Healing: Chapter 14/?

Chapter 14: Healing

A/N: Standard warnings: 1xR, OCxR, 2xH.

Hugh wasn't sure exactly how he had managed to escape, but the important thing was somehow he made it. He had started to slip past the guard and sneak out when he realized that he needed a disguise. So, instead he knocked out the sleeping guard, switched clothes with him, pulled his had low, and casually slipped out a side door. Showy exits were annoying to him and would cause them to notice his exit much sooner.

From there it became much more difficult as he didn't have very much money on him and could not use any kind of credit card, as he knew his mother would look there first to track him down. Now looking back, he snickered at himself, I guess she already knew where I was going, it was just a matter of finding me before I got there.

Looking at the large but non-descript building before him, he gave a silent sigh of relief as he had finally, and safely, made it to his destination. The Preveneters? Headquarters. Now it was just a matter of getting inside. Would there be anyone to let him in at night he wondered, trying to check out his options.

Straight ahead of him was the entrance which looked locked for the night. On the east side of the building looked to be a few steps, which he gathered from the glow the street lights provided, was a secondary entrance. Better to try there, he reasoned.

He made his way around to the entrance and found the door was unlocked. Letting himself inside, he looked around the building waiting for an officer or a guard of some kind to acknowledge him. Finding none, he decided to wander down the hall.

He had thought about going to Relena's home first, but considering the time of night, he decided it wasn't a good idea. Besides, it would be better if he didn't see her yet. Sure he wanted to again soon, but it was important to him to first ensure her safety. He really didn't want her to know about this either, he loved her enough to let her go and didn't want her feeling obligated to him because he had lost the respect of his last remaining relative, his mother, to help her. It wouldn't be right. If she fell for him the way he wanted her to, he knew she would first have to deal with that other guy, Heero Yuy. He wanted her to fall for him because they belonged together and she felt the same way as he did. No other reason was acceptable to him.

And if she didn't...if she couldn't love him that way, at least he did all he could for such a wonderful person. He felt he owed her that much.

The floor made a slight noise as he walked. It seemed eerie to him as the halls appeared to be empty. It was funny, he reasoned. Here was his family going after Relena, and here was the building of the people who protected her - more accessible than her. He shook his head at the irony of it all, they should have started here, not immediately trying to get to her.

He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn't notice a young guard creeping up on him. A slight creak alerted him. Could it be his mother's assassins looking for him? He pulled his gun out and whipped around, ready to protect himself.

Slowly he felt something hit his gun and then a body collapse to the floor beneath him. He crouched to the ground and noted the uniform. It was a preventer! He had knocked out a preventer.

"Shit!"

Before he could stand a voice said, "Puts your hands up, you are now under arrest..."

Hugh groaned at his luck. Perhaps it would have been better to have gone to Relena first....

The next morning....

Hugh awoke to hear voices and footsteps heading his way. He was in a large holding room with empty concrete walls. The room itself was empty save the cell he sat in. The small bench and cot weren't very good for sleeping. Hugh rubbed his arm which had fallen asleep from the positions he slept in.

Groaning, Hugh shook his head, wishing he had thought before he entered with the enemy's uniform. It definitely made his argument to the guard much more difficult. An argument that he lost, which was why he was in this jail cell.

"You discovered him last night," one deep and quiet voice asked. For some reason, this voice tugged on Hugh's memory - it was someone he knew, but who?

"Yes," said another male voice. Hugh mentally nodded in recognition, that was the guard that had arrested him last night.

"Why didn't you contact me immediately?" the first voice asked without any trace of sternness, yet it was clearly a serious question.

"I-I-I didn't think it was that important sir," the guard stammered.

"I see," said the first voice.

"Next time," a third voice said, "When you find an enemy creeping around here, let someone know, okay man." This voice was friendly but slightly held a mocking tone.

"Okay," the guard lightly said with some shame.

"Hey, its okay," the third voice said, "Trowa checked on her last night, I checked on her this morning. Just be more careful next time."

"Okay," the guard said again his voice lightening as neither of the men scolded him.

'Trowa,' Hugh thought, 'That's got to be the Trowa from my ship. That was his voice I heard.'

Hugh straightened in his jail cell as three pairs of footsteps stopped at his cell. Looking up, he found the guard, another man with a long brown braid hanging down his back, and the green piercing eyes of Trowa Barton starring at him.

The guard's eyes suddenly opened wide as Trowa opened the cell and let the prisoner free. "But sir, he knocked out one of our guards."

Without even looking at the guard Trowa questioned, "Where did that happen again?"

"In hall three, sir," the guard said automatically.

The man with the long braid crossed his arms. "And just HOW did he get all the way to hall three with two of you on duty and the doors locked?"

"Well sir, Manny, the other guard on duty last night, was taking a nap you see, and I had to check outside, sir. So, I, um..."

"Left the door unlocked and let Manny sleep," Trowa finished for him.

"Yes." The guard's shoulder slumped.

"This man is here to help us," Trowa turned to Hugh, "Aren't you?"

"Good to see you Trowa," Hugh grinned, "Good to see you."

"So you're Hugh," Duo guessed, "I'm Duo. We have a lot of questions that you might be able to answer for us, if you'd be so kind to help us, that is."

"Of course, just lead the way."

Trowa led Hugh and Duo to his office, stopping to check to see if he wanted anything to eat or drink.

"Coffee would be great," Hugh said thankfully, running a hand through his messy hair.

"Sure. I'll get you some. You stay here, I need to go get Heero, Quatre, Wufei, and Une."

"Okay," Hugh automatically replied. It wasn't until a full minute later that it registered just who was coming to Trowa's office - Heero - he must have meant Heero Yuy... He was finally get to meet him.

Leaning forward in anticipation, he heard the door behind him open slightly as Duo returned with his donut and coffee. He shrugged and grinned slightly with an apology as Hugh sputtered with the first sip of coffee.

"And I thought the coffee the crew made was bad," Hugh bantered.

The office door opened again as Trowa stepped in, followed by an oriental man, who he reasoned must be Wufei, a pretty young woman with dark brown hair, who of course was Lady Une, and Jeremy, whose hair was slightly longer than how he wore it on the boat. Jeremy leaned against the corner of the room, arms crossed, and looked down at the floor.

"Hi Jeremy," Hugh smiled, "Thank you again for getting her off that ship for me. Trowa didn't tell me you were going to be here." Turning back to Trowa, "When will the others be here?"

"Well, Quatre's on guard detail with Relena."

Hugh couldn't help himself - he had to know. "And Heero?"

Everyone in the office but Hugh looked up confused, then all eyes went to Jeremy who was still leaning in a corner of the office.

Jeremy lifted his head, blue eyes sparkling. "Name's Heero Yuy."

"Your... Your Heero Yuy!" Hugh sputtered.

Heero shook his head once and turned to Trowa and Lady Une. "Let's get this meeting underway," he commanded.

I agree with Bluefire. We've been waiting long enough.

Relena: *embarrassed* And there I was, admiring his blue eyes and all along....
Heero: I can be Jeremy if you like.
Relena: *blushes* But didn't we...?
Heero: *smirks*
Relena: I can't believe I didn't know!!! Weren't you going to tell me?
Heero: *chuckles* No. I figured it'd be that much more fun to seduce you next time. Since I already know your weaknesses.
Relena: O_O;;;;

ANGEL!!! You didn't tell us that Jeremy and Relena were getting it on in the boat!!!!

Rose
