Since this is the only sub-story of my massive saga "My Favorite Mistake" that doesn't contain yaoi of any sort within the story, and it can stand rather well on its own, I wanted to post it here. Eventual 1xH. Warnings include references to drugs, alcohol, and so forth. And the boys aren't sqeeky clean in this one either.
Takes place roughly a year after Heero and Duo's father dies, and yes, they are half brothers (See the prologue to "My Favorite Mistake" to get a better idea of what happens with that.)
It's Not Like It's Love
Chapter 1

Part of the 'My Favorite Mistake' Arc
Warnings: References to drugs, sex, drinking, and poor living. Cursing.
Notes: The second couple story that budded from the 'My Favorite Mistake' Storyline. Takes place a year after the prologue of 'My Favorite Mistake', so it would be a year after Heero and Duo's father died. If you haven't read 'My Favorite Mistake' yet, I would suggest you do so before going on with this. However, I suppose it could stand alone. The ages are as follows:
Duo:17
Heero:18
Duo entered the smoke-filled room with minor caution despite the endless numbers of bodies tangled within each other or lying motionless. The loud music pulsated in his ears, making his eardrums ache in protest, while his violet eyes squinted against the harsh flashing of the moving lights. The stench of sweat and weed filled the room and overpowered the senses. To any normal citizen, the scene defined chaos. To Duo, the place welcomed him;this was his territory.
He continued through the throng of people until he came to the back corner of the large club, where his group of friends were usually situated. As expected, three young men sat in a small circle, taking turns at a blunt before passing it to the next person. One of the three noticed Duo walking up, and soon all three acknowledged his arrival.
"'Bout time, Duo. I didn't think you'd show," The leanest of the three said while he offered their joint to him.
"Pass," Duo said, shooing away the offer. "Sorry I'm late, got caught up with some chick in the parking lot."
"Figures," The dark-haired one, Sean, joined in on ribbing his friend.
"Hey, what can I say, the women love me."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever you say, Don Juan. Hey, we're going to John's tomorrow--he's supposed to have some really good stuff. You up to it?"
Duo shook his head in rejection. "Not my thing, you guys should know that by now. I think all that shit's making you too forgetful...you should lay off a little."
"Well then tell Heero to join us, he'd appreciate it."
"Sure, I'll mention it to him," Duo lied, looking around for his escape. The fumes of the weed and the stupefied expressions on his friends faces were grating on his nerves. Thankfully, he found an interesting subject and pointed her out to the three sitting below him.
"I'm going to try my luck out, see you guys later." They waved him off and wished him luck, then returned to their state of mindlessness. Meanwhile, Duo tried his hardest to maneuver around the masses of bodies, most of them already on the floor, and denied himself the pleasure of spitting on them. For some reason, drugs had never held any interest for him, and he abhorred having to watch all the people around him waste away using them. However, he still came to the clubs whenever possible, if only to be able to satisfy his own addiction.
"Hey Lovely, you new here?" The young girl, perhaps fifteen or sixteen, turned to face him. Her ebony hair surrounded her pale face like a massive thunder cloud, and her green eyes blinked in surprise at the intruder. She looked exotic, and Duo knew he had scored himself an interesting night by the way she returned his grin. (A.N.-No, this girl isn't supposed to be Hilde. Sorry for the confusion. -_-)
"You could say that," she replied, all the while eyeing him like her prey.
"Well then, I should introduce myself. I'm Duo..been around here for awhile, so I can tell you who to watch out for." He winked at her suggestively, and she smiled.
"I..."
Her name was lost in the music that blared from the speakers a few feet away from them, but Duo didn't bother to ask for a repeat. He didn't care for or need names, nor would he ever. He was never able remember their names or their faces, and he was sure they didn't either. All that mattered was the satisfaction.
"So, you feel up to getting out of here?"
She nodded, and Duo grinned; he hadn't even been there a half an hour and already scored. Of course, he could have left with someone even earlier, but the girl in the parking lot was a bit too young and shy for his liking. Virginal nerves were definitely not a desirable trait to him.
He quickly called a cab for his conquest of the night and himself, since his ride was not yet ready to leave. The ride back to Duo's place was silent with the exception of the sounds of shuffling and necking that he was sure the driver didn't appreciate.
