Life's Challenges

Post by AFI »

This was a little poem that my Science teacher gave my class on the last day of school. We all complained that it was boring and shit but to be honest...its one of my favorites now...

I don't own Gundam Wing or the poem. The author is unknown though

"Hurry up daddy! Your so slow!" Shouted a little five year old girl as she ran up the hill to her favorite picnic spot.

Her family would spend their Sunday afternoons up there (since they both had no work.......usually), under the biggest tree in the field. Unfortunatly, mommy was called in early today for an emergency.

Heero finally made it up the hill and came face to face with a little death glare that looked exactly like his except smaller.

"Look you wasted so much time! You waste um....ten minutes." She said looking at an invisible watch on her little thin wrist.

Heero laughed and grabbed her and spun her around like crazy. She screamed and screamed until Heero swore he was going to go deaf. He then set her down and they ate their lunch.

*********

"Look at that one! It looks like a bunny."

"Hn. That ones looks like a 27mm rifle."

"Daddy."

"Hm?"

"Mommy wouldn't want you saying that."

"Shhh..."

*giggle* "Right."

Heero lay in the warm grass enjoying the nice shine and the cool breeze as his daughter, Meah (pronounced Mia) lay right above him. They watched the clouds go by and tried to find pictures in them.

All of a sudden Meah got up. "Daddy?"

"Hm?"

"How come Mommy is so busy?"

Heero got up and pulled her onto his lap. "Because Mommy has a very important job."

"I know but it's not fair. She doesn't get to spend much time with us no more."

Heero kissed the side of her forehead. "Mommy is a very important person and everyone needs her because life isn't easy."

"I wish it was."

Heero smirked and held Meah tighter.

"I'd really like for you to know about the importance of family, playing sports and having chores. I really would. I hope you learn humily by being humilliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated."

Meah just listened quietly to everything her daddy said.

"I hope you learn to make your bed, to mow the lawn, do the dishes and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you turn sixteen. It would be good if, at least one time, you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep."

Meah spun around with hurtful eyes. "Daddy that's mean! Not poor Zero!"

Heero smiled and kissed her head as she turned back around.

"I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in."

"You mean like when Uncle Duo got punched by Uncle Zechs for saying that Auntie Noin was-"

Heero quickly put his finger to her mouth, afraid to hear what she was probably going to say and shocked that she was even paying attention on that day. She listened again except she didn't turn around this time. Heero stared at her. She really did look like him except she had blonde highlights.

"I hope you share a bedroom with a younger brother. And it's alright if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him. When you want to see a movie and a little sister wants to tag along, I hope you let her."

Relena silently walked up the hill behind the two. Damn she hated work, especially when it pulled her away from her Sunday afternoons. She heard Heero talking and stopped to listen to what they were talking about.

"I hope you have to walk or catch the bus to school everyday and that you live in a place where you can do it safely. On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your "driver" to drop you off two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your mom."

"I would never do that."

"I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books. When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn how to type properly and to add and subtract in your head."

"I know what one plus one is. Eleven!"

Relena shook her head and gave a silent laugh.

"And I'm gonna be really good in computers too. I'm gonna be just like you except mommy said that she doesn't want me learning computers from you."

Relena smacked her head.

"I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy and when you talk back to your mother, that you learn what soap tastes like.

Meah covered her mouth with her hands with a big 'smack' sound.

"I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend."

"Daddy, what's a joint?"

"You'll find out sooner or later."

Relena crept up behind the tree. She understood what Heero was getting to but allowing Meah to try beer...even if she didn't like it..no.

"And I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through a neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a portrait you painted of her in school."

"I love you daddy."

"I love you too." Heero hugged Meah his tightest and she gave him a kiss on the lips. While she was doing so, she saw Relena behind the tree. Relena motioned her fingers with a 'shhh' and Meah gave a quick nod of the head so that it wasn't noticeable. She walked quietly behind Heero and used her hands to cover his eyes.

"And I hope you get the best of things the hard way." She pulled her hands away and kissed Heero. Meah ran into her arms for a hug and they all decided to head back.

When they were halfway down the hill, Meah asked, "Daddy, remember when you said about the little sister and brother thing and sharing a room and taking them to the movies?"

"Uh hn."

"But I don't have a little brother or sister."

Relena looked at Heero and Heero's eyebrows went up and down.

"Maybe you will someday."

Gaaaahhhhh.......fluff.No not fluff(choking sounds)

Short, sweet and to the point.Thi is a very rare pic of Heero of the future.Nice to see him actually enjoying his middle-age rather than remaining his old stoic way, despite Relena's influence.

You have quite a few fics AFI.I hope you finish them. :salute:
