Note: I don't own Gundam Wing, I am only a fan.
This is an entry to the Snog challenge at http://happyfangirl.org/snogs/
This is a little one-shot, although if I ever get my longer fic done, it will probably work as a side-story. I hope you enjoy! ~Silversong
I'll See You In My Dreams
Snog IX
Three people in a shuttle, as it traces its delicate path through the darkness of the heavens. One sleeps, another pilots, and the third keeps the second awake. Two men and a woman, and the cold, dark silence that pleads to be broken.
"How is Mariemaia?"
"She is doing well. She really enjoys her classes at college."
A pause, filled with the quiet hum of the small shuttle, the breathing of the third man as he sleeps in the small bunk.
"I trust you have been taking better care of yourself recently?"
A smile, and a rueful laugh. "More or less."
"You look better."
"I was anything but my best that night."
Drolly, "I could tell."
Teasingly, "Do I detect, perhaps, the traces of a sense of humor?"
"Perhaps."
"You're smiling at me."
"Why not? I am allowed to smile."
"You are also unusually talkative."
"Only because you are, also. A tad nervous, perhaps?"
Une stands. "Yes. I don't know why. It's a routine check, but something doesn't feel quite right." She turns to him, the tall, tall man with the green eyes. "Do you know what I mean?"
"Yes."
"I feel like they're hiding something - that's why I wanted to come, instead of just sending you and Wufei."
"I understand."
An exasperated sigh - anger, helplessness, and uncertainty all combined. "It's just so frustrating!" She stands in the doorway, massaging her forehead with her fingers.
The shuttle is claimed by silence once again, then gently broken by a rustle of cloth as Trowa stands and walks to the careworn woman in the doorway. A hand on her shoulder, a delicate touch on her jaw causes Une to look upwards, into his deep green eyes.
"I missed you," he whispers. She closes her eyes and throws her arms around his neck, as his arms move to her waist, pulling her close to him. She clings tightly to his broad shoulders, as if to escape, if only for a moment, the multitude of worries and responsibilities she carries. He rocks her gently in his arms, like a father to a grown daughter, although the woman he holds is at least three years his senior.
She calms, having found her peace again, and asks a question: "Why didn't you wake me?"
"When?"
"The night you took me home."
"You were tired. You needed your rest."
"It's not fair that you got to see me, and I didn't even know you were there until Mariemaia told me that you had carried me home the next morning."
"There's only one thing I love more than watching you work."
"You're changing the topic, but go ahead and tell me."
"I love to watch you sleep."
"Well, when Wufei's shift is over, you'll get about 8 hours of that."
He strokes a hand down the line of her jaw - carefully, lightly. "I love to watch you sleep, because in your dreams, you are happy. You are calm, relaxed," he strokes her forehead, "the lines on your face disappear," he brushes her eyelids as they flutter, "and I like to think that you are dreaming of me." His hand finally rests, on the underside of her chin.
She raises her hand to his cheek. "Some days," she whispers, "you surprise me."
Suddenly, in unspoken consent, hands move - holds tighten. Lips meet, then tongues. Hands continue to move - through hair, down necks, to shoulders, waist, hips and back up again. They taste, drink, withdraw, and then return to drink more deeply of each other. They revel in the feel, the taste of one another.
He withdraws, stepping away.
"Don't leave me."
"We can't do this while Wufei's awake."
"I know."
"Shift's nearly over."
"It seems too soon."
He smiles gently. "See you again in sixteen hours?"
She smiles back, stealing a brief kiss before leaving to wake the sleeping man in the next room.
"I'll see you in my dreams."
The End
