Melville?s Best Friend
A new day has come
A new day has come
?I mean it, Mr. Marquis. Let her out of your sight for one instant, and she?s liable to have another breakdown,? the doctor nodded sternly after giving her one last shot. Her arm was blue from all the medication she?d been given, chilling her brother. She?d have to wear long sleeves for awhile.
?The medication will keep her asleep for a good while,? he said, checking her temperature. ?If she moans or cries, pay her no heed; side effect of her condition and the medicine working at her brain.?
Zechs nodded, watching her breathe none-too peacefully in her queen-sized bed.
Frail.
She was so frail.
Her skin matched the color of the sheets, and he had to blink to make sure the golden hair spread about the white bed was attached to a body.
?When she wakes up, do not talk of the incident. If she talks about it, ignore her,? the doctor rummaged through his bag, and Trowa?s gaze pinned him to the door. Had the man been looking, he would have had a heart attack. What was he saying? Ignore her if she wanted to talk about it? Change the subject? Pat her on the head and give her a lollypop? Ridiculous. The matter would need to be addressed eventually.
?I suggest she take a leave of absence from work for at least two months, but that may be too short,? he shook Zech?s hand, ?You know where to reach me.?
?Thank you, doctor,?
Zechs showed the man out while Trowa moved to sit beside her, moving a chair from her desk. He gently touched her face, noticing how his hand looked burnt compared to her tone.
I was waiting for so long
For a miracle to come
Everyone told me to be strong
Hold on and don't shed a tear
She needed him now more than ever.
Or was it the other way around?
?Trowa, can I ask you a favor??
Zechs had entered without the former assassin even aware.
I'm losing my touch because of you, Lena.
He continued caressing her as he nodded, signaling Zechs to ask.
He had seen it before. He had seen it with Heero, but Trowa was so much gentler. Everything Yuy did was abrasive and harsh; like an automaton. But with Trowa, Zechs knew she was safe. Fear for her life was replaced with ease when he saw Trowa around her. It soothed him somehow. Too bad she didn?t feel the same.
?Can you watch her??
Trowa turned, astounded, ?Zechs??
?I trust her in your keeping. Will you??
He turned back to her, entwining his hand in hers. Her chilled and lifeless hand made him squeeze harder; sending more heat to her.
?With my life.?
?Thank you, Barton.?
?It?s not your fault, Zechs. Sooner or later, she would have snapped anyway. I had seen it coming.?
Zech?s eyes narrowed. ?No. It?s not my fault.?
?Where are you going, then, Zechs??
?Noin is in labor. I?ll be back when I can?If I can. If she?s better.?
?She will be. I give you my word.?
A silence passed that time could not measure. Zechs kissed her brow; promising her she would be ok. She was in good hands. She was in capable hands. Zechs thought, most importantly, she was in deserving hands.
Through the darkness and good times
I knew I'd make it through
And the world thought I had it all
But I was waiting for you
Her body jolted; spasms cascaded through her as if she were stuck on a roller coaster. Catherine grabbed a cold washcloth and continued to douse her forehead.
She moaned and screamed.
Her voice was hoarse; she?d been having nightmares all day. Two days straight. The screams were more and more heart-wrenching every hour.
?Shhh?Shhh, Relena, it?s okay?It?s okay??
Catherine continued to try and calm her, but failed miserably. Whenever Trowa left her side, she dove into Hell. Her eyes would flutter open, then shut immediately, showing huge black orbs that chilled Catherine to her core. She grabbed her cell phone, cursing as Relena started to dig her nails into her own palms.
?Where are you??
?In the driveway. What's wrong? Is she okay??
?Hurry, Trowa??
He dropped the bag on the front porch and ran to her as fast as his legs could carry him. By her side in less than a minute, he gently rubbed her hands and whispered in her ear.
?She needs another shot.?
?No she doesn?t,? he kissed her hand, ?Calm down, Relena?Giving her that medicine has done nothing for her. We try something new today.?
She ran.
She ran away from him. He was trying to hurt her; trying to take her away. She didn?t want to go. She begged her feet to move faster, but they became slower the more she thought about it.
Vines shot up through the ground and wrapped themselves around her, holding her prisoner. Thorns dug into her flesh, and she cried and screamed calling for anyone to save her.
She made no sound, though she could feel her throat grow scratched and weary as she tried to scream. The man: the shadow. It was coming. The vines choked her, strangling her, and she couldn?t breathe.
She had wanted him to kill her, but not like this.
He touched her face. His hard hands cupped her face and he smirked at her. Her tears stopped when she looked at him. What was he? He was a killer. He was someone who not only stopped caring for her, but hated her.
Who was he? He was nothing.
But she would die by his hands. She would die a meaningless death, and lock herself away in Hell where she belonged. Ready to relinquish her hold, she closed her eyes.
?Relena??
Instantly the vines left, but muck surrounded her. It sucked her into it, leaving goo where her hands tried to free herself. She cried out and reached for anything she could find.
And there he was?
