FMP* Character discussion & Who's Your Favorite?

Post by miz_lou »

*waves* Hello all ^^

Well I have fallen victim to the FMP* obsession for... *checks calendar* nearly a year now...I wonder if there is anyone else in here who's just as obsessed as I am... ^^

I have the episodes DLed, purchased boxset, DLed Fumoffu (waiting for the release of the dubbed versionto purchase~although, I don't like the Eng dub voices...they make Chidori sound like a Valley Girl ^^; ), AMVs like mad, own the mangas 1-7, trailer for TSR...not to mention my avi and signature...*giggles* wha? :-? ...don't look at me that way :-P

I absolutely adore FMP* *huggles boxset* ...I have my reasons 8) I love all the stats *flips open DVD fold~outs* and am spreading the word to my friends ^^ ...which has ultimately resulted in death threats ^^;

...hee hee, so now that you know a little bit about me, I thought I'd try to stir up some action in here, maybe get a discussion going concerning the characters...so, on that note, would you care to share who your favorite Full Metal Panic* character is?
[I posted 10 most popular characters according to websearches in the poll, please post if your favorite was not included ^^ ...I mean, some of you may love Gauron for all I know ^^]

Or...perhaps you would like to test and see what FMP* Character you are:

...this might stir things up a bit: I don't like Tessa. She's a fine Captain and she can build a kick ass submarine...but I can't figure her out in regards to Sousuke. I am a firm ChidorixSousuke fan and think it's cute if the purpose of Tessa's teasing Kaname is to get her to realize her feelings (as is hinted at in the manga)...however, if she trying to take Chidori's man

Sousuke's definitely my favorite. He's probably a big part of why I watch the show. I've always really dug characters whose backstory involves having been trained since a young age to fight, causing them to be incredibly skilled, yet socially inept, teenagers or adults. It's the same reason I took to Aeryn Sun on "Farscape" and Cassandra Cain in "Batgirl". Watching a human weapon trying to learn how to be a person is a fascinating thing.

.....Plus he's a bad ass. :D

:-P *pokes Mela* hey missy *shrug* Some people may have a thing for Gauron...I, however, do not >< persistent man

Absolutely Mandaba! I mean, as a Captain Tessa's very professional...and almost too pretty (hence why Episode 10 is so freaking hilarious! I love how Kaname handles that situation!). But as far as personality, she is sorely lacking. I mean, she is so strong as Captain, but the total opposite out of uniform: she seems so clingy with Sousuke  I shall have to teach her a lesson *giggles* I'd be all too happy to.
She is NOT that frail! I am like ''Straighten up girl, you don't need a man that badly  ''
...Sides...he's taken 8) he and Chidori just have to realize ^^ *can't wait for the third season* ...it better not be a GW ''dance around each other'' I don't think my heart can take it again! *grumbles* Although the TSR Trailer gives nothing away *sniffle*

And then there's Sousuke Narrator...

OMFG YES, he is a bad ass! *giggles* I luff him to death *glomps* He's so innocent, strict military. I especially get a kick outta him becuase I grew up a MB (military brat). *chuckles* He's not too different from people I have met before. And his situations I can especially understand; I've lived overseas a long time, so when he's introducing himself to the class I'm lmao! I have to do the same thing when people ask me where I'm from.
He reminds me so much of Heero is looks and situation, but Sousuke handles in a way differently than I think Heero would. Heero is too >strict professional< to make the goof ups we so love from Sousuke ^^
I haven't seen FarScape or BatGirl ^^; but I do agree that qualities that make us human and the process of realizing our full potential through our faults are truely amazing. I might have to check those two out ^^

Thanks for the posts guys, I hope we can continue our character discussion ^^ I'm always so excited when I see new posts in this forum :bounce:

Can I double vote?!
I mean.....
I like Sagara *and* Chidori. !art of why they are both my favorite characters (at least in this series), is because of their interaction with each other. Kind of an Abott and Costello. Priceless, priceless interaction.

