Inevitably Predictable [5/?]

Well, folks, the story is slowly coming to an end. I predict, at the most 4 chapters, probably 3, and maybe an epilogue, if deemed necessary. Thanks again to everyone who reads, and *special thanks* to those who review. (Miss Relena, dark-angel, Sphinx, Kanya Barton---your posts make my day!) It means a lot to know that you guys are reading the story, and it isn?t me, being obsessive, and checking the post fifty times a day. =)

Sorry, this took so long to get out and be posted. November was a busy month?birthday celebrations abound (including mine! I?m legal! I can rent hotel rooms! woo!)?papers, papers, papers?and lovely tests to round it all out. The next chapter shall be posted shortly (as in a week), for it just needs some seriously editing. I did promise that I would finish this story in December. And I do promise to uphold it.


AN: In case any confusion abounds, here is the scoop of connecting all the chapters. Remember Chapter 4 is the real beginning of this story, chronologically in time. So, this chapter concludes that night as well as lead to the next day. To clarify even more, then this chapter would go into Chapter 1, and all of those flashbacks would connect to the end of this chapter. Thus, here is the order, in chronologically time:

Chapter 4 --> Chapter 5 --> Chapter 1 ---> Chapter 2 ---> Chapter 3

So, when this chapter ends, Chapter 6 picks up from the cliffhanger of Chapter 3. (Chapter 3 is when Kagome emerges from the well in present day Japan, and Inuyasha is waiting for her.) Yes?sorry for the confusion of all the flashbacks! I had trouble as well, remembering what the hell I did. =) If this still confused anyone, just send me an email or a PM.

Chapter 5-- Complications



Seeing Inuyasha?s eyes flicker, Kagome quickly pulled her head away. The two engaged into a staring contest. Kagome bit her lip, as she desperately wanted to close her eyes and pretend nothing happened; yet, she was drawn to the unreadable expression in the half demon?s eyes, and thus, she could not tear her eyes away. Although the two had only been looking at each other for only five seconds, the tension fettered time to a standstill.

Swallowing nervously, the nervous girl stammered out an apology, ?Inuyasha-a-a.... I?m?whoah.?

POUNCE.

Rolling onto his right side, the half demon with his left hand had roughly yanked Kagome towards him. His weight on top of her, he gazed into her eyes with a smoldering look.

Her eyes questioning Inuyasha?s rash movement, Kagome was about to open her mouth again, when she felt a pair of warm lips capture hers.

The girl, even more confused by the consecutive pouncings, moved her right arm from the half-demon?s waist to his chest. She motioned to push the demon away and protest the actions, when her fingers came into contact with the half demon?s warm skin. During the course of the night, Inuyasha?s kimono had come slightly undone, and his chest was now slightly exposed. Liking the feel of the contact between her fingers and his skin, Kagome splayed her fingers across his chest. Inspired by this boldness, Kagome began to kiss Inuyasha back.

With her fervent response, Inuyasha deepened the kiss and infused his breath with all the pent up passion he had been feeling for her, but never knew how to express. Encouraged by the girl?s itching fingers, Inuyasha squished Kagome even closer to him, so their bodies were now fused.

Gasping at the closeness of their bodies, Kagome pulled her lips slightly away, to catch her breath. Her fingers were now vibrating, as the half demon was giving off a low and husky chuckle. ?C?mon, it was only fair. If you get to touch me, I get to touch you,? the half demon looked down at Kagome, with a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.

Narrowing her brow, Kagome stared back at the half demon with feign anger. She grinned conspiratorially as a thought came into her mind. ?Touch?,? she replied, as she took her index finger and started to poke Inuyasha in the side. Immediately, the half demon clutched his side and twisted his body away. Giving a little giggle, the girl then tickled the half demon again, who promptly jerked away from the invading finger. Her body racked with laughter, Kagome continued to tickle her victim.

But, her victim soon decided to torture the owner of the finger. Lacing her fingers with his, Inuyasha bent down and reclaimed Kagome?s lips, her laughter now overcome with passion.

