Chapter 2
Conflicting lives
Pain enveloped Heero as he woke to conciousness. Breathing normally so as not to bring attention to himself, he listened as best as he could to the people around him, but the voices were blurred together. He heard Relena's voice crack, tried to rise, but was too weak. The heart monitor couldn't feel him wake, and neither could the people next to the bed. He fell back into sleep just as briefly as he woke, unable to do anything about the pang of guilt that followed him to unconciousness.'Relena.'
"Once again, I am sorry to do this to you all." the doctor said as she walked over to the respirator. Relena nodded dully. Quatre was in the hallway with Trowa and the others. Duo was in the bathroom, trying not to throw up. Noin was holding Relena gently as the doctor turned off the machine.
Relena watched as the breathing slowed and labored even more slowly. She couldn't take the pain. Heero was going to leave her, and she couldn't stop him, just like the times before. 'but he came back, those other times.' Her head went light, and she turned a shade paler than Heero. The room spinned, and the room went black.
"Relena!" Noin yelled in alarm. Zechs and the others rushed in and carried her out. Heero was left to his fate, what ever that may be. Thunder rumbled along with the tormented friends and one who has a choice to make for himself.

Memories tend to lead others into what they can be by teaching from life's mistakes. When someone does not have a past to recall, how can he turn into his future form, as a man complete?
In the secluded misty waters of a nearby lake, a boat with a group of cloaked figures approached the dock silently. As they got out of the silver grey vessel, one of the hooded figures, looked up at the darkened windows of the Hospital and sighed inwardly. The rain had slackened from the fierce storm that they inadvertently created in their haste to reach their destination. 'Figures. Rumors are never to be listened to in Valinor.'
"Milady, we must hasten."
"I know, Anarian. After all, I brought you here to find him."The girl turned to stare at the tallest of the cloaked group. 'Brother, I have found you, after so long...'
"Remember, we cannot stay here long. The council forbids it." The eldest cloaked woman said as she looked at the darkening sky.
"Then let's start searching."the girl replied just as seriously.

In the hospital, the generators were keeping everything on but only the nescesary was turned on. The doctors had already turned off the monitors hooked up to Heero and left to tend to those still in need of care.
Relena's room...Hospital...
"She's alright, just in shock." the doctor replied when she checked her pulse and blood pressure. Zechs was sitting by her side with more than a worried look on his face. He felt terrible for her, and he knew that no one could ever change what she was feeling except Heero, who was now dead.
Duo was in the adjacent bed, also asleep. However his sleep was induced to keep him from yelling that Heero was not dead and trying to shake him awake. Quatre was at his side with Trowa to make sure that he stayed asleep. Wufei had taken the other girls back home.
"We can keep them both here for the duration of the storm if you want, but they can go home if you want that instead."
Quatre hoarsely replied,"I think that would be best. At least for Relena. Duo would want to stay."
"I want to take Relena back to her home."Zechs said quietly. The doctor nodded solemly as she assisted him with carrying her out. Quatre went with them when Trowa said he would look after them both. Quatre had been near collapse himself, due to the fact he hadn't slept in 2 days.
While waiting for the doctor to return, Trowa walked over to the window and stared out at the stormy predawn woods next to the hospital. Sighing inwardly, he thought about the last year, and how different it would be without Heero to talk with during rookie training sessions. Without him noticing, Duo rose and left the room quietly, to say good bye, one last time to the first Gundam pilot he met.

The cloaked group watched silently as Zechs pulled his car out of the parking lot to take Relena home. When they were sure that the coast was clear and the doctor had gone back into the hospital, they quickly advanced and went inside, the main lights still were off due to the storm.
"Quietly, split up and search each floor." the leader said briskly as she climbed the steps two at a time.
"As you command, milady." the others followed suit, separating into groups to search the rooms on each level.
As the leader of this band reached the last step, she met Duo. Heero's room was right next to the staircase, so they met eachother head on.
"What the?" Duo exclaimed as they collided. The girl grunted and flipped back up quickly to get the attacker. Duo merely stared at her in surprise. In the dark she looked like a lady reaper, claiming the dead. "Listen, lady, don't know who you are, or what you want, but keep away from that room." Shakily he got up to face her. She quickly glanced in and saw Heero's still form. Still keeping her eyes on Duo, she backed a step towards the door.
"Hey, i told you, you don;t want to go in there. My buddy is in there and I doubt if you want to see a dead guy in this spooky atmosphere." He shook his head slightly. The drugs that the others had given him were making him light headed. The girl suddenly whipped around and kicked his legs out from under him. At that moment the lights came back on. Startled, the girl dropped her hood and Duo got his first good look at his attacker. The last thing he saw before being knocked out again was pure prusian blue eyes staring back at him.

