Jackie?s Note: This comes from my Creative Writing class? We were told to write one page about anyone, and she gave us the starting sentence. So, I wrote about Wolfe.

I didn?t expect it go to anywhere or want to keep it, but I figured that it was a nice insight into his character. Plus, it?s a part that you?d never see otherwise, so here it is.

The Man
Chapter 1 ?</center>
Wolfe was beyond frustrated as he hung up the cell phone. He was being blamed for the failure of the test on Gaachiinyen? But it wasn?t his fault. No, it wasn?t, and he?d be sure that those responsible for the failure would be held accountable. It was time to make good on his threat.
Spinning smoothly around from the display, he clicked the lights off. Now the only light in the room was coming from the blue circle surrounding the chair. He strode towards it and paused at the sight of the blood. There was another failure? She hadn?t cracked. He?d told her it was admirable, and to a person like him whose life was wrapped up in the work to bring his radical ideals to fruition, it was. But that didn?t make it any less frustrating. It wasn?t his fault, either. Yes, he?d delegated the responsibility to others, but above all, he hadn?t been able to press her due to the break he was required to give her. At least he had something to look forward to?
He passed right through the blood, not even attempting to side-step it. For some reason, it gave him a slight rush to feel the soles of his shoes slip a bit in the red substance. Perhaps he found it symbolic in some aspect?
And the whole session hadn?t been a failure, after all, he thought as the doors closed themselves after him. The look in her eyes as he destroyed the village? The way she?d almost vomited? It was priceless, and he allowed the feeling of satisfaction to wash over him. She knew he possessed no mercy, he?d seen that in her eyes, and that would be intricate to his purposes in the next two days. He would have to break her. Personally. What a wonderful thought.
But the fact that he had to wait served to annoy him to no end.
Something about his internal feelings must have been leaking through his expertly crafted mask as his subordinates passed by him with a cross between awe and fear etched on their faces? Perhaps they knew where he was headed? Doubtful. No one knew where he was headed? Phantom was probably too stupid to connect the dots, and even if he knew what the ramifications of the test meant, he knew to keep his mouth shut. One slip was enough to instill that into his thick head. Theoretically.
He?d warned them. He?d given them ample time to fix the problems. At that thought, he pondered for a moment if he did, in fact, possess a bit of mercy? ?No,? he decided, ?Just reasonable restraint.?
He was justified in his wrath, as well. He didn?t know why it mattered, but all his actions had to be justified, and at this point, his decision was definitely justified.
Arriving at the elevator, he stepped through the threshold and pressed the B7 level. The doors closed after him, and he stood patiently as the descent began.
They?d been building up to this day. It was important that everything go according to plan, to schedule. In less than 24 hours, they?d be discovered by the entire world. Test after test, and they?d assured him that all the bugs had been worked out. They needed this in order to succeed. They knew how vital it was, and they?d failed him. Now their entire operation hung in the balance. What once was a sure-fire plan was now a race against time. The weapon was still deadly, but their greatest asset was worthless.
Those scientists were in for it.
He checked over his person to ensure that he had his tools. His pistol, silver and cold, resting in its holster on his waist. It was loaded, but he wouldn?t need that. Yet. No, no, he had to keep them alive so they could fix it. Reasonable restraint, he reminded himself. He checked his interior coat pocket and found the object of his desire. His fingers skittered over the remote at the thought of what he?d do with it?
The elevator dinged, and he stepped out onto the B7 level. A short walk down the hall and he was faced with the heavy metal door of their holding cell. As he reached for the handle, swiping his keycard over the lock, Region Wolfe was no longer frustrated.
He was giddy.
