Summary: The words Heero say, and the ones he doesn?t need to. I'm trying out a new style, so please tell me what you think.

?I will kill you,? he had said. That had been the first promise he had ever made to her, almost the first time she had ever heard his voice. She had trembled, knowing the world was not supposed to end like this.

The first time he put his hand around her waist and held her, she knew: she knew the small crush she had for him, which was already swelling her in her heart, was only the beginning; she knew she would never be truly happy without him; she knew they would continue dancing, waltzing, stepping around each other like this incessantly; she knew that meeting him had changed her life for the better, and soon she would come to realize it was for the worst as well. That night, he had shielded her from the fate he wished on her, and she knew.

She knew he wouldn?t, couldn?t kill her, even if he ultimately lead her to her death.

He had said nothing, and left. Immediately, she felt his absence and did everything in her power to fill the gap. Finally, she let it go, not realizing he was thinking of her as well.

When he came back, they were both the same, and yet always changing and in motion. Always, he moved towards her under the guise of duty, and she let him, knowing they had no other way.

?I will protect you,? he had said, contradicting his previous vow. She had known through his actions that they would come to this definition of knight and princess. Once, his admission would have meant the world to her, but she thought in terms of universes now.

Later, he might have been the saving the life he once tried to take, but she was the one who stopped the rapid descent of his fall. He protected her, and she repaid him by saving his soul. It was her duty as the stereotypical princess, after all.

?I?m leaving,? he had said, and despite her heart breaking like a fragile crystal swan, she was thankful he had let her know this time. This is how far they had come ? a clumsy goodbye, spoken harshly in dutiful tones. She should have been pleased for the warning, but she wondered if it really was easier to have a chance to say goodbye.

?I love you,? she told him, not trying to influence his decision because she was too good for that and had far too much pride, but hoping her words would keep him by her side. He frowned, nodded, and left.

During the days, she filled the chasm he had left with work and at night she secretly yearned. Her glass was half empty and she danced a solitary waltz until he came back, because he never really could let her go either.

?I?d kill for you,? he had said, in an odd moment of brutal honesty. It was alarming, especially after he had vowed to never take another life, to know she could bring out those baser instincts. She knew he probably already had at some point in the past, whether he was aware or not. The pacifist in her couldn?t live with that knowledge.

?I wish you wouldn?t.?

?I will marry you,? he had said, making another one of his typical promises. She knew, despite the fact he hadn?t posed it as a question, what he was asking.

?Yes!? she whispered, jumping into his personal space in order to hold her arms and peacefulness around his dangerous, war-wrought form. ?You will.?

She leaned forward, head tilting for a kiss and he obliged. In that moment, they stopped dancing for an instant and just stood still ? a brief reprieve. She didn?t think of everything he had said before, or all the words she yearned to hear him say. She didn?t need exchanged ?I love you?s or holding hands on a bench in the park. She didn?t know she would get them anyway.

?I do,? he had said. In that moment, there was nothing but joy.

She smiled.

Very pretty!
Quite different from other one-shots!
It was nice how you captured Heero in his different states and how he eventually
began to change his viewpoint of Relena and allow himself to love.
I love the format, the fragmented parts give us all we need to know and still leave
us filling the gaps on our own.
This was priceless:

I like the style. Heero doesn't talk much but when he does talk, it's always worth the waiting. He can deliver some of the best lines ever.