Sunlight streamed into the window, giving the room a golden afterglow. Slowly opening his eyes at the new warmth, Inuyasha looked down at the sleeping figure, cuddling against him. Stroking her hair with his hand, he tucked a loose strand behind her ear. He then cupped his hand around the girl?s face, framing her cheek. Lastly, he traced the girl?s lips with his finger, bringing his finger around to caress her cheek. With a sigh, the half-demon very gently lifted Kagome off him, taking care not to disturb her sleep nor injure her shoulder. Free from the girl?s weight, Inuyasha tiptoed out of the room.

Stretching out his limbs, Inuyasha relived last night?s events in his mind. He felt a wicked grin form upon his face. Lost in his thoughts, the half-demon didn?t even notice that Miroku was up and studying the love sick dog with great intent and interest.

?Soooooo, how?s Kagome?? the monk innocently asked his daydreaming friend.

?What??? Inuyasha snapped out of his trance. ?She?s fine. The injury wasn?t that serious.?

?So, I can go see her, then??

?NO!? standing in front of Miroku, Inuyasha glared down at him. ?Let her sleep.?

Raising an eyebrow at Inuyasha?s over protectedness, the monk mused, ?Someone?s a little possessive this morning. You won?t let us help you bandage Kagome?s wounds; you spend all night with her; and now, you won?t even let anyone see her this morning.? Pouting, the monk continued, ?So, when will the kids be born??

?WHAT!??

Sighing, the monk shook his head at his prot?g?, ?You know, Inuyasha. It?s a fact of life. You??

Miroku never finished his sentence, for Inuyasha threw a menacing look towards his way.
?Just let her sleep, alright? I don?t feel like having to deal with you this morning.? With that, Inuyasha walked out of the house.

Grinning from ear to ear, the monk replied, ?Sure thing, Inuyasha, sure thing.?

Sliding the door open, a head peaked around the corner, softly calling, ?Kagome??

The girl lifted her head up. ?Oh, hi Sango!?

The demon hunter smiled and walked over to sit beside the injured girl. ?How are you feeling??

?I?m good! My shoulder still stings a bit, but it looks like it?ll heal in a couple of days.?

?Inuyasha did a good job of making you feel better, didn?t he?? Sango inspected Kagome?s shoulder.

Blushing, the girl hesitated to answer, when she realized that Sango didn?t mean the question to have the double meaning. She was about to answer, when Sango looked at Kagome with a slight twinkle in her eye.

?I?ll take that as a yes?on both accounts.? The cheeky demon-hunter winked at the flustered girl. ?C?mon, Kagome. It?s time to get going. I?ll help you pack.? The two girls let a giggle escape from their lips, as they packed Kagome?s things.

On the road, Kagome, Shippou, and Sango walked behind Inuyasha and Miroku. The two men appeared to be in a heated conversation, so the rest of the gang walked a few feet behind. Conversing in light talk, both Kagome and Sango tried to swerve around Shippou?s questions.

?Did Inuyasha make a move on you, Kagome?? I know he did! I can see you?re blushing!!? The little fox clasped his hands and jumped up and down excitedly.

?Now, Shippou. Kagome?s flush is probably from exhaustion. She is pushing up that bike with one good shoulder.? The demon hunter reasoned.

?Oh! I know something?s up! How come Inuyasha isn?t walking with you, though, Kagome?? Shippou kept persisting with his questions.

At this question, Kagome was at a loss. Why wasn?t Inuyasha walking with her? In fact, Inuyasha hadn?t said a word to her at all that morning. Frowning, Kagome tried to come up any reasons as to why Inuyasha was ignoring her. But, trying to probe the mind of any male, let alone understanding what goes on in there, was impossible. And trying to figure out Inuyasha?you?d be better off betting that Miroku would never grope anyone again before the mind of Inuyasha would be solved.

Lost in her thought, the girl suddenly sensed a light coming from behind. ?JEWEL SHARD!?

