Hi everyone! Here's a new 'fic from me, even though I should be working on 'Out of the Darkness of Memory' and my GW 'fics ;-p I got this idea from a manga, also called 'Kakan no Madonna.' Obviously, this is AU. Anyway, I've worked hard on this chapter and I really hope you and enjoy it (and review!). Oh yeah...and I'm looking for a Beta reader, if you're interested don't hesitate to drop me an email.

The legend says that God granted the Earth a mythical sword called ?The Emerald Lion.? At this time, Gaea was divided into independent domains, each warring against the other for supremacy. Whoever could draw this sword would be crowned the ruler of the entire planet of Gaea. But to this day, there are no signs of the legendary sword?s whereabouts and Gaea continues to fall into chaos.
Asturia
The sound of rustling fabric and swordplay echoed in the empty armory of the modest palazzo. Sunlight streamed through leaded glass windows and shadows played across the roughly hewn stone walls.
?En garde!? The clear voice of a young woman rang out and a sword flashed in the sunlight.
?Really? Great!? A young man countered, as he blocked the thrust of her sword. Allen Schezar moved nimbly away from the slender young woman wielding a rapier. But he didn?t move fast enough and she caught the sleeve of his expensive silk shirt with her blade.
?Allen, don?t forget you?re the governor?s little brother. It?s no wonder I always beat you...you?re too slow!?
?Hitomi, if I win this match, will you promise to do anything I wish?? he asked with a smirk as he advanced upon her. His foot caught the hem of her burgundy velvet gown. Trapped, Hitomi had no way of distancing herself from his taut body. She barely got her sword up in time to block him. She blushed, having never been in such close contact with a man who was not her father. He leaned toward her, his lips brushing her ear in a way that made her shiver in discomfort. There was something wrong about Allen Schezar, and it made the young woman very uneasy.
?I love you.? That simple declaration stopped her cold, and she pushed him away violently. Allen flipped his long golden hair back, elegant in every movement. He focused his pale blue eyes on the fuming form of the lovely Hitomi Kanzaki. That gown sure emphasizes her...assets, he mused as his eyes devoured her heaving bosom.
?I win!? He cried triumphantly, almost cackling with glee as he took in her expression of disbelief.
?How cowardly! That doesn?t count! You cad!? She shouted at him and gripped the hilt of her sword so tightly her knuckles turned white. Her emerald green eyes flashed in the sunlight and her long honey blonde hair swayed as she shook her head angrily.
?True, but...you did agree to anything I asked. These are what soldiers like to call ?desperate measures.?? He chuckled and replaced his weapon in the ornate leather scabbard that hung at his waist. Allen Schezar was a very rich and desirable bachelor, and most of the noblewomen of Asturia could not understand why he wasted so much time with a moderately wealthy common girl. Men, regardless of wealth and social standing, in the city of Padua knew Hitomi?s beauty. Few courted her, however, her peculiarity was as widely known as her beauty.
?What the-?? Hitomi fumed, but was silenced by Allen?s lips on her own. She froze, her eyes wide. She had never been kissed by a man before, and felt unspeakably uncomfortable. She drove her delicately slippered foot down onto his instep and he let go of her immediately.
?Then, I want to marry you; be my wife! I already discussed it with your father and he?s given us his blessing. Our wedding will be in 10 days at the cathedral. If you would pretty yourself, I would be the world?s happiest man! Oh beautiful Hitomi, you will be mine!? He declared passionately, disregarding the dull ache in his foot. The color drained from Hitomi?s face. Her eyes flashed dangerously and her brow furrowed. She turned and fled from the armory.
?Father!? She called as she ran through the hallway to the library, her voluminous skirts flaring behind her. Allen sauntered calmly after her, deep in thought.
Hitomi reached the library out of breath and dizzy. The large room was crammed with a fortune in books. Shelving ran from the battered wooden floor all the way to the high plaster ceilings. Heavy mahogany furniture dominated the airy room. Silently, she cursed the dictators of Asturian fashion for their unhealthy obsession with corsets.
?Father! I won?t allow that sleazy man into our home again!? She wheezed vehemently and leaned on one of the large easy chairs scattered around the large room.
?Hitomi, three days ago I already gave Master Allen your hand in marriage. A common family?s daughter would be ecstatic to be betrothed to such a handsome young man. Not to mention that he?s the governor?s younger brother! You?re very lucky to be born beautiful and to catch his eye.? Arthur Kanzaki looked at his daughter with kind eyes. With her piercing green eyes and thick wavy golden hair, she was the spitting image of her mother. He was getting on in years and wanted to see his daughter married and taken care of. The old man sighed and pushed back his gray hair as he looked at his daughter appraisingly.
?But, father...!? She fumed and sat down in the chair, giving him a sulky look.
?You are a lady and no matter how good your sword technique is, you simply cannot rely on it to live your life! Marriage is the only correct path for a young lady, Hitomi. I suppose it?s my fault for letting you grow up without a female influence,?he sighed and poured himself a glass of port.
I really wish I hadn?t been born a girl, there?s not much of a life worth living. Marriage, children, and running a household are the only thing women are supposed to do. Anything else is wrong and peculiar. There must be something wrong with me, I would rather travel and read than get married...Hitomi thought to herself as she stared at the ceiling. The plaster was yellowed and peeling. The palazzo had been grand once, but age and time had taken their toll on the once beautiful estate.
Meanwhile, on a little used road to Asturia, a horse and rider made their way slowly towards the city. The rider was slumped over the saddle, having been overtaken by exhaustion. An eye, hidden beneath unruly black hair, opened slowly. The young man sat up in surprise.
?Church bells...we?re close to the city! Hurry up and get some energy, Escaflowne!? He said to the horse before digging his heels into Escaflowne?s flanks. I?m already in Asturia...
After a short sprint, the horse Escaflowne and his rider arrived in the city. People crowded the streets, and the pervasive air of celebration filled those streets.
?You there!? He called to a young boy. ?What?s going on??
?There?s a wedding, sir. The younger brother of the governor is marrying Arthur Kanzaki?s daughter...It?s the wedding of the year!? The boy shouted excitedly, before disappearing into the crowd.
A wedding, eh? That means there?ll be water and wine and food! He grinned and rode in the direction of the cathedral.
Taa daa! Thus ends the first chapter of 'Kakan no Madonna'! I really hope you folks enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Please don't hesitate to review, because a reviewed fanfiction writer is a happy fanfiction writer. Thanks again!
