straitened her blouse and walked up to her surprise after-valentine, who had turned his head back around to face hers. ?You?re really being serious; aren?t you??
Heero nodded.
?Listen?, Relena?s voice almost seemed to crack with anxiety, ?Are you free later this evening; I might have some free time. I mean don?t get me wrong I?m not easy or whorish or anything like that but??
?I didn?t think you were?, Heero replied.
Relena gently placed her hand on Heero?s shoulder and cautiously gave him a quick peck on the cheek. She thought to go back to her work then but some unknown force kept her in place. ?Oh, screw it!?, she exclaimed as she drew herself up to Heero?s body and met his mouth with hers.
The mission seemed to be a success for Heero, despite the unforeseen hindrance. Only one thing seemed to be left to figure out ? what had happened to HIS letter. But at the moment he had no intention of investigating it.

Meanwhile At L2
Hilde cocked her eyebrow as she read the note.
Duo?s sported his best boyish smile, expecting to here praise for his uniquely unrefined brand of wit.
?So Duo?, Hilde questioned, ?Thanks for the flowers but did you actually read this before swiping it from Yuy or did I forget about the time when you ?point[ed] a gun at [my] head at point blank range???
?What??, that wasn?t anything like what he wrote. He grabbed the white paper from her hand and quickly skimmed the long, drudge of a confession of love that was printed upon it. ?Wait! This isn?t mine! Mine was cheeky and clever; this is a freaken report.?
Hilde smirked as she nodded.
?Don?t worry though! My fair lady, I remember every word by heart.? Duo knelt protracting his left arm outwards as if to deliver a Shakespearean soliloquy.
?My love is brighter then the shining stars.
My love spans further then the moons of Mars.
In the dark my love shines bright.
Now I wrote you a poem; I want a good night.?
AN: Sorry if it isn?t that good. I wrote it very quickly.
