Perfect Child
I am suffocating
Too many words
Too many voices
It all resonates inside my head
The echoes of conflicting advice
Verbal navigation in opposite directions
I can not shut them out
Though it is not in my nature to object
I am choking on these good intentions
Drowning in this sea of supposed guidance
My life is not theirs to live
I will claim my mistakes as my own
Still they pull in so many directions
I am ripping apart at the seams
My voice longs to speak
Though it has never been heard
They do not see me for what I am
And I am more than what they perceive
I do not need to honor their grudges
My choices will not be made for me
I am not a creature to be molded
I know my mind
I know my heart
Cherishing the flame that empowers me
Should it die under their tender care
Freedom must be found
This is the golden solitude that I crave
Yet through it all I am bound
With only a whisper of reasoning reminding me
They will see that I am not the perfect child
A.N.- I know that my parents and my friends mean well when they tell me how I should do things and who I should it with but there comes a time whan all their voices meld into this monotony of noise that makes me want to scream. I am not them. I am me.

Perfect Child (poem)
Do not measure life by the number of breaths you take but rather by the moments that take your breath away.
Some things belong on paper, others in life. It's a blessed fool who can't tell the difference. - Madeleine "Quills"

THAT I can relate to. Very poignant and strong. I couldn't have done any better (as if I could do half as well)!
Great job as always, Lara!

This is kind of like a problem that another friend of mine is having, and I tell her, over and over again, ...
TO TELL THEM OFF!!! even if it means that it hurts their feelings...
Lara,...don't let anyone push you around.
Be free.

I believe in myth and legend, not the reality of war.
Anomynous: Anybody got a carrot? A cookie? Gingersnap?! ...I''m in trouble.
Horse: Feed me now, and I will not shit in your window.
