"What's up with your dad, Vixel," Kala's friend Cole Mitz asked.
Kala was standing in the doorway of his house, while his friends, Cole, Derek Sifer, Ryan Nerol, and Holuk Tretel stood on the dirt path in front of his house.
"He said he had to go to Circo for somethihng, he wouldn't tell me," Kala answered. "Why, what did he do after he left my house?"
"Well," Derek said thinking about it. "He was crying and darted off towards Circo; not telling antone why or for what, so that's why we came here."
Kala stared passed his friends in the direction of Circo. He did not completely understand why his father had left. More thoughts of his father leaving his life forever, flooded Kala's mind. Those thoughts triggered Kala's sensitivity and he began to cry. Kala fell to the ground, tears soaking the ground below his eyes.
"Kala," Ryan exclaimed as Holuk rushed to Kala's side.
"What's the matter with you, Vixel," Cole asked trying to coax Kala.
Kala did not respond and started crying harder. His friends stood there, except Cole, who continued to try to calm Kala down, and watched confused by Kala's outbreak.
"I'll never see him again," Kala said between sobs.
"What do you mean Vixel? You father," Cole asked. "I bet he'll be back by dusk two days from now."
Kala looked up at Cole and smiled faintly. The two started to laugh, while the others gave a puzzling look. Cole had been Kala's best friend for eleven years. The two were there for each other no matter what the situation was.
"Wait here for a moment you guys," Kala said, wiping tears from his eyes. He went inside to retrieve his gift. "This is what I got for my birthday."
Cole and the rest of the gang gazed at the present. Ryan touched the blade and quivered as though the sword radiated with a strange unknown force.
"What's the matter with you," Derek asked.
Ryan turned to Derek and said, "Don't know but what ever it was, it was quite bizarre."
They looked at the sword a little longer then let Kala place it back inside. When he returned, he noticed that Derek and Holuk had left to help their parents.
"I have a favor to ask you," Kala said to Ryan. "I was wanting to know if you could possibly go check Circo for my dad. I want to know what my father is doing. I know your father has to go to Circo so you may be able to see him."
"Me? Kala maybe you should ask one of the Leaders, they'll be obliged to help you."
"But I want you to do it," Kala said. "I don't really trust the Leaders and I have to talk to Cole about some stuff."
"What do I get in return?"
"A sense of accomplishment. So be happy."
Cole shook his head as Ryan ran to his house. He wondered what the complicated stuff would turn out to be. Cole took a seat at the kitchen in Kala's house. Kala stood on the opposite side of the table and yawned.
"You're probably wondering what the complicated stuff is, right," Kala asked.
"Right," Cole said. "'Cause I have no idea of what the hell you are talking about."
Kala laughed and said, " I want you to ready yourself."
"What the hell do you mean by that," Cole asked.
"What I mean is that the Drags will come for me and I am going to need some backup."
"How do you know that? I mean Vincent will surely rip 'em a new one. They couldn't do it unless Vincent is..."
Kala nodded and Cole shook his head, not willing to except the answer Kala gave him.
"But why and how, I mean he wouldn't," Cole said spitting words out. "No Kala, Vincent won't die!"
"Cole, I know what he is doing. He wants the best for everyone. He wants us to be free."
The two left Kala's house and walked in an eastern direction and came across a river. No one was there, so they decided to soak their feet in the ice cold water. The stream felt cold as Kala stuck his feet in. He shivered then let the cold water ease his fears. Cole mimicked him and felt the water and its easing powers.
"I still won't believe that Vince would do such a thing. It's probably just a sercret and he doesn't want you to know.
"You think," Kala asked.
Cole nodded and closed his eyes. Kala, taking advantage of Cole's serenity, pushed him into the river. Cole muttered something but it wass drowned out by the splash. Kala began to laugh and was dragged down too. For now the two would have their fun, but raising Kala from his sorrowful ashes would be more difficult than that.
