--------
Later the same morning
JFK High School
She entered the school expecting glances and questions of her identity; that's what usually came with her first day at new schools. At first it annoyed her to be in such a position, but she found the older she became the more she enjoyed the attention. It only lasted for a week or so, and then she was left to the cold shadows of loneliness once again, so she thrived on it while she could.
However, she received no notice on that day from that school, because it seemed there was a more interesting subject already circulating.
"Is he back today?"
"Today was the day he was supposed to return."
"He better have a picture!"
"Mrs. Landers said that she talked to him yesterday and found out it was a girl."
"Do you know what the name is?"
"Something weird...I think it was Korean, since that what he is."
"He's Japanese, you numb nut."
"Mr. Darlian supposedly visited him and his wife at the hospital. I overheard him talking to the Algebra teacher in D-25. He said the baby was adorable."
"Yeah, well no surprise there. He's good looking, and the picture on his desk proves that his wife isn't hard to look at either. Of course they're going to have a beautiful kid."
All day it was what every student talked about, and a good portion of the teachers as well. By fourth period, she had figured it to be a teacher, a well-liked one, and by fifth she found out his name was Mr. Yuy and that he was one of the Psychology teachers on the second floor. Looking down at her schedule, she saw that she had him for the last class of the day, eighth period. Rolling her eyes, she prepared herself to be ignored in yet another class and subjected to idle gossip about her teacher, like she had all day.
Mr. Yuy hadn't shown up that day as rumored, and disappointment was evident from both his female and male students. The girl neither understood why one teacher could be so well-known, or how everyone could be so eager to hear news of his baby. However, she finally received her answers in his class, from the first person to acknowledge her that day. She had been flipping through a magazine with nothing else to do since Mr. Yuy had not left work, when someone tapped her on the shoulder from behind. When she turned around, dull gray eyes met her gaze. He looked younger than her somehow; naive and carefree. But in comparison to herself, one who was so miserable with existence, even a dying man's eyes held more youth and innocence.
"You're the new girl, right?"
"It's about time someone noticed. Yeah, I am. I'm glad there's at least one observant person in this school."
The boy laughed. "Oh, don't think badly of them; you just came at a bad time. Usually they would be all over you, but you see, our teacher--"
She cut him off abruptly. "I know, I've been hearing it all day. But I don't see what the big deal is. Everyone has kids; why is this guy so special?"
"Everyone's excited because when he ran in here two weeks ago to leave an agenda for the sub, he was excited."
"So? Of course he's going to be excited. He's having a kid for God's sake."
The boy shook his head. "You don't understand. If you knew what Mr. Yuy is normally like, you would be just as anxious as everyone else. Mr. Yuy's a great teacher, and very well respected. But he's also very serious most of the time, like never cracks a smile, doesn't usually discuss his personal life with anyone. He's quite a professional. SO when he bounced into the school that day smiling and all worked up about his kid, that got everyone in the school riled up. The gossip hasn't stopped for two weeks, and it's at its peak since he was supposed to return today."
The girl listened intently while the boy explained, and understood a little better as to what the fuss was about. She thought that this teacher was probably enjoying all of this attention; he was probably so conceited. She disliked the man already, and she still had yet to meet him. "By the way, what's your name?" she questioned him.
The boy smiled brightly, showing off glistening white teeth that matched his equally pale features. His hair was void of any color beside the light glints of gold, and it continuously fell into the area of his vision.
"I'm Dylan."
She nodded, glad that she finally manages to find someone that would pay her some attention. "I'm Mariemeia," she replied, brushing back her long auburn hair back for emphasis of her introduction. Dylan had already made it painfully obvious from his wandering eyes that he was interested in her, and she intended to have a bit of fun with that. A brief moment stood where she felt sympathy for the guy for even trying to involve himself with the likes of her; but the decision had been his own to pursue her, and she would continue it from that point on.

Moving all of Quatre Peacecraft's belongings into Trowa's tiny apartment had been quite a task, or so Relena could have assumed. The amount of boxes and furniture that were scattered throughout the place was astounding, and she was glad that she would not be the one organizing the mess. Quickly placing the two cans of paint and roller onto a sheet-covered desk, she listened to hear if anyone else had gotten there yet.
"Hello..." she called out in a sing-song voice. Soon after she heard Hilde's voice calling back to her from the second bedroom, which was the room they were to be working on. Picking her paint and roller up again, she strolled down the tiny hallway that connected the rooms all together and went into the room to her right.
"Started without me?"
"I'm just mixing the paint," the petite, raven-haired woman replied, showing Relena her mixing stick as reinforcement.
"Has my sister shown up yet?" The blonde inquired as she began to roll up the sleeves of one of Heero's older work shirts that she had thrown on. Hilde shook her head as a negative, and then turned back to stirring the mixture of paint. Relena picked up her own can and followed her friend?s example, and soon both were working on their own walls. Hilde's light humming and the sound of the roller rubbing across the surface were the only sounds that broke the silence of the room for some minutes.
