The Pain Within part 6
Duo walked towards the hospital where his friend was recovering.
The white hallways and rooms gave a weird sense of hygiene.
Duo counted the doors until he reached the one Heero should be in.
He opened the door to find a white room with one bed in the middle. Around it were different hospital equipment's and tables.
On these tables there were all sorts of flowers, cards and gifts. Most of them came from Duo.
He felt terribly quilty about the explosion, after all, he was the one who suggested to go try the front door.
When his eyes trailed towards Heero's bed he found nothing.
His eyes widened is shock. "Ah shit he did it again!"
Duo raced through the hallways, his eyes searching for the missing patient.
He turned and came face to face with a prefenter agent.
The agent stumbled back from the blow. "Can't you watch it?!" He said. The agent looked up and gasped. "Ow, I'm sorry sir. I thought you were somebody else."
Duo scratched the back of his head. "Nah, that's alright, I should have been more careful." A few seconds of silence fell between the two until Duo spoke. "Ow yeah we have a code 105 on our hands here! Make sure prefenters are on the look-out!" Duo turned and once again resumed his running pace to find a certain missing person.
"A 105? Again?!" He heard the prefenter shout behind him as he continued his search.
****Not far from the hospital******
He had finally made it. Those stupid guards didn't even notice him leaving. He definitely had to train them harder, if he could get out of his room, he didn't even want to think about what would happen if they watched Relena.
Heero shook his head, he had other things to think about now...like finding Relena.
Heero slowly walked towards the Peacecraft mansion, he needed to get his laptop from his office.
He found it quite easy to jump over the surrounding gate. But now the harder part came. He had to get into his office without being seen. Luckely he designed the secrurety sustem, he knew of it's weaknesses. 'Mental note. Inprove security system.'
He looked at his watch and counted the seconds before he shot out of his hiding place. It took him 5 seconds to reach the wall and started to climb up.
His side ached, the wound still wasn't completely healed, and it took him precious time.
After 45 seconds he reached his office window just in time to dodge the now turning camera.
He let go of a deep breath he didn't know he was holding. He grabbed his laptop from his desk and once again started counting before jumping off the balcony.
He landed on his feet not to gracefully, his side taking a large blow. He recovered within a few seconds and made his way away from the house.
He had to find a save hiding place for him to do his research. He walked through the streets and wondered where to go, when an idea popped in his head, if you don't want to be found you need to go somewhere they won't look, and that's where they already have looked before.
He turned around and resumed a steady jogging pace towards the hospital. The only problem now was getting in without being seen.
The hospital was very quiet, just a few cars were parked on the parking lot and only a handful off people were walking towards or from the hospital.
Heero carefully scanned the area and found no prefenters nore any of the pilots.
The walked casually towards the hospital, the best way to get in was through the front door. He walked through the self opening sliding doors and looked at the map displayed near the lobby.
He needed to find an empty room, he searched on the map but couldn't find anything that would definitely not be in use.
"You know the second wing is getting along perfectly. I didn't know they could rebuild it that easily."
Heero's ears picked up the conversation of 2 young nurses who were probably on their break.
"Yeah, it's to bad though, we now have much less room. We had to move all the patients there. Even the critical once! I don't understand that. You know that young guy near.." He didn't need to here more. His eyes scanned his way towards the second wing and he turned to the left.
When he entered the second wing he had to make his way through construction supplies and wet paint areas.
He entered a room and a quick scan made it clear that it had been empty for a while.
He seated himself on the floor and opened his laptop. 'There must have been something I missed.' He said to himself while typing on his computer.
He read data on Dr. Lotus and his former patients. Nothing came up new, he then scanned any other things witch Dr. Lotus's name came up in.
The list was hugh, there where numbers of articles about his fight with the board of directors and a lot about his experiments.
Heero gave a deep sign and started reading with the first article.
After hours of reading Heero had finally found something interesting. He read it, and then re-read it just to be sure he understood it right. If this was what he thought it was, then he might know where Relena would be now.
He closed his laptop and walked towards the exit of the room. He once again made his way through the construction supplies. "He You're not supposed to be here!" A male voice shouted behind him. Heero turned and saw a young man, about his age, looking at him with confused eyes. He was not a treat, so Heero slowly started walking again, ignoring the young man's shouts.
Heero made it through the lobby without being noticed by the 2 prefenters guards. 'Idiots.' Heero said to himself.
Then somebody grabbed him from behind. With a swift movement Heero grabbed the attackers hand, turned it and threw the person over his back. The attacker landed on his back on the floor right in from of Heero.
Heero raised his hand to give his attacker a final blow until he noted that there was no attacker, just Duo.
"Yo buddy, you're not going to hit me are you?" Duo asked, fear evident in his eyes.
Heero grunted and lowered his arm. "You know it's not wise to take off while you should be resting!"
"Hn."
"God Heero you have been shot! You should be in your bed sleeping!"
Heero was silent and Duo kept on wining about him not being in bed resting. Heero knew this was because the braided baka saw him as a friend, a close friend even, he was just concerned about his welfare. He shouldn't be.
"I found her Duo." He suddenly said.
Duo, shocked by Heero's sudden interruption, replied. "What did you say?"
"I found her Duo."