Finally they arrived to the hell hole that him and his brother called home: a small one-bedroom apartment in the slums downtown Wabasso, Florida*. Since his father's death a year earlier, Heero and himself had somehow managed to make payments for the little shithole of a dwelling, some good running water, and for decent clothes. A small portion of their hard-earned cash also went to complete crap, such as the fast food they ate everyday and the drinks that sat in the cooler in the corner of what shouldn't even be called a kitchen. However, the largest amount of their money was wasted on both their boos and Heero's on again, off again drug addiction, and it always left them struggling towards the end of the month to make the bills on time. They didn't even have electricity in the apartment, but it wasn't a necessity for them. Duo was barely home between high school, work, and then off to have some fun for a few hours, while Heero was either working or passed out on the couch drunk or high.
Duo entered the barely lit apartment, shifting the nameless girl to his side. He was unsure where Heero would be or what his state of mind would be, so he made sure to be quiet on his way to his room. Clothes and other items were thrown carelessly throughout the house, and it was only Duo's practice of maneuvering around the items that saved the two from tumbling over something and onto the floor. They reached his room without any sight of Heero, and Duo could only assume that he had gone out to get something to eat. Banishing all the negative thoughts of where his brother could be or what state he could be in, he focused fully on the girl in front of him, ready and willing to take him away from his personal prison, if only for a little while.
---------
"Checker cab company."
"Hey Louis, it's Duo. Can I have a cab over here?"
"Sure thing kiddo. Where's she going this time?"
Duo turned to the nameless girl, who was then pulling her shirt over her head. "Yo, where are you going?"
"361 Randall."
Duo repeated the information for Louis, and then hung up. He searched for his pants on the floor in the blackness of his room, while the girl said on his bed waiting for him to finish. He finally found them lying carelessly on top of his tiny, three drawer dresser, and fished his wallet out of it.
"Here," he told her, holding some cash out to her. "He said he'd be here in ten minutes, and the guy knows me so he'll be on time. C'mon, I'll walk you out."
He girl took the money greatfully, and then tugged lightly on his hand. "What's the rush? We have ten minutes...sit down."
Duo rolled his eyes. Why did women always want to play games? He regretting picking her up that night, that was for sure. Way too emotional for his liking--she kissed him on the lips too much. There was a thin line with him when it came to kissing and he hated when girl went over it. Despite his annoyance though, he sat down next to satisfy her need of closeness, and barely said a word when she automatically began kissing him again.
She must have felt the aggrivation flowing off of his body, because soon she changed her tactics from sweet to seductive. Duo growled, not bothering to hide that he was angry, when she nibbled at the sensitive spot at the base of his neck. More than anything else, he hated a cock tease.
"Tease," he scolded.
"Just giving you a small taste for next time," she replied, and then gave him a final kiss before finally allowing him to escort her out of his house. The cab was already waiting outside for its customer, and Duo paid the gruff-looking middle aged man in the front the money for the girl's ride.
Duo hadn't bothered to correct her, allowing her to believe that there would be a next time. He made sure there was never a second encounter with any of the girls he had sex with, and with good reason. He had learned in the past that even in a relationship based only on sex, women tended to believe that they became committed after a short time, and Duo Maxwell would commit to no one. He made sure of that by never sleeping with a girl more than once, not bothering with names, and always ensured that he didn't get them pregnant.
With the reminder, he returned to his room and scooped up the used condom and it's foil, and deposited it into the trash can. It was somewhat displeased with the events of the end of the night, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. However, thanks to the girl's idea of a joke, he was horny as hell again.
"Bitch," he cursed as he climbed into bed to see if maybe some sleep would solve his problem. Unfortunately, the sheets and pillow still held the scent of her perfume, and it only helped to worsen his condition. He laid in the vanilla scented bed for a few more minutes before giving up completely and throwing some clothes on. It looked as though he would be heading back to the club again to find a girl to stop the needing ache that would not let up until it was satisfied.
*-Though I know the place exists, I have no idea what Wabasso is like. My apologizes for making it seem like a slum if it isn't.