"Have things been improving at all?"
"No." The sound of one of the rollers grew louder as pressure was applied to the task, and the humming ceased.
"I'm sure he'll come around."
One of the rollers stopped instantly. "I'm tired of hearing that, Relena. I thought you of all people would understand."
Relena took the offensive immediately. "I do understand. But I think that confronting him about it would be better than making him play mind-reader."
"I shouldn't have to tell him flatly; I don't want to have to tell him. I want him to want to make some kind of commitment. Everyone else has said 'oh, you need to let him know', but why? You and Heero didn't have a sit down discussion and figure out you wanted to get married. Neither did Quatre and Trowa. Dammit Relena, even Quatre and Trowa have decided to settle down together, and they have a lot working against them! Why do I have to be the one that has to force things to happen to my benefit?"
Relena had nothing to say in response, because she was in agreement.
"I don't have a whole lot of time left,(1)" Hilde continued in a somber tone. "And I want a baby. I know you can understand that. I think I've been more than tolerant of his problem with commitment; I figured he's get over it, but eight years is just too much. I want what you have, Relena, and as selfish as it may sound, I will leave him if I have to choose between the two."
"You're not selfish," Relena corrected, finally speaking. "You should..."
"Hello?"
Sylvia's cheery voice rang clear throughout the apartment and right through the conversation. "He'll pull through somehow. It's in the genes," Relena concluded with a wink to her friend, and then ceased the conversation just as Sylvia entered the bedroom.
"Hey, did I miss anything good?" the 27-year old blonde inquired as she placed her hands on her hips. She was dressed down like the other two girls were. Her legs were encased in oversized black sweatpants, while she wore a dark green tank shirt.
"Didn't miss much, but since you've come last, you get the pleasure of doing all the corners," Relena replied while holding out the tiny paint brush to her older sister. Sylvia mock-scowled.
"Lucky me...I see I'm not the only one who raided the boy toy's clothes," she observed as she eyed the two girls' attire. Relena, as mentioned before, was wearing one of Heero's old white work shirts and a pair of her own light blue sweatpants, folded up to the end of her calf. Hilde was wearing a "BBQ Jack's" (a restaurant in the area) t-shirt that screamed Duo's ownership and a pair of khaki floods. Most of her short hair was hidden under a tiny black bandana that was tied about her head, and a small splotch of white paint had found its way to her left cheek.
Sylvia took the paint brush from Relena without a complaint and started on the corner nearest Hilde.
"Speaking of boy toys, how are you and Colin?"
Sylvia turned to Hilde and smiled. "Really good. Things are progressing sort of slow, but I'm okay with that. How are things with you and Duo?"
Hilde's eyes darkened. "The same," she replied simply. Before Sylvia could ask for some elaboration, Relena cut in. "Gee guys, thanks for asking about my love life," she quipped sarcastically. The two other girls didn't fall for the psuedo hurt look for a moment and gladly teased back.
"We don't need to hear you boasting about your perfect life, Rellie. It just depresses us to have you gushing over your beautiful, quiet baby, and husband who you have on a leash the length of a centimeter." All was said with a teasing wink from Sylvia. However, Relena felt an underlying meaning behind the jest.
'Do I really upset them when I talk about my life?' she wondered. Was she that bad...boasted that much? Suddenly a darker thought was conceived within her Conscious; one that would disturb her for the remainder of the day.
'Could mine and Heero's relationship be the reason why Hilde is unhappy with Duo?'
(1)- Hilde is referring to her biological clock since she is nearing her thirties; she isn?t dying!
Preview:
Relena caught sight of her first and strode over to her purposely. By the time Mariemeia spotted the angered wife, she was unable to scurry away in time, so she stood her ground and raised her chin in defiance of the older woman.
?I wouldn?t come any closer if I were you, Mrs. Yuy.?
?And if I do? What will you do about it? File a harassment charge against me?!? Relena retorted viciously, getting in the girl?s face.
"I just may!" Mariemeia replied as she took a small step back, but the slight tremor in her voice gave light to her fear of the other woman. Relena Yuy frightened her, shattered her stability and her constant, because somehow the woman could see right through her. Ever since their first meeting outside of the school, she had hoped never to have be locked in the aqua-eyed gaze of the woman who could strip her thoughts and actions naked to examine as much as she liked.
"You need to stop this, Mariemeia. It's gone too far as it is."
"Will you shut up! You're a moron to still be in denial about this. It's *not* my fault."
"Don't you realize how serious this is? He could lose his job! And if your mother decides to bring us to court, he could lose his life! Do you realize that, Mariemeia?! He could spend twenty years locked in a prison for your lies!"
"He should have thought of that before he tried to come on to me!"
"I know he wouldn't do that."
"You don't know anything. You think you?re so damn wonderful that he wouldn?t even look at anyone beside you."
"No, I know everything. Because I *was* you!"
