(Poem) Set Me Free

Okay... Technically, I shouldn't be posting this because it's going to be used in one of my fics, but I figure what the heck. It wouldn't hurt to post it and see what people think of it. This is from Relena's point of view and takes place during AC 201 while she's still in office. Enjoy!

Set Me Free

Someone come set me free
Let me live my dreams
I?m trapped within a gilded cage
And I can?t get out

Trapped by my obligation
Trapped by the world

Set me free of my obligations
I?ve done all that?s needed to be done
Peace isn?t just an ideal now
It?s a reality
But they just won?t let me go

I?m just their figurehead
With no voice of my own
If I tried to speak out
About my wants
About my needs
They wouldn?t listen
My voice just falls on deaf ears

Won?t someone come to set me free?

I?m just the personification of their ideal
I?m not a twenty-one year old woman
With dreams
With desires
I can?t do anything against their will
They would turn against me

I?m trapped within their spell

I?m bound to my obligations
But I need to be set free
I?ve done my duty
I?ve done my job
I?ve worked hard to give them their peace
And it?s their turn to give me mine

Why won?t someone set me free?

I like it! It's a nice view of Relena's thoughts, and I think it sounds like something she'd say.
My favorite lines are:

I’ve worked hard to give them their peace
And it’s their turn to give me mine

Lovely! Can't wait to read the fic it comes from!

*blush* Thank you. Yes, I have written poems before. I have two other poems archived on this forum, and several others on the original fiction forum.

Aw, that was a very nice poem! Heero better be the one to set her free! I liked hearing her emotions first hand. People expect way too much from Relena, she has given the people so much, but gets nothing in return. I'd be fed up after a while too! Keep up the great work and I can't wait for more fics and poems from you! Hint, hint update your other fics!

I must agree with everyone that has replied so far. The poem was simple, but its simplicty supplied its power and literary distinction. I can imagine her feeling those things... just her unguarded, rooted feelings. A simplistic, heart-felt wish denied to her. Very nice!
