All's fair in love and war [chapter 1]
Hi all! My first attempt at a fanfic. Hope you guys like. It's a romantic comedy, and will hopefully be long. (actually have to write it first! heh heh)
Special thanks to my lovely beta reader, DragonQueen. *hugs*
Oh, and I don't own anything.
All's fair in love and war: Chapter 1
Clink.
The sound of empty bullet shells hitting the ground filled his ears. A sound he knew all too well. Desperately trying to find an escape from that sound, he threw himself out of the window. A sudden pain tore through him as a bullet pierced his shoulder.
Warm blood flowed out of the wound, staining his shirt. He dropped his now useless machine gun as blood ran down his fingers. He hit the ground running but his leg gave out. As the cold rain fell on him, the dark of night clouded his mind and he hit the pavement, and everything went black.
"Re-Relena.."
*****************************************************************************************
A bright flash of light as the shades were drawn nearly blinding him.
?Damn.? He cursed at the ceiling.
A cheery voice interrupted his thoughts. Blinking, he stared at the ceiling. White, and oddly familiar. Uncomfortable bed.
Groaning as he tried to move, he met more resistance than he expected.
?Nice of you to join the living, Mr. Yuy.?
Heero groaned and closed his eyes.
Rolling her eyes, the nurse picked up her clipboard and glanced over it disapprovingly. ?Fractured leg, bullet wound, and a concussion. My, my. You?ve been busy since the last time you were here.?
?Why do I always get the same damn nurse??
?Not like I enjoy you?re company either,? the nurse shot back.
Sighing, she resumed looking over her clipboard. ?The doctors say you have to stay a week, but since you?re YOU, feel free to leave now.? Stopping with her hand on the doorknob, she added, ?Plus the guard?s sick of being knocked out.?
The door slammed shut. Heero allowed himself a smirk.
Ripping the IV tubes out of his arms, he surveyed the room. A bouquet of flowers caught his attention. Wincing as he lifted himself from the accursed bed, his rough hands touched the petals. Rummaging for a card, his search was successful. Curious, he lifted up the folded paper. Cold eyes softened as he recognized the handwriting.
?Try not to kill yourself next time.?
Dropping the card back into the flowers, and quickly changing, he walked out of the door without a second thought.

?But, Miss Relena, that?s the third time this month!?
Sighing, Relena nodded. ?I know, Pagan.?
The butler smiled sadly. ?Very well.?
Walking out to the balcony of her apartment, Relena paused thoughtfully while staring at the dark clouds. Drops of rain hit her head as she leaned over the edge, blonde hair waving in the wind.
Beep.... Beep.
She stepped inside, and hurried towards the vidphone. Tripping over discarded folders and clothes, the former queen answered,
?Yes??
Her hair was in disarrayed and wind blown. Any attempts to tame it failed miserably.
A friendly unknown face popped onto the screen. ?Ah, Miss Darlian. My sincerest apologies for bothering you.?
She gave a fake smile. ?No problem at all. What can I do for you??
The face blinked, and then regained composure. ?This is the Alliance Hospital, calling about a certain patient??
Inwardly groaning, Relena nodded quickly. ?Yes, of course.?
?He left a few hours ago. The flowers are?err?still here.?
Laughing sadly, Relena nodded her thanks.
?Good evening, Miss Darlian. ?
The screen gleamed: ?Communication Ended.?
?Miss Relena?? Pagan called out.
Thoughts broken, she looked up. ?Yes??
?You have a meeting tomorrow at 7 and need to rest."
She frowned slightly. ?Oh. Right.? ?Thank you.?

The cold rain fell incessantly. Lying on the ground, Heero was immersed in a pool of blood. His brown untamed hair fell soaking wet in his face, making it impossible to see anything.
Quiet footsteps amid the rain brought him back to reality. Grimacing as he tried to move his head, his eyes came to rest on a pair of gorgeous legs standing next to him.
He knew those legs. He groaned.
?Not you again.?
The girl attached to the legs sighed and helped him up. Taking off her jacket, she wrapped it around him. Heero was engulfed in warmth. But, stumbling, Heero's face made contact with the pavement again.
Waking up with a start, Heero looked around, surprised. Reaching up to touch his hair, he found it wasn?t wet.
?A dream??
Pulling back his covers, his computer beckoned him with small clicks and whirs. His eyes processed the glowing words, and he threw on his jacket.
?Mission accepted,? he murmured while walking out of the door.

