SUMMARY:
Heero Yuy opened up the book to the page she had bookmarked and it read, "XENOPHOBIA: n. hatred or fear of foreigners or strangers." The detective ran a hand through his uncombed hair; if this was a clue, then things were not going well.

Ralph Elisson recalled:
<i>"It's been a long time now, and not many remember how it was in the old days, not really. Not even those who were there to see it and hear it as it happened, and who shared, night after night, the mysterious spell created by the talk, the laughter, grease paint, powder, perfume, sweat, alcohol, and food - all blended and simmering, like a stew on the restaurant range, and brought to a sustained moment of elusive meaning by the timbres and accents of musical instruments at Minton's Playhouse... It was an exceptional moment, and the world was swinging with change."</i>

"Meiran, how can I do my job properly when you keep helping that Relena woman. All she does is meddle with her father's affairs. We have enough troubles with the store, you have family obligations." Although the words itself were meant to be questioned, his tone dictated otherwise. Wufei crossed his arms and leant on the dresser, unamused as he watched his wife remove her work clothes and laid them upon the bed.
"You're saying that being a husband is just a job for you," she tilted her head upwards, searching his face for something. Maintaining his position, he felt her eyes sink into his face and move past his body, as if he were transparent all of a sudden. Meiran put a hand to the back of her neck and massaged her sore muscles, her skin was feeling quite itchy lately.
"I didn't mean it like that," he stated from his spot.
When Meiran sat down on the bed and rotated her head from side to side, working out the kinks in her neck, Wufei took the initiative and gathed the clothes into his arms, he hated having anything dirty on the mattress.
"But that's how it came out, sometimes I wonder whether you love me, Wufei."
His back towards her, he dumped the articles into the laundry hamper before shrugging his shoulders. He'd heard those words before, it wasn't much to think of.
"I married you because we were doing the right thing at the time, it was a guarantee. We left our clan and now we have to start our own, what will your parents say if anything happened to you?"
He had married her out of pride and honour, to protect both their families as the times had gotten worse within the L5 suburban quarters. Times were hard everywhere, their city was just hit 10 years early. As Meiran tied her hair into a simple ponytail and made towards their adjacent bathroom, it was hard for her to imagine that they had ever been in love, once upon a time.
