Hehe...so what do you guys think of canon characters getting paired up with OCs as an alternative pairing? Me? Well, I'm writing a fic that does have that kind of pairing. In fact, it's in this section. *cough*Shameless Advertisement*cough* Anywho...I dont mind an OC pairing with a canon as long as the OC is believable, and I kinda steer away from the HeeroXOC fics. I just cant see him with anyone other than Relena. But anyway, I've had a hard time with who to pair my OC with.
Here are some she can be paired with
-Duo (But I'm thinking of only pairing her with him if I get a good amount of suggestions that she pairs up with him)
-Trowa (Not sure...he is rather quiet, so it would be hard to do some romancy scenes with him. I'll try, though.)
-Quatre (Definitely leaning towards him)
-Treize (I know...originally he is unoffically with Une but remember...this is alternative pairing! ^_~)
So I was wondering, if you guys could read what I have so far and make your judgement of who she could be with? *puppy dog eyes*

Ok, so he never really said it. It's a quote I made up for when I finally decide to write my Treize fic. ^^;

hhmmm... I'm a die-hard fan of 1xR (
), but if you ask me, I kinda like the pairing QuatrexRelena and DuoxRelena. :-?
Quatre: if you compare him to the other pilots, he is the most peacemaking one...so he could be a pairing for Relena, because, well, Relena is a pacifist.
Duo: well, Duo's a funny, but caring guy... and his carefree demeanor/attitude can help with Relena's busy life.

For some weird reason, I can't really see the 4xR pairing. I know they're sort of similar in their ideals, but I think Relena might need something more than that, something different from Quatre. I don't know, I just really don't see it. Duo's infinitely more plausible, methinks.
I really like 3xR and 5xR. Weird, see? And I also like 3xD.

I'm with you Dj, except for the whole 3xD thing... 5xR, I can handle. I've read a few fics based on them that were really good... but Dorothy? I can only see her paired up with Quatre. I think they're like yin and yang, they balance each other, complimenting their strenghts and defects.
I fully support 1xR, not because of the tendency (or because I know that if I say otherwise, I will perish under Rose's devices), but because I truly believed in their relationship during the show.
BUT! Ahem. I also like (read: love) 3xR. I see their relationship as something different than 1xR; while I think Heero and Relena can have such a deep, meaningful relationship between them, I think Trowa and Relena could have a more open, laid-back one.
Also, for some reason, I can't seem to like OC's. I hate them. I just can't fathom Relena, Heero or any other pilot ever chosing another character over their GW-verse partner. I can read OC's, some writers have proved to be skilled at creating new characters, but not when they're the main focus of the story. Also, when OC's are included in a story, the writer often focuses just on this one character, and don't develop the other ones. They often focus on this wonderful girl who's perfect (and most of the times this new character is a representation of the writer), and forget Heero (if in this case he's being paired up with the OC).What's his background? Who is he? (if in this case it's an AU)
Character development is critical in any story, and most writers don't seem to know or care.
I see OC's as an added complement in the story, as something to enhance a character's background (OC's as friends, co-workers, enemies from the past or present, vendors, children or family, etc.).

I actually wrote a Heero/Relena fic from the perspective of an original character... I like them if they're done well, and I hope that I gave my character enough depth to be considered well developed. (If anyone's interested the fic is called You're in Love and I write under the pen name LightGoddessKalinda) I have to agree on the point that pairing them with a character can be treading on dangerous ground. Often you can tell that OC's have been paired with a character as a form of wish-fufillment, and those aren't really fun to read.
The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies.

It could be worse, you could be a character in a John Steinbeck novel.

3xD is just there for the pure smutty nature of it, my dear Andrea. *cheeky grin* Don't get me started on my List of Completely Impossible Pairings Which Dj Often Writes Just Because of teh Smex. *ahem* I remember 3xR would be the reason why you were voted SINNER 2006. Bwehe. *loves you for it nevertheless* But yes, I find 3xR is actually believable. More than any other alt. pairing. Heero and Trowa both complement Relena's personality, in their own way.
I don't like OC's either. I avoid them, actually, considering most OC's I've run across are Mary Sue's/Gary Stu's. It's hard developing and writing them for that very reason; more often than not, they appear 'perfect'... or maybe 'perfectly clich?' is a better phrase. Clich?, as in angsty past, perfect physical(ly impossible XD) features, everyone falls in love with them, etc.
Which is why I don't read fics that contain OC's. Although, that's not to say there aren't any good fics with OC's.
*glomps Andrea*

Oh, I do include OC's on some of my stories; sometimes they are needed to make a canon's life more realistic and believable. But, as I said, I think of OC as added bonuses to the story; they, however, hold no interest for me when their the central focus of the plot. As Dj said, they often end up being perfect creatures that seem way too cliched and unprobable (nobody is loved by everyone, nobody is completely and utterly beautiful, nobody has a great life without any worries, and NOBODY is a victim everyday).

Well, I definatly agree that Relena works with just about any Gundam pilot (or any other attractive male in GW). Where as Heero just belongs with Relena and no one else.
I like all kinds of couples I guess, so alternitive couples are my favorite. There's a few i don't like, like Trowa/Une which i just find wrong for some reason because i don't particulrarly like or dislike Une, i just find her to be unecessary when it comes to coupling in GW.
However there is this one strange couple that I'm pretty sure no ones thought of writing about yet, Zechs and Hilde. Yes it's a very peculiar and odd couple. I know there is no proof or interaction in the series to support this couple but i was inspired by a fic that had these two in a situation(not romantic) that i found very interseting.
I've always liked Zechs, he's sort of the Sesshoumaru-like character of GW, but there are really no female counterparts for him that i like. Yeah, there's Noin, but I've just never found her all that interesting with him. Besides it's much too obivious.
And Hilde maybe like Duo's friend but she, don't get me wrong this is one couple that i like but i think Hilde has potential to be with someone else, and who better than a hot guy like Zechs.