Duo looked confused, then his eyes grew with sudden realization. "You did? You sure?"
"Yes.Duo." Heero said dangerously.
"Well, you were wrong the last time.." Heero grabbed Duo by the shirt and said even more dangerously. "I'm sure."
Duo gulped.
"Ok, Ok. I trust you buddy. Look, we can't go alone again."
"We weren't alone, we had 50 prefenter officers."
"Yeah but, that's not what I mean. We should warn the othe pilots."
Heero grunted, he didn't want them to get involved, but he had to give it to Duo, he needed them. "Alright." He said simply and tried to walk away.
"O, no you don't." Duo said while grasping Heero's shirt.
"Listen to me buddy, you are going back into that bed. And I'll get the other pilots here."
Heero checked his options. 1. Get away and do this by your self. 'Suicide mission.' He decided. 2. Do what Duo says. But that would also mean being laughed at by the guys until next year Christmas. 'I choose suicide mission.' He told himself.
Duo who had been waiting for Heero's answer had called a few other prefenter agents for assistance. After all, Duo was not that stupid to believe Heero would actually listen to him and go back to bed. Heero watched the other prefenters come closer. 'Suicide mission canceled. New mission, go back to bed.' He grunted and followed Duo to his room, even though he was not so willing.
A few hours passed, the sun was already setting when the other pilots arrived. "You found something, I heard." Milliardo said patiently, even though his eyes said otherwise. "Yeah I did." Heero replied.
The 2 pilots shared some filthy looks when Wufei spoke up. "Well, speak we don't have all day."
"Ahh, Wu-Wu, day is already almost over." Duo said.
"INJUSTICE! MY NAME IS NOT WU-WU!"
"We're not here to fight." The silent soldier said, while positioning himself against the wall near Heero's bed.
"You're right Trowa, we're not." Quatra said. "Alright Heero, what did you find out?"
"I've searched every article about Dr. Lotus, almost all information about him, I already had. So nothing interesting."
Heero scanned the room for reactions, when he found none he continued.
"Until I read this one. I'll read it to you." Heero cleared his trough before he started reading. "September 27th Colony L3. The well known gene therapist Dr. Lotus has been attacked by terrorists. His lab near the Victory Falls in Africa has been completely destroyed. Prefenters do not know how this could have happened, there were no explosives found and prefenters suggest that Dr. Lotus has done this himself to collect recurrence money. Although the prefenters are still looking into the case Dr. Lotus has disappeared. No word has been heard from him ever since the explosion. He and his assistant are still searched for by prefenters." Heero looked around the room before he said. "It goes on about Dr. Lotus about what he has accomplished so far, but that's not important."
The room grew silent. "I don't get it." Duo said.
Wufei sighed before he hit Duo on his head. "You don't get anything baka!"
"Then explain if you know it so well! I still don't know where Relena is do you?"
"Yeah it's easy!" Wufei said.
"Well then spill Wu-Wu!"
"Don't call me Wu-Wu!" Wufei got ready to punch Duo once more but was interrupted by Quatra. "Guys this is no time for fighting! Think about Relena!"
Wufei lowered his hand and actually looked ashamed.
"Can somebody please explain to me how we know where Relena is?" Duo said annoyed.
"Where is the best place to hide?" Milliardo asked.
Duo took some time thinking before shortly lifting his shoulders in defeat.
"How about a place where we've already looked?" Trowa said.
Realization slammed into Duo. "So, you guys think his hiding in his old lab hu?" The boys nodded.
"Why couldn't I have thought of that?"
A few phone calls later and it was settled. "There." Miliardo said while hanging up the phone. "A yet will be waiting for us in 5 hours, we will be traveling to Afrika together. Unless anybody has any other engagements." Miliardo scanned the room, while all pilots stayed silent. "Good, then get ready. We're leaving at 23.00 hours."
All pilots started to get out of the room, only Miliardo and Heero stayed in. "I'm coming too." Heero said suddenly.
Miliardo turned. "I know I can't stop you. Even though the best thing for you is to stay here."
Heero glared at the older man. "I will not sit here and do nothing while Relena is being tortured by that mad man!" Miliardo had an understanding look. "Yes, I know how that feels." He said while walking towards the door. "As I said get ready, we're leaving at 23.00 hours.
****At the airport, 23.00 hours.*****
Heero got in the yet while a few nurses where still chancing him. "I'm not responsible for the consequences Mr. Yuy!" Heero ignored the babbling lady. "You should be in bed resting! That wound isn't fully healed yet! You could seriously hurt yourself."
"Lady, you're talking to a wall here. You better give up." Duo said to the nurse. She turned and glared at Duo, he glared back and easily won the battle.
The nurse made her way out of the yet, before she exited she shouted towards Heero. "Don't come crying to me when you get hurt! I warned you!"
"Don't worry he won't." Quatra replied with a smile brighter then the sunlight. The nurse didn't get the hidden message but the pilots did. Duo couldn't hardly hold his laughter while the plane was getting ready to go.
Once again Heero found himself in a difficult position. He wanted to be in Africa so badly, and the plane did not go fast enough. But he had to forcer himself to rest. It would take 10 hours until they reached Africa. So all he could do was wait until they would touch down on African soil.
He closed his eyes and let long awaited sleep take over.
