Well hello...I'm experimenting with a few shorts to inspire me to write a nice, long fic... Tell me what you think. Ideas are appreciated. *grins* Ohh yea, and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! I do believe I gained 10 pounds...^^;;

Heero watched the dancing couples in the middle of the ballroom, his eyes trailing a pretty little blonde twirling in the arms of a man in blue.
?Pretty, isn?t she, that Peacecraft girl?? someone at his ear muttered, the voice coy and cocky.
Heero glanced over his shoulder at his friend Duo, his eyes a steely blue. ?I suppose,? he answered, his shrug, indifferent.
Duo smirked and raised an eyebrow. ?Indeed. What?s her name? I?ve forgotten. Regina, I suppose. Starts with an ?R?, I?m certain of that much. Ramona.?
?Relena,? Heero corrected him instantly. Almost as quick, however, his face colored and he lowered his face as an attempt to make his hair cover his tinted cheeks.
Duo?s smirk grew wider and his eyebrow rose higher. ?Relena, then, if you like.? Then, he sniffed as he watched a taller, blonde-haired man abruptly cut between the young man and the blonde girl. ?Bully for you! Milliardo Peacecraft?s quite overprotective, isn?t he??
?Quite,? Heero muttered under his breath.
?I suppose he?s got every reason to,? Duo said as he watched the poor young man walk away hastily from the glaring form of the older Peacecraft. ?Their family?s one of the richest on the continent. She?ll have to be wed to one as rich as her, if not richer.?
?We?re at her level.? Another indifferent shrug.
?Hm. I hear Quatre Winner is after her hand.?
Heero turned sharply to his friend, his reaction almost too fast to be casual. ?Quatre Winner? As in the heir of Winner Estates??
Duo puffed out his cheeks slightly, a vain attempt to keep from laughing. ?The one and only.?
Heero turned his eyes back to the dance floor, a frown on his face.
?Then again, he?s one of many suitors,? Duo added as his eyes casually trailed the trim of the intricately painted ceiling above. ?James Keincaid is one. Erich Ivanoveich (you know, my Hilde?s idiot of a cousin) is another.? Duo grinned as his companion?s eyes began to darken. After waiting a moment, Duo said, casually, ?She refused both.?
Heero?s eyebrows rose.
?Oh yes,? Duo nodded, quite enjoying himself. ?As you know, they?re both stuck up a**es. This girl is smart; I heard she looks for personality, not just riches. Nice girl. Her brother has the same thoughts; wouldn?t let prissy, money-hungry men near her. I don?t know how Keincaid got so far. But Erich, I?m sure, used his cousin Lucrezia to get to her. She and Milliardo fancy each other, you know. Huh. She?s graceful, isn?t she, that Relena? Maybe I?ll court her.?
?You have Hilde!?
Duo tilted his head. ?So I do. Go on, then, one of us should ask her to dance.?
Heero blinked, then started when Duo impatiently shoved him in the shoulder. ?Go on, already, you large oaf! Really, the things I have to do to get you to dance with a pretty girl.?
Heero straightened up his suit and stiffly walked onto the dance floor.
?Grace, Yuy, grace!? his friend?s voice yelled after him.
Immediately Heero lightened his step and approached the older Peacecraft and his sister. As Duo watched, his companion?s hand rose to tap the taller man on the shoulder. Milliardo Peacecraft turned, a glare in his ice-blue eyes. Words were exchanged, and eventually Milliardo Peacecraft approved of the younger man enough to let Heero take his blushing sister from his arms.
Duo watched, smirking ever so slightly, as the couple danced. Their eyes locked, and their fingers entwined. The girl?s cheeks were a flushed pink as Heero held her tight around the waist.
?You are quite a manipulator.?
Duo turned to a short-haired brunette as his side and took her hand. ?My specialty, dearest.?
?They?re quite a pair,? Hilde murmured. ?Relena and I are good friends. She?s a sweet girl.? Then, mischievously, she added, ?I?d give them a year. Then they?ll wed.?
Duo shook his head, his face a mask of mock solemnity. ?At the end of one year, darling, they?ll be expecting a child. Six months, if not less, they will wed. Right after our wedding, I?m guessing.?
They both laughed heartily as the couple on the dance floor continued to dance, oblivious to everything but the endless pools of blue in the other?s eyes.