Both Inuyasha and Miroku immediately turned around. Sure enough, there was some sort of vulture like monster soaring towards Kagome and Sango. ?WATCH OUT!? both men called.

Brandishing her boomerang, Sango threw her weapon at the vulcan monster. However, the vulcan monster swerved and dodged the boomerang.

?Damnit!? The demon hunter swore.

Sango?s attempt wasn?t in vain. The monster had to retreat a bit in order to avoid the oncoming attack. That lapse in time gave Inuyasha the time to leap in the air and prepare his claws to slice the impudent demon in half. As soon as he was in the air, the half-demon readied his claws, when the vulcan demon opened its beak and released a slew of daggers.

?Youch!? Inuyasha went down as a couple of daggers nicked him.

Miroku stood his ground, racking his brain for ideas. ?I can?t suck him into my hand because we need to get the jewel shard out. What are we going to do??

As all the attempts of offense were going on, Kagome was formulating a plan of her own. Gingerly steadying her bow, Kagome got Shippou to pull out an arrow for her. Praying her aim had improved immensely, the girl pulled back the arrow, biting her lip from the piercing pain, and let go.

Whooooooooooooooooosh! flew the arrow.

?BRAWKKKK!? The arrow had its mark perfectly! The demon vanished instantly, and all was left was the jewel shard.

The victorious girl collapsed as she grasped her shoulder.

Stirring slowly, Kagome flickered her eyes to see the brilliant colors of the sun setting against the indigo blue sky. She saw a patch of red before her. Rubbing her eyes, she softly called, ?Inuyasha??

?Yeah?? he barked as he turned around to face her. ?Are you okay??

?Yeah.. I?m alright. Just more tired than I thought.? the girl answered.

?Well, let?s go. It isn?t safe to be resting here. There are a lot of demons in this area,? Inuyasha made a move to get up, but stopped when he felt a tug on his sleeve. Perking his ears in annoyance, he readied to tell Kagome off, but he hesitated when he saw the pleading look on her face.

?Inuyasha.. why have you been avoiding me?? Kagome asked him.

?I?m not avoiding you! I?m just??

?You?re just what, then? How can you pretend what happened between us??

?I?m not pretending! I just?augh! We gotta go. I don?t have time to deal with this.? Inuyasha shrugged the hand off his arm and stalked off.

The poor girl was left at a loss of words. She could feel tears swelling in the corners of her eyes. She blinked, as a lone tear trailed down her cheek. Quickly, she wiped the oncoming tears as she heard the patter of Shippou coming near. Putting on a bright smile, Kagome cheerfully called out, ?Were you sent to make sure I was ready to go??

?Are you alright, Kagome? We sure were worried about you! Especially, Inuyasha. We thought you were a goner!? the little demon concernedly asked.

?Oh! I?m fine! No need for you guys to worry. I just overexerted myself. Can you help me with my stuff?? As Shippou bounced around, packing Kagome?s stuff and getting her bike ready, Kagome closed her eyes and inhaled. She slowly exhaled and resolved not to think about that half-demon until later tonight, when she could be alone with her thoughts.

Maybe when I'm 60, I'll write a lemon... you can wait, oh about 39 years for that, right? ;D I will finish this baby as fast as I can! The next chapter should be out next week, probably on Sunday. I just need to write in a certain scene. Not lemon, sorry. ;D Thanks for posting. =)

Ummm....next time, there will be no kimono at all, right? Right!?! I mean, what's the use anyway? There didn't seem to be any threat...unless he wanted the firerat's protection from the burning passion they ignited. Woo woo! (It was probably hot in therre)!

Yay! Another chapter...I really need to get on here more often! However, school's been crazy, my newspaper teacher is on my case, I was sick with the flu, and I have to actually write a short story for my Enlish class. I CAN'T write short stories...I don't have the talent to condense everything into a 4-6 page limit!!! Argh, anyways, I can understand that your next chapters will be coming out later than expected due to finals...ours are coming up too. Just make sure that the next ones are just as good as this one!