Milliardo Peacecraft walked up to his sister?s apartment building only to be overtaken by an object whizzing and beeping toward him. Throwing himself to the ground, he narrowly missed getting hit on the head. The object smashed into the driveway and set pieces of plastic flying.
His brain telling him it was a bomb, he remained in a crouched position until his sister?s voice reached his ears.
?Take that! Spawn of Satan!? she cried victoriously.
Peering through his hair, he saw Relena hanging out her window shaking her fist at him. Bewildered, he turned to look at the smothering item.
It flashed 12:00 in red digits.
Relena noticed her brother looking puzzled at it, and started laughing.
?You?re going to kill somebody with that someday,? Milliardo retorted, eyebrow raised. ?And that isn?t the outlook the public has on the Vice Foreign Minister.?
Relena rolled her eyes. ?Front page of the newspaper: ?Princess of Peace kills with alarm clock.?? Shaking her head, she popped back inside.
The front door opened and Relena leaped out. Milliardo smiled and engulfed his little sister in a hug.
?What brings you to Earth?? she asked.
Milliardo?s face fell. ?Relena, can we go inside??
Relena frowned. ?Of course, Milliardo.? She let him inside.
Relena blushed. ?Er, pardon the mess.? She called out, ?Pagan! You wouldn?t mind cleaning up??
Milliardo blinked at the chaotic mess of the room.
The butler sighed. ?Of course.?
Relena lead Milliardo into another room. ?I have a meeting in half and hour. Can you make it quick??
Milliardo nodded. ?Relena, the Preventers have received several threats..?"
?Threats?! From who??
He sighed. ?I knew this would happen?. ?Calm down, Relena. These threats, presumed to be from terrorist organizations, have been against government officials. In the past weeks, there have been several unaccounted for deaths..?
?He?s being too diplomatic. If he was more worried about me, he would have taken me with him.? Relena tuned him out and nodded occasionally, waiting for him to get to his point. When that didn?t happen, she held up her hand.
?Milliardo,? she said slowly, "Did Lady Une send you??
Stopping mid-word, her brother stared at her, with wide eyes.
Then he smiled. ?Yes.?
?I should have known. ?
?I appreciate all of this, but I don?t think we know enough for me to be able to act on it. And?, she continued as he started to object, ?I do not seem to be at risk.?
Defeated, he nodded. ?Very well.?
She gave him a sad smile. ?Thank you, Milliardo. I know you worry. But I?m not a damsel in distress.? She broke out into a grin. ?I am after all the sister of the Lighting Count.?
*******************************************************************************
Relena sat and twiddled her thumbs all during the long meeting. The gentlemen around her had been at it for hours, and she hadn?t been able to get in a word. Relena thought for a moment. ?I really have no idea what they?re talking about.?
Sighing, she looked at the clock. She couldn?t believe her eyes. Only a minute left!
She looked around excitedly, but her heart fell, as she noticed no one else seemed to care. They were currently in a heated debate about-well, something.
She looked around again with no avail. Giving up, she coughed.
Silence.
Everyone stopped and stared at her.
Blushing mildly, she pointed to the clock. ?My sincerest apologies, gentlemen. But the meeting is over, and I have many more important items of business to take care of before midnight."
Laughter.
?You?ll be joining us tomorrow, won?t you Miss Darlian??
Relena smiled. ?Of course. Thank you all for coming, I think we?ve accomplished a lot today.?
Walking out of the conference room, she came to her office and sat down in her desk to review paperwork.
?Miss Relena??
Relena attempted to look up over the pile of folders and reports, and failed. ?Er, yes??
Her secretary smiled. ?Shall I have Pagan pick you up around 11:30 then??
Relena thought for a moment, ?No, thank you. I think I?ll walk home.?
*************************************************************************
Heero walked slowly down the alley, straining to see a few feet in front of him. His unruly hair settled uneasily in front of his cold Prussian eyes. His hand came to rest on his gun as his eyes narrowed. ?Too suspicious?.
Whirling around and seizing his gun, it met the astonished eyes of his prey.
The corner of his lip turned up into a malicious grin.
The man?s eyes wavered. ?W-Who sent you??
?Not at liberty to say.?
The man?s body slumped down onto the ground, and Heero?s gun left smoking.
Leaving the alley, he bumped into something. His eyes widened as realized it wasn?t just something, it was a someone.
?Relena?? he asked, stepping back.
Sapphire eyes hidden behind blonde bangs looked at him.
?What is she doing here?' His eyes narrowed.
Stepping out of his way, she continued the way she was headed.
"Nice to run into to you, too, Heero."
He watched in silence as she walked away.

?Miss Darlian, would you care for some tea?? said a voice quietly next to her ear.
Relena glanced around the table. Everyone had a cup of tea next to him. She looked up at the man offering her one, and shook her head. ?No, thank you.? Taken aback, the man insisted that she have some. Laughing, she replied, ?The last time someone offered me tea, I was kidnapped by an 8 year old.?
?What are you doing,? he asked quietly, trying to change his voice a bit. He failed.
Relena opened her eyes, and raised an eyebrow. ?This,? she gestured around her, ?is my seat.?
Heero froze.
?I happen to like sitting in it. Is that a problem??
sorry to keep everybody waiting so long. enjoy! happy early fourth!
