The Wrong Guy
Chapter One

Standing so close to her was ripping him apart. Watching her kiss him felt like a knife had just been thrust through his heart. A man of about 19 with dark brown shaggy hair stood solid and unmoving next to a blonde-haired beauty of 20 kissing a tall man with dark eyes, tan skin, and black hair. She giggled as he teased her ear and neck with his kisses.
The girl wore a white dress and her veil had just been thrown back. Her smile was bright and wide, showing true happiness, a rare visage on her face. She pushed the raven-haired man back and whispered, "Damian, stop it." she giggled. "He hasn't even started yet," they both looked over at the preacher who had a small smile upon his face.
"Now, may I begin?" he asked in a mock-angry voice. The girl giggled once again and nodded. Damian took a step back and took her hands in his.
Heero watched the couple from the corner of his eye. From the guests view, he stood to the right of Damian in the best man's spot. Relena had wanted Heero a part of this ceremony, he, after all, had earned it through all of his years of service. Damian, her love and future husband, agreed whole-heartedly. He found Heero's solid outlook amusing. Heero found Damian to be kind but always to busy with work to spend enough time with Relena. And some other strange and violent feeling within Heero caused him to hate this man more than any other.
Heero, new to the rush of emotions he was feeling, turned his gaze away from the pair staring into each others eyes. He had to remain calm and placid, his face was still stone. He refused to let his guard down in front of all of these people; especially Duo and the rest who watched them form the benches.
They were in a large church, it ceiling covered in beautiful art and stained glass windows. It was an odd design for a church, but it made it lovely nonetheless. As the preacher drew to the end of his nonsense Heero heard the words that made his heart jump, his hands shake, and his lips quiver.
?If any have any reason that these two should not be wed than speak now or forever hold you peace,? the preacher said, his eyes gazing knowingly at Heero. Heero was not paying attention, however. His own eyes were shut tightly; his entire will and defensive training fighting the words that wanted to come pouring out of his mouth.
He waited; each second that passed by tore him up a little more. Finally the preacher moved on to the vows. Heero forced all thought form his mind and concentrated on something else. Unwillingly, his thoughts drifted back to the day he realized that he had lost Relena, his love, his angel, forever.

?Heero, don?t be silly. You can?t leave. You..you are my bodyguard,? Relena said with forced humor, trying to hide her own emotions. Heero, the boy she had loved since she first saw him laying unconscious on the beach, was leaving her to return to space.
?I thought you had finally gotten comfortable here on Earth,? with me she thought silently.
The boy, with an unchanging expression, shrugged his shoulders. ?I have to go back, at least for a few years. While I am gone Quatre and Wufie have promised to watch over you. Dup would have stayed, but he feels the need to accompany me,? he said monotonously.
Relena fought back tears and reached out to touch his arm. The warmth of her touch shocked his body and his mind, sending strange signals to his brain, signals which he could not decipher. ?Then take me with you,? she said almost in a whimper.
Heero?s eyes widened a bit but he quickly regained his composer. He did not, however, remove her hand. He was reluctant to. ?No, you can?t. That would compromise your safety even more than I do now. I have to go until the men following me are terminated.? He said unmoving.
Relena took a step closer to him, her soft violet eyes staring up into his hard Prussian blue ones. A sweet, flowery perfume she had put on earlier circled around him. Heero?s face did not change but inside a rush of strange emotions choked him, he grew angry at not understanding what they were. He had always felt them around Relena, but maybe, he thought, it was just protectiveness. A soldier cannot love.
?What?? he said, his hard voice going up a little higher than he meant. Relena gave a small smile.
?Oh Heero, please don?t tell me that you, with you quick soldier skills and craft, haven?t noticed? I?I? as she tried to find the words Heero suddenly became very afraid of what she would say. Of what it would do to him, he was not ready. Not ready for emotion, for love, or Relena. Especially not Relena. Heero did not want to find out what emotions she arose, but before he could stop her she finished.
?Oh Heero, I love you!? she said emphatically, grabbing both his arms with her hands. She watched his silent with tears forming I her eyes and raised a hand to touch his check.
Heero acted swiftly, he grabbed her hand and pushed it away. His face was scared, his eyes wide and he looked as if he were about to start sweating. He took a few steps back from her. What is wrong with me? He yelled silently to himself. ?No Relena,? he said, desperately trying to regain control of the situation.
Relena stared at him with a hurt look and a tear beginning to roll down her face. ?Why Heero? We have been through so much, survived against all odds. How can you stand her and tell me that you don?t want us to be together, the right way. I know you love me so just be a man and say it!? she said angrily through the tears that streamed down her face.
Heero stared at her, slowly going back into the stature he had always been. He stared at her crying face, his insides twisting at the thought that he had caused this pain. A soldier cannot love. He thought silently and fought his mouth to utter the words he, for some reason, dreaded to say.
?No Relena. I do not love you,? he said in a monotone before he turned on his heel and walked out towards the jeep awaiting him.
He did not look back, but if he had he would have seen Relena collapse to the ground with her head in her hands, crying as if there were no tomorrow. ?Fine Heero?have it your way. But I will always love you? she whispered. Heero ignored her, his heart clouding his thoughts as well as his vision. But he kept on walking, never turning back.

Heero remembered coming back a few years later to find Relena in love with another man and deemed it appropriate and safe to be her bodyguard again. She did not object and welcomed Heero back as a friend would. In all his time spent listening to Duo ramble, he had begun to realize his feelings for Relena.
It is to late now. He thought bitterly. Relena?
?You may now kiss the bride,? said the preacher as he closed the bible. Heero looked over as Damian swung Relena around and bent her back, in a romantic and very passionate kiss. She wrapped her arms around him and returned it happily. Heero?s hands clenched into fists; wanting to smack Damian?s lips off of her face.
Damian pulled her back up and they walked out of the church, followed by confetti and the guests. Heero followed in the rear and was joined by Duo.
He seemed a bit more somber, but just as talkative as usual. ?I had really thought you were going to say something? Hilde was balling, she keeps getting more and more emotional at these things, she needs to remember that she has one coming up? why didn?t you stop it? Wufie thought you were going to faint, what a moron??
?Duo? Heero said sternly.
Duo looked at him oddly and then looked down. ?I know.. I know. Shut up, right??
?Shut up,? Heero said anyway before speeding up to leave Duo behind. He went back over to Hilde, who seemed to be drowning in her own tears.
Heero saw Relena throw the bouquet; it flew towards him, along with a thick crowd of single women. Heero instinctively reached up and grabbed it just as the women got ready to pounce. Grumbling they stopped to wave as the couple entered the limousine.
Heero looked down at the white and purple flowers, the purple was bright and smelled faintly of summertime. Both reminded him of Relena?s eyes. He dropped the flowers on the ground, stepped on them, and then hurried to the front of the limousine. He slid in and they drove away. The window between the back and front was up. Heero silently thanked the driver for doing this, he did not know how much more love he could take.