"Hurry, we must take him from here. The light came on when I met him." She gestured towards Duo, unconcious on the floor."We must leave him as is, to make sure we are not spotted." The others from various locations followed her into Heero's room. Staring at the still form of her brother, the leader became concerned.
Anarion spoke her concerns, "Will he be too ill to travel?"
"He can't travel to Valinor this way. We must take him out of here none the less." The Leader finally decided. Nodding in agreement, they gently covered him in an extra cloak and left through the window. The leader closing it right before she jumped to the ground and disappeared into the surrounding trees.

The next day...the Darlain estate...
Relena thrashed under the bed covers as she awoke, sweat and tears pouring from her face. Strangled sobs came out rushed and loud enough to let Noin in the other room hear. Walking slowly to her, she sat at the edge of Relena's bed and waited for the questions that would come, and the horrible thing that she had to tell her.
She still hadn't moved from her nest of tangled covers, still sobbing with all her being. The guilt and knowledge of what she did tormented her to her soul. She chose to end the life of her bodyguard, friend, and possibly something more, to save a complete stranger, a child that had barely begun her life. Conflicting emotions were battling within her, fighting for control, to make sense of the night before. "...heero."
Noin was trying to keep herself from crying along with her. Relena's pleas for Heero to forgive her during the night had made Zechs sick to his stomach, and left her in tears during the night. After finally getting control of her emotions, she tried to wake her without the tremble in her throat. "Relena...Relena, you need to wake up. We need you, to come with us, to the hospital."
"W-h-y?" Relena answered, barely a whisper came out of her as she sat up, wiping the tears from her face.
"There's been a disturbance. Someone took- Oh Relena, I'm sorry." she tried to say it but the bile came to her throat along with the tears brimming her eyes.
Relena caught the anger and revulsion in her voice from what she was trying to say. "What is it, Noin?" she asked as apprehension took place of her sorrow for a time.
"Someone, took him, Relena."

The hospital...
"Now, can we all get this from the beginning please?" Zechs asked as he tried to pull the sleep off his face.
Duo raised himself slightly off the bed, Wufei tied him down to keep him from trouble, "When everyone left i came to, snuck out behind Trowa, to," he swallowed quickly. "Say good by and I met someone head on, literally, when the lights blacked out. I startled her and we both fell on our asses. I get up and she jumps to her feet and kicks my feet out from under me."
"I heard the noise and found Duo missing. When I found him Heero was gone and Duo was unconcious", Trowa replied evenly. His patience was wearing thin due to the fact that everyone thought that he should have known everything and prevented it.
"Duo, did you see who knocked you unconcious? Could you describe the woman?" Quatre asked quickly as Sally came back with some coffee for the one's who didn't have any. Relena was practically forced to drink one.
"Well, I'm not really sure if it was really what I saw or if I dreamed what she looked like... I was doped up on sedative," he said rather pointedly and sarcastic. " Not that I didn't need it. What I remember is that she was tall and slim. Long brown hair, and blue eyes."
"Shouldn't we call the police or something?" Noin suggested, still rubbing Relena's back as she had her head between her knees.
"Preventors, remember?" Wufei growled. "We take care of our own. Besides, we have the best technology to use."
"I'll see what we can do back there." Zechs said in a rush as he got his coat. Relena nodded when he touched her shoulder and left. "We'll find him, I give you my word."
When he left, Relena sighed deeply and stood up and said in a clear, determined voice, "Well, let's find him."
