Becoming - Chapter 2: The Call

This chapter is part of a flashback sequence.
Also, I came across a website that I can't remember the address for that has the magna scanned for Endless Waltz. Anyway, according to it Heero didn't leave, he stayed. I'm going off this. I'll try to find the site and post it for all of you who want to see a cute picture of Secret Service Heero dressed in a black suit, and another of him and Relena together on top of a picture of the Earth.

Chapter 2:

The door burst open in the office of the large mansion as Hilde burst through. She had a huge smile on her face. Following Hilde was Duo, Quatre, and Dorothy.

"Relena, We are so happy for you" Hilde exclaimed.

A chorus of "Congratulations" were heard from all of them, each wearing huge smiles.

"Oh Miss Relena," Dorothy said sweetly clasping her hands together, "I hope that we are the first ones to congratulate you on your victory!"

"My victory?" a confused Relena asked.

"Don't you remember what today is Miss Relena?" asked Dorothy.

"Oh the election. I totally forgot. Did I win a spot to run?"

"You won by a landslide!" Duo joyfully replied.

"Oh, that's wonderful" Relena said tiredly.

"Relena, is something wrong?" Quatre asked, but before she could answer, the buzz of Relena's intercom interrupted whatever answer she had.

"Relena, your brother is on the line. He said it had something to do with your mother."

"Yes, I was expecting his call, thank you Louise."

Relena then turned to her guests, "Would you mind leaving me for a few minutes. My mother is terribly ill and I know Millardo will be wanting to discuss medical treatment options with me."

The group stunned, nodded yes and slowly turned to walk out the door.

"Thanks guys. If you want to hang out for a little bit, I should be off the phone. Duo, and Quatre, Heero should be in the next office. I'm sure he'd like to see you, too."

Quatre, Duo, Hilde, and Dorothy exited the room and softly closed the door behind them.

Relena sighed and picked up the phone. "Hi Millardo, how is she?"

Millardo, "It's not good Relena. You may want to come see her soon."

"That bad huh?"

"Yes."

"I know she's not your mother, but I appreciate you checking on her. I'll be on the next flight."

"She took care of you all those years. I owe her for that. I already called Noin and Une and got a flight secured for you."

"Thanks."

"Oh, and Relena"

"Hmm, Yes Millardo?"

"Bring a bodyguard."

Relena hung up the phone and sat down at her desk. She placed her hands in her face dejectedly and began softly crying. 'I've been so busy trying to maintain peace that I haven't spent the time that I needed to with my mother. And now she is dying. Please forgive me mother.'

Relena looked up to find her bodyguard staring at her. Although she was embarrassed to have him see her cry, she was thankful he was there. She needed his strength now just as much as she needed it in the past. After the incident in A.C. 196, she thought he'd disappear like he always had in the past. But he'd stayed and promised to protect her in the public, not the shadows. Relena gave Heero the office next to hers because it adjoined hers and, as Heero said, gave her the best possible security because only a select few new about the secret door between the offices.

Heero walked over to Relena and wiped the tears off her face.

"Your flight is soon Relena, lets get you packed and ready."

She looked at him confused. How did he know about her conversation with Millardo?

He answered her unasked question, "Your brother called me."

"Oh? she said, and then asked, ?Where are the others??

?Duo decided he needed to snack. They?ll understand. Let's go."

At his request, Relena rose and began to walk to the office door. Then another thought crossed her mind, "Why did Millardo call you?"

"Because he wanted to make sure you had security this time."

A small smile appeared on Relena's face at that comment. Millardo had scolded her several times for jumping into situations without security and being too trusting.

"All right, I just need to pack a few things. Tell me, who is my guard this time?" The thought of a poor guard having to stay nearby her why she visited her mother at the hospital made Relena sad. It also meant that she couldn't act how she truly felt because she didn't want to embarrass herself in front of someone who didn't know her. With the upcoming election, she had to be careful with her image.

"Me" Heero's firm voice replied.

Relena gratefully smiled, which was all the thanks the bodyguard needed.
