?Heero...?
Relena stirred from her slumber. She had been dreaming again. Dreaming about him. Snap out of it she thought to herself, it?s never ever going to happen so?just?just let go.
She sat up and rested her head on her knees. Every night ? every single one ? for the past 5 years she had dreamed of him. Holding her, loving her ?and sometimes doing more. But that?s all it was ? a dream. A fantasy she knew would never happen ? could never happen.
She just had to accept it.
And the sooner, the better.
-------------
?Heero?I hope you understand why I came to this arrangement.? She looked up at the tall, messy brown haired man standing in her office. He was staring at her, through her. Those emotionless eyes piercing her to the very core. She stood up, turning away, ?It wasn?t easy for me?please just?just,? she paused before turning her head sharply to look at him, ?try to understand!? She lost control of the last three words. Her voice became shrill and her lips now trembled. She brought a shaky hand to her face and covered most of it ? attempting to hide how much this was hurting her.
Silence had descended in the little room. Heero stood there; still, at attention, his eyes never leaving hers even though she was turned away. Finally he spoke.
?It is my job, my princess, to protect you from-?
?Don?t call me that?and don?t think that you need to protect me from anything.? Relena?s tone was cold, harsh. She needed him to go, before she had to tell him the reason?the real reason why she was sending him away.
Heero started, in a more serious tone (if that was possible). ?Why are you doing this? You know you need me to-?
?I do not,? She interrupted him again, turning to meet his cold stare with an even icier one, ?need?, she took a step forward so they were almost too close, ?anyone.?
She was angry now. Angry at herself, at her decision?and at him - though she didn?t know why. She didn?t know anything anymore. Neither of them said anything for a long while.
?Then why is doing this to me hurting you so much..?
He whispered, looking down. Relena, taken aback by the sudden change in his tone, simply blinked and opened her mouth, hoping some kind of words would emerge that could save her from the moment she had dreaded for years. No such words came.
?he..heero?I..?
?Relena let?s not kid ourselves anymore..? He looked up at her once more. Those eyes?she could lose herself in them in a heartbeat. His words startled her though.
?What? What are you talking about?? She spoke defensively. Backing away from him slightly.
?You know what I?m talking about Relena..? He closed the space between them again. They were uncomfortably close.
?I?m afraid I don?t heero, I-?
Heero suddenly gripped her shoulders hard. His glare was frightening.
?Don?t deny it! I know?? he let go of her, his tone becoming more gentle, ?..I know how you feel about me??