Absolutely! If it'll let you *whispers* I'd double vote for those two as well *shifty eyes*

*giggles* Did anyone take that lil quiz I posted in the intro? According to it I'm Chidori *laughs* ...it is the truth *nods* I'm just as violent and passionate as she is :D

Sousake

...

yep, he's right behind Heero in the sexy appeal department. His utter cluelessness beats Kenshin's oros, and comes close to Ranma's pure chaos. Heero, however, is more calcuating and he actually HAS a clue!

As forthe other charaters, Chidori is an excellent foil for him, but sometimes I would to strangle her for not following her own advice sometimes. Gauron is got to be one of the best villains out there, just in pure evil baddy. MElissa and Kurtz aren't really fleshed out in the first season and the mange I have read so far. There are combat Queens (Noin, for one, and Lisa Hayes) and Perverts (Kuno, anyone?) since the beginning of anime. Right now they are average charaters with potental.

The Captain is a much better than Chidori charater-wise (don't hit me! Sousake and Kaname forever!) She has many levels to her and many differant roles she plays, all fit her personality and background.

The second season (the fuffroo or whatever its called) promises more Charater developing for Sousake and Kaname. I've read the first three episides on the DVD in th Manga. THis series has so much potential and with a promise oif a third season in th future (YAY!!!!) makes this series #2 on my fave list

I kinda diverted from the topic of favorite charaters but with so many in the series, I figured i wouldn't do them all justice by pointing out one. For the series rests on an excellent assemble cast. I haven't gotten this excited by an anime since Gundam Wing and Evangelion! :-P

You took the words right out of my mouth! Sousuke is so innocent. *giggles*

And I feel bad for him, really I do. But honestly, it is how I would react if I didn't know... well, honestly, I have known quiet a few people like him *curses being a military brat* but maybe that's why I enjoy the series so much... ? Vicarious revenge? *giggles*
trekkiexb5 wrote:but sometimes I would to strangle her for not following her own advice sometimes.
Good observation! And I really think that is done to point out how real her powers are, how mature they are and how dangerous they are... especially for an emotional teenager to have them. Does that makes sense? *scratches head*
I say that because Kalinin says in Episode 11 "Though a child who believes he's an adult may sometimes create rather unique results."
Teenagers girls are especially emotional. That's something I'm experimenting with.
Not following your own advice is frustrating *nods* and I'm guilty of it. But as frustrating as it is, I still use it to my advantage in my fanfic :D

Yeah, Tessa does have her good points. And you make a good point... but... she still needs to be watched. *swats her hands from Sousuke* :D
I really think they need to go into everyone's background more. They only seem to describe the background origin of the Urz Team and Sousuke. Maybe they'll do the others?

I just love the opening song for Fumoffu. It seems so fitting with the personalities to me. Fumoffu is awesome looking at Chidori and Sousuke's interactions in HS. I'm just hoping there is more character development between the two in the third season :bounce: Tho it wasn't hinted at much *sniffles* Eh *straightens up* I learned disappointment with Gundam Wing *glares*

Discussion is included in the title to encompass that ^^ Everyone is bound to have a different character and I'm curious as to why so I was hoping to stir up posts exactly like yours.
You're very insightful I really enjoyed your post. ^^

Thanks! I try. But i tend to be long-winded. Actually, the URZ team really doesn't have much of a background, except Kurtz is German who lived in Japan for a while (voice actor, perhaps?) and Melissa is a Chinese-American, with a dishonorable discharge from the Marines. Actually, without the info on her, I would guess she was an American Marine, she acts like one. Drunk and immature off-duty: cool and proffessional on the battlefield, with compassion and caring for his fellow Marines.

As for being a Military-brat, well, I'm one (and in the service, also) and anyone who has ever been part of the military one way or another (regardless of gender) either hate or like the military. Look at your anime choices: 'pretty boy' and 'kawaii' anime aren't my style. Military anime are my favorite.
