The August night was tepid and clear, its breeze fluttering through the curtains of the hotel veranda. It was a beautiful evening, filled with happy anticipation.
It was the night before Vice Minister Relena Dorlain?s wedding to her Chief of Security, former Gundam pilot Heero Yuy.

And the bride simply couldn?t sleep.

Relena lay in the luxurious suite bed, staring out at the veranda. The bridegroom, of course, slept serenely beside her. It?s right that he should sleep, she thought, her body humming in satiated contentment at the thought. She was, after all, quite demanding.

But there was something on her mind, and Relena refused to lose any more sleep over it. She?d be damned if she showed up at her wedding tired and puffy-eyed.

Rolling over, she nudged her bed partner. ?Heero??

No response. She tried again. ?Heero??

This time, he cracked open his eyes. ?What?s the matter??

Relena decided to get straight to the point. ?Why don?t you call me by a pet name??

Heero blinked. ?Excuse me??

?A pet name,? she repeated.

?What?s a pet name??

?You know, like ?darling? or ?my dear?.?

His eyes narrowed. ?You want me to use a term of endearment??

?Yes!? she cried, relieved he understood. ?Exactly.?

There was a pause. Then,

?Absolutely not.?

Now it was Relena?s turn to blink. ?Why not??

A knowing smile graced Heero?s lips, an expression so achingly handsome Relena nearly forgot what they were discussing. Nearly.

?Well??

?You wouldn?t like it,? he said finally, draping an arm around her waist in an attempt to get her to lie down.

?I would,? Relena insisted stubbornly, sitting up.

Heero sighed. ?Do we have to discuss this right now??

"Yes. It?s the night before our wedding, Heero.?

?I?m aware of that-which is why you should be asleep.? He rolled over on his back, inviting her to lie down.

She shook her head. ?No. Why do you think I wouldn?t like it??

?Because,? he propped himself up on one elbow, taking a moment to enjoy the outline of her body against the bedcurtain. ?I know you well enough to know what you like, dearest.?

Relena wrinkled her nose. ?Don?t call me that.?

He raised his eyebrows in feigned ignorance. ?Don?t call you what??

?Dearest.?

?You wanted a pet name.?

?But not that one.?

?All right, darling.?

?Don?t call me darling.?

?Whatever you say, lover.? He rolled over, turning his back to hide his smile.

?Heero!? Relena admonished.

?Hm.?

She stretched out beside him and peeked over his shoulder. ?Can?t you use some other pet name??

?I refuse to call you an infant.?

?No,? she sighed. ?Just- a nice name.?

Heero?s eyes swirled in triumph- he knew he had won. In one swift motion, he turned around to face her, flipping her over to hold her back against him.

?Go to sleep. We?re getting married tomorrow, and you need to rest,? He kissed her temple.

?But- we still haven?t found a name.?

?We don?t have to. Now sleep,? he nuzzled her neck. ?I love you, Relena.?

A smile spread across her lips. ?I love that.?

?What?? he said into her hair, ever knowing.

?When you say my name,? Relena sighed, finally settling in. Heero held in the urge to chuckle- he knew Relena had found her ?pet name?.

I read this at ff.net & I couldn't help but to review here again! This is just pure cuteness! yep..I just never thought for them to have 'pet names' for each other, aside from their own names...and besides, I, personally don't want to be called something that a LOT of other ppl respond to..My name, alone, already has a lot of "owners"..what more, the words "darling" and "babe"..lol..

Great little fic here! Keep it up!
