Chapter Twenty
?What! How could you be so incompetent?! First Nero failed to disrupt any of the Preventers plans during the raid, and he had them all right there in one place! Now you idiots have let another vital part of our plan slip through your fingers!?
Fuming with rage Azzarious grabbed the nearest object off his desk and hurled it at the two would-be henchmen. Ducking they stammered apologies.
?But boss we did manage to capture Relena Peacecraft and Natael?s fianc?,? they stated almost in unison.
?But that still doesn?t give us the leverage we need against a group like the Preventers. Get out of my sight!?
The two henchmen bowed and left in haste not wanting to anger their leader more than he already was.
?How could I have gotten such incompetent help? Yes things are moving in the right direction but not fast enough. Soon all those selfish aristocrats on earth will wish they had never turned a blind eye on those less fortunate then them. The world will pay for creating such poverty and doing nothing about it. I will make them all pay!?

?How are the preparations coming in there?? Heero shouted into the shuttle where Jasin and Lady Une were working.
?Just about finished. How many more suits are left??
?Just Zero,? replied Heero looking over his shoulder towards his suit. Turning around Heero saw Zechs walking towards him.
?I won?t be going with you,? he said flatly.
Heero gave him a quizzical look and was about to ask why when Zechs continued.
?The ESUN is holding a press conference to reveal the truth about Relena and the terrorist group New Oz. As the second in command and head of internal affairs for the Preventers I am to brief the delegates on the situation and direct them on how to go about announcing the findings.?
?I thought we had agreed that this would only make matters worse for us and Relena.?
?I did what I could. The council voted in favor of making the announcement and my advise was thrown out the window. I intend to stall them as long as I can to allow you time to get things started but at most I can give you a week. Once done with that I will join you in space.?
?Don?t take too long Zechs. We need all the help we can get.?
?Precisely why someone needs to stay back. Once Maxwell has healed I will bring him with me. With the rest of you along with Sally, Noin, and Jasin you should have plenty of help with the mission till we arrive.? Just then Lady Une and Jasin walked up to them.
?All the preparations are completed. So when do we get this little show on the road?? Jasin looked around to the other members standing there.
?First off there is a matter that needs to be taken care of,? stated Lady Une.
As soon as the words had left her mouth Noin came running up behind them. ?I have the papers you requested,? she said.
?Heero Yuy step forward please. Noin would you read them aloud please.? Noin held up the piece of paper that she had brought with her and began to read from it.
?To all who shall see these presents, greetings: Know ye that reposing special trust in the confidence and the fidelity and abilities of Heero Yuy, I do appoint this Preventer a Lt. Colonel (meritoriously) in the ESUN Preventers Corps to rank as such from the second day of January, one hundred ninety-nine. This appointee will therefore carefully and diligently discharge the duties of the grade to which appointed by doing and performing all manner of things thereunto pertaining. And I do strictly charge and require all personnel of lesser grade to render obedience to appropriate orders. And this appointee is to observe and follow such orders and directions as may be given from time to time by superiors acting according to the rules and articles governing the discipline of the ESUN. Given under my hand at 1st Preventers Division Headquarters on this the tenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one hundred ninety-nine. Une, Colonel, ESUN Preventers Corps, Commanding.?
Noin then put down the piece of paper and grabbed the box that she had also brought and handed it to Heero.
?What?s this all about?? he asked slightly confused.
?If you?re going to be in charge of this operation then you need to be part of the team,? Colonel Une stated. ?We would have done this properly with a pinning ceremony and all but given the time constraint we did what we could.?
Not waiting for Heero, Colonel Une opened the box and pulled out his new uniform. Helping him slide into the jacket she said, ?Welcome to the team. Good luck with the mission. I need to return to my work and you need to be under way. Zechs we should be on our way to meet with the ESUN delegates.?
?Agreed.?
Heero and Noin saluted Colonel Une, which she returned before heading towards the elevator, followed closely by Zechs.
?Let?s go,? Heero said dryly, turning towards the shuttle.

Meanwhile back at New Oz somewhere on Mars, Relena was just waking up.
?Good morning sunshine,? Rand joked as she rubbed her eyes.
?Well someone is rather cheery today.?
?Gotta be or else I?d go nuts in here.?
?You do have a point. How is Elayne doing?? Relena asked looking towards the built in wall rack.
?She?s still asleep. There didn?t seem to be any changes during the night. I think she?s in the clear. I mean she was talking to us not long after being dropped in here.?
?True but that?s not the point. We don?t know what happened to her before they brought her here. She could have injuries we don?t see. I still think we should keep an eye on her for the next few days.?
?Well I really don?t have anything else better to do,? Rand said sounding exasperated.
?So any ideas yet on how to get out of here?? Relena asked.
?Oh yeah, sure,? Rand started sarcastically, ?and each one as less likely to succeed than the one before it leading us right back here or even worse off dead.?
?Well it might be better than just sitting here waiting and always wondering what the hell the plan on doing with us.?
?I have no idea why I?m still alive. I mean I'm just a lowly operative. As for you I overheard before you were brought in that once New Oz has conquered the ESUN and Azzarious is in control he plans to marry you and make you his queen.?

Relena just looked at Rand in shock. She couldn?t speak and even if she could she wouldn?t know what to say. The idea just seemed so preposterous to her.
?B?but why?? she finally got out.
?Beats me,? was all that she got in reply.
Fear began to race through Relena?s mind as the thought that this madman wanted to marry her sank in. As the thoughts ran through her head she pulled her knees into her chest as she sat on the floor and shivered.
