She was dead.

Well, as dead it she could be and still be alive. His eyes narrowed as he watched her walk through the conference room to the head of the table.

Lady Une was alive yet not completely alive. She worked tirelessly to help Relena keep the volatile factions of the ESUN together and she was dedicated to Mariemaia Khrushenada. However, part of her was dead or at least shut off.

He continued to watch her as she went throughout her day. She was competent, gracious but even when she greeted her friend Noin; there were still shutters behind her eyes.

He narrowed his eyes, carefully scanning her as she began to talk. His face betrayed nothing but he thought, She's a well-dressed robot. Treize finally turned her into the barely-feeling machine that he wanted.

He remembered when she was Colonel Une, a fractured personality in the midst of war. She had been his captor and tormentor on the Lunar Base, strict and unyielding but with her glasses off, she had been a tormented woman who barely knew what she was entangled in.

During Mariemaia's rebellion, Une long melded her two personalities together. But then, even though the rebellion had lasted barely a day, it had impacted them all. Now, two years later, Une had detached herself emotionally from life.

As their eyes briefly met during the meeting, Trowa was amused by the brief flicker of something in her brown eyes. He was interested in figuring out how to wake Lady Une.