?Give me your hand, Relena.?
Without a second thought, she took his hand, holding it not with a plea for life, but with a lover?s embrace.
?Trowa??
Hush, love
I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love
?Trowa??
Her eyes fluttered and slowly opened. The room was dark. Shadows hugged every corner and toyed with her perception.
?Trowa??
Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new [sun]
A new day has come
A new day has come
It was a hoarse whisper, as her voice was weak, and she raised a hand to touch her throat; her hand made contact with something else.
His hand.
?Trowa??
?Are you okay??
?I feel so weak??
?Don?t worry about it. We?ll get you up and about, if you?d like. Are you hungry??
She watched his eyes glow with thankfulness. If it was possible to capture her heart with only his eyes, his did. She squeezed his hand, never breaking eye-contact,
?Starving.?
He helped her sit up, though she swore she could do it on her own. He couldn?t help where his hands roamed when helping her; some parts needed gentle guiding. Her hips rocked gently as she tried to stand. He steadied her with ease, noting that she had lost at least ten pounds. Gentle hands glided down her back, leaving a path of goose bumps.
?Hold on to me.?
?I couldn?t let go even if I wanted to.?
Where it was dark now there's light
Where there was pain now there's joy
Where there was weakness, I found my strength
Oh, in the eyes of a boy
The sun was unusually bright. It hit the Peacecraft mansion with a resounding brightness that screamed for all inhabitants to leave the house. The picnic was Catherine?s idea, and Trowa had agreed?after four hours of begging and a couple of threats from Catherine?s new set of knives. Catherine and Relena were busy chatting in the rose garden, and Trowa watched them from a hill. The grass soothed his hands, and the sun warmed his spirit.
She had grown so much stronger in the past two weeks. Under strict orders, from who Catherine titled ?Dr. Trowa?, she had never been left alone. Her mood shifted to exceedingly happy; she smiled and laughed as if she had no worries at all.
This is when he found that his self-control had needed immediate training.
?Trowa!!!?
He would never get his fill of hearing his name roll off her wonderful tongue and touch those amazing lips?
He turned to see her.
?Come and see this rose, Trowa! It?s beautiful!?
He walked to her, noting that the white strapless sundress was a bit see-through. Her slender thighs were too much for him to bask upon, as her hands found his arm and tugged him towards her flower.
?Tro-tro! Isn?t beautiful? Relena found it just sitting there?.I?ve never seen anything like it!?
He gasped when his gaze rested upon it. Dew kissed the rose tenderly, clinging to it as if they would descend into darkness if they left it. The sun rested upon it's petals, hugging and nurturing it while the breathless trio stared. Its petals fanned, turning a deep blue as they belled, and in the center, the purple night sky smiled at them.
?Isn?t it wonderful?? she whispered into his ear.
His eyes chose that time to marvel her. Light itself would be dark compared to her eyes. They gleamed with beauty and radiance, sparkling like diamonds in the sun. Her hands never felt so soft, and he wondered if the roses were jealous of her hand?s caress. The wind toyed with her hair, sending bits over her shoulder, down her back?onto him.
?Beautiful.?
Her body never tensed as she slowly moved her eyes to his, smiling.
Oh, he could lose himself in that smile.
Hush, love
I see a light in the sky
Oh, it's almost blinding me
I can't believe
I've been touched by an angel with love
Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new [sun]
Parted lips whispered words only angels could hear.
?I meant the rose.?
Steady hands found their way to her ear, where they tucked a strand misplaced.
?I?ve seen nature?s most perfect gift.?
Crimson rose to her cheeks, as Catherine laughed nervously and declared that it was too hot outside; she?d be going in.
Relena laughed.
?Do you think she?s giving us a hint??
?Would it be rude of me to act on it??
???No???
Slowly, he lowered his head to hers, watching her eyes shut as delicately as a blooming bud. Her skin begged for his touch; his caress, and her body moved to him of its own accord, where her arms found themselves pressed against his torso.
Their lips touched; a cloud could not have been softer than their embrace. She opened her lips, granting him access to much more powerful sensations as he felt her tongue wander to his lips.
He took the invitation. He molded their mouths together, massaging her tongue with his. Her taste was enough to send him past cloud nine and straight to Heaven itself. Honey filled his senses as he continued to memorize her sweet taste. Their treacherous bodies hated the chastity that had been separating them for too long, and shaking hands from both parties roamed where they saw fit.
She broke the kiss, panting into his shoulder, and locked her body to his in a tight embrace. He hugged her back, afraid to let go for fear of losing her to heaven, where she belonged.
"Thank you, Trowa."
"For what?"
"I don't love him anymore. I don't even know him, Heero Yuy."
His heart screamed and leapt with joy, as he himself remained calm.
?I have to tell you something,? he whispered.
?Shh," a perfectly manicured nail touched his lips, "I love you, too.?
A new day has come
Let the rain come down and wash away my tears
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears
Let it shatter the walls for a new, new son
A new day has come
It was time.
