Suggestions for good reading

Post by perfectpeach »

Hewwo =3

self explanatory really. Just out down the name of a manga that you enjoy but you think isn't that frequently read and boost its popularoty! There's nothing sadder, other than a colony of dying bunnies *has just watched watership down*, than a manga that isn't appreciated.

So come one! advertise your favourite lesser-known manga with a name and brief summary of the main plot, the genres, three good reasons and three bad.

It helps others who are incredibly stuck for a good read.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Example:
PhD, Phantasy Degree by Myung Jin-Lee
Fantasy, Adventure, Gender bender XD
A girl called Sang has arrived at the demon school Hades and she's looking for a ring that has been given to the Arch-demon's fiance, Notra the Succubus. But you can only enter the school if you are a demon which sang is not. So she encounters a group of demons who are skipping class and she gets a hawt vampire to bite her. Yay! She goes inside and gets to know eveyrone but there is a tragedy about to unfold! Gasp!
+ Totally unique plot with totally lovable and unique characters and a kick arse world! (i love the concept od different schools names after different greek gods)
+ Unlimited pairing possibilities that keep you well and truly gripped
+ Pretty pretty pretty drawing style!
- Characters you grow to love so much die...and then the next one you grow to like dies...
- Some of the dialogue can be a bit cliched but it has been toned down for a teenage audience
-As soon as you've found your 'perfect couple' something happens to make you rethink it. T.T
Example:
Ragnarok (can't remember author)
Fantasy, adventure, romance,
With a background of Norse mythology, Ragnarok is like Armageddon or the end of the world where the Gods go to war with each other. Fenris Fenrir, a reincarnation of the wolf-god, has been sent with super-sorcery powers in hand to find her fellow God, Balder who can help her prevent Ragnarok. He has been reincarnated in human form like her but she doesn't know who. On her quest to find him she is chased by the Valkyries who are on the bad side of the upcoming war working for the leader of the opposition the Godess Freya. Meanwhile, a man called Chaos is out and about hunting bounties with his apprentice Iris Irene. Having defeated their mark the go into town to collect the reward but it gets stolen but a cat-loving thief (who remind me of Rikku from FF10) and so they chase her to a blood-bath! If you're wondering where the romance comes in, its a Fenris-chaos-Iris love triangle. Yes, fenris is a girl.
+Based on Norse mythology it is fascinating and you can identify with the undertones in order to predict outcomes that just don't happen. the suspense!
+Like with PHD, very nice graphics, nothing disproportionate. The outfits rock too.
+ the love triangle is gripping, and if that doesn't keep you buying the rest of the series, then the question 'gasp, who are the other Valkyries?' does the trick every time.
-The text format is hard on the eyes.
- Even though many people die, there seems to be little emotion involved...
- it can randomly jump time periods or perspectives and can get confusing.
I have two, not necessesarily my favourites but they're not well known and are quite enjoyable:
I also have a 1+R, 2+H doujinshi
You can download these two from http://shoujo.bookish.net/
Title: Ijiwaru Shinaide
Mangaka: Aoki Kotomi
Genre: shoujo, romance, comedy
Scanlating groups: Perfect Illusions (scanlations complete)
Unlicensed in English, so you'll have to download the scanlations if you want to read it in English.
Synopsis: Mari has always dreamed of meeting her ideal "prince". "He must be tall and handsome. He must have long silky hair, easy enough to run your hands through it, and a sweet, yet very deep voice". Although, the one thing Mari fails to specify is his personality. After being "saved" from an embarrasing incident at school, Mari believes she has found her "prince". Later that day, Mari is awaiting the arrivial of Chiaki, the daughter of her father's collegue, who will be coming from Switzerland to stay with her family for a few months. To their surprise, Chiaki is actually a boy (with a very misleading name). And what's more, Chiaki is also the prince she met at school, and now, they'll be living together. Mari thought her dream had come true, until the two are left alone togther. He comments on Mari being loud and talkative, and reveals that he's not so charming. To make matters he steals Mari's first kiss.
+Gorgous artwork (and Chiaki is such a bishie)
+Quite a few amusing little plot twists
+Development of quite a strange, yet sweet relatonship.
-I thought it was too short (there were only 2 volumes)
-Mari doesn't really do much except freak out over Chiaki's actions
-There are a few things about Chiaki that were very annoying (but that is the charm of the story I guess, so maybe its not entirely a bad thing).
~~~~~~~~
The next one is a manhwa (a Korean manga)
Title: Vanilla Ice
Mankwa author: Kim Woo Hyun
Genre: soonjung (shoujo), romance, comedy, gender bender
Scanlating groups: Korean-Manhwa (volumes and scanlations ongoing)
Unlicensed in English, so you'll have to download the scanlations if you want to read it in English.

Synopsis (from Baka-Updates):
Beautiful, delicate Yoon Sul and tall, brawny Taehee are exact opposites, and yet somehow they can't escape each other! Action-packed romantic comedy with a twist!

I've only read the first few chapters but it's quite funny so far.

~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~
Finally, I found a scanlated Gundam W doujinshi I'd like to reccomend:

Title: Torikahebaya Story (A Tale of Mistaken Identity)
Doujinshi-ka:Momiji
Genre: comedy
Pairings: 1+R, 2+H (I think Duo and Hilde are married)

Synopsis: Hilde and Relena eat some magic candy which causes them to switch bodies. Relena goes out to find a cure. Meanwhile, Hilde must carry out Relena's duties as Vice Foreign minister and convince Heero that everything is "normal". Eventually Relena buys the cure, but it will only work on the condition that Relena and Hilde kiss. Unfortuantely, Heero and Duo walk in on them on that very moment.

+Really cute artwork (including a very confused chibi-Heero)
+Few additional comics at the end featuring Chibi-Relena, chibi-Duo and chibi-Hilde
+Really funny scenes e.g. when Hilde does impressions of Relena, and when a very worried Heero breaks down the door when Relena and Hilde don't answer. Oh, and on the last page chibi-Heero and chibi-Duo look really angry and start shouting at Relena and Hilde.

-The translation is a bit confusing in some places
-I wan't quite happy with the way Heero was drawn most of the time
-Some OOCness

I got the mangas from http://shoujo.bookish.net/

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the link where I dowloaded the Gundam Wing doujinshi from, on BI. Would I be allowed to PM the link to people instead? They mainly 2xH, but there is 1xR as well. There are a couple of English scanlations and there's some in original Japanese. I was so excited when I found June Bride, but it was in Japanese only. *I really wish I could read that sidestory about Heero and Relena's kids.*

just google 2xh doujinshi and the first thing you see is the site for that doujin. Hasn't been updated in ages and it has loads of broken links where the 1xr stuff is involved. But =3

They've actually moved to a new site which has been updated. They've changed their format so you don't view the induvidual pages in the galleries any more. You can download their doujin as zipped files instead (personally I think its better this way). I managed to find a complete 1xR doujinshi.

If you google 2xH addiction and click on the first link, there is a line at the top stating that their site is moving to a new address. If you click on that link, you'll be directed to their new site. You should find wht you want there.

They've also translated about four or five of the doujins into English
