The Assassin
Chapter 6
Roxanne paced her room impatiently. She had heard of the two guards? death and it was a sign that Amanda may still be alive. If so, Roxanne figured she would call, but it had been three hours and her patience was wearing thin.
One of Roxanne?s men came in and kneeled to her. Roxanne: ?What is it?? Henchman: ?Maim, I have some distressing news. Relena has not been assassinated.? Roxanne: ?What! How is that possible?! If she survived, who was that on tv?? Henchman: ?One of her doubles maim, what we do know is that the Feds have completely combed the debris and found nothing.? Roxanne: ?If she survived, why wouldn?t she run to safety? Do you know what happened to Heero?? Henchman: ?No, his body was not found.? Roxanne: ?Send a death squad out to search for Heero and Relena. Tell them to be careful, if they find either one, kill them.? Henchman: ?Yes maim.?

Relena awoke in an empty room on some old mattress. She barely remembered the man who lunged to protect her. Everything else was still a blur. She began to sit upwards when a headache forced her to the bed. Relena gave herself time and slowly, she rose.
She began to explore the room. There was only one doorway and one window. The building was run down, she thought she had been kidnapped. She ran to the door and flung it open. Without looking, she instantly collided with what felt like a wall. Caught off balance, she started to fall, but was stopped by a pair of gentle hands.
Relena looked up and saw the man?s face. She looked at him closely. Relena: ?Heero? Is it you.? Heero stood her on her feet. Heero: ?No. You?ve mistaken me for someone else. Sit down.? Relena: ?Why are we here?? Heero: ?If you go back to the office or the hospital, you?ll end up dead.? Relena: ?I am the Queen of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation. I will not sit around or hide while my government needs me.? Heero: ?You don?t have any choice in the matter, sit down.?
Quietly, Relena sat down silenced by Heero?s order. She asked in a low tone, ?Am I a prisoner?? Heero: ?Yes. I am an assassin. When I decide to, I will kill you.? Relena: ?You could have let me die in that explosion, yet you risked your own life to save me, why?? Heero: ?It doesn?t concern you. Lie down, get some rest.? Relena: ?What?? Heero: ?You have a minor concussion, I need you in good health.? Relena: ?You realize the police will be looking for me.? Heero: ?That doesn?t concern you either.? Before Relena could get another word out, Heero walked out and locked the door.
Heero bursted through a door into the next room and knocked over furniture. He was in turmoil, wrestling between his feelings for her and his obligation to kill her. That simple question still plagued him.
Why can?t he kill her?
Why does he feel this way?
Why?
Relena crawled out the window and was sliding down the drainpipe. She almost neared the bottom, she checked her landing, and then dropped. When she turned around, Heero was right in front of her.
Heero: ?You don?t listen much, do you?? Relena: ?I don?t care who you are, I?m not afraid of anyone, I don?t need protection.?
Heero: ?Are you coming quietly??
Relena stood toe to toe with Heero, seeing he wasn?t backing down, she backed away. Heero gently took her by the arm and led her back to the warehouse.
They got inside and Relena shook off Heero?s hand. She turned a corner when she heard a bone-shattering crack behind her. She turned around to see Heero flying in mid-air.
Heero slammed against the wall and hit the floor half dazed by what happened. A dark auburn haired girl walked past and saw her. She reached for her gun and Relena jumped into a nearby room barely missing the shot.
The woman walked into the doorway. Woman: ?You must be Relena, name?s Amanda.? Relena recognized her: ?Amanda Roshakofv? You?re wanted for the assassination of three politicians.? Amanda: ?I know, I look good on America?s Most Wanted, don?t I? Tell me, do you love him as he loves you?? Relena stared at her for second.
Just as she was about to answer, Heero knocked her into the next room. He turned and asked, ?Are you hurt.? Relena shook her head and Heero went into the next room.
Heero didn?t see Amanda, but a second later, her saw her boot make contact with his chest knocking the wind out of him. Heero was knocked back into the corner of the wall. Relena charged Amanda, but she pushed her off. Amanda aimed her gun at Relena and said, ?He?s mine.?
Heero kicked the gun out of her hand and pushed her back with his other foot. Heero got up and threw his fist in her direction. Amanda blocked and drove her knee into his gut. Amanda pushed forward going through two walls back to the entrance. They hit the floor and Heero flipped Amanda of him.
Heero got up first and decked Amanda right in the face.
Amanda was shocked at the site of blood from her lip. She looked up at Heero with Relena standing behind him.
?How could you? I love you!? Cried Amanda.
Heero: ?I don?t.?
Amanda: ?So you you?ve made your choice??
Heero: ?You aren?t the one for me, Amanda. I?m not for you, there?s someone else out there for you, you should forget about us, forget about the Family, forget about me, and find the one for you.?
Amanda leaned forward and gently put her hand on his cheek. Amanda: ?I?ve already found him.
All my life, I?ve been searching for a family. I never had any parents. All I wanted, was to have a life. To have a husband, children, a home, to leave this life of violence and crime. I wanted to share that life with you ever since I saw you that day in the hospital. You were the reason I became an assassin. Don?t tell me I?ve lost that dream because of her.?
Relena: ?You?re the girl I saw in the hallway at the hospital!?
Heero: ?I?m sorry.?
Amanda: ?No!?
Amanda went for her gun. Time started to slow as it did before. Heero looked at Relena, it was time to make his decision. He could hear his heart beat hard as Amanda started to pull the gun out. Would he let Amanda kill her?
Or chose Relena.
Heero knew Relena had to die, but he couldn?t. He didn?t know. The question still plagued him.
Why?
Why should he save her?
Because?
Because? he loves her. She can?t die.
Heero: ?No!?
Heero grabbed the gun and knocked Amanda on the ground. Heero and Amanda wrestled over the gun. Amanda started to lose her grip and she tried to aim at Relena.
?Die!? Amanda shouted, then the gun went off.
A look of shock washed over Amanda?s face. She looked up at him with tears rolling down her face.
Amanda: ?Please tell me? do you love me??
Heero: ?Amanda-?
Amanda: ?Please.?
Heero was left speechless. He tried to tell her no, but Amanda realized it, and died.
Watching her die forced Heero back into his cold state. He stepped back and stared at her body. Relena came to his side and said, ?I?m sorry.? Heero just stared. Just then, something caught Relena?s eye. She looked and saw a dozen men with guns standing outside the door.
It was her turn to chose.
Relena: ?Look out!? Heero turned and saw the men. Before he could move, Relena had lunged and pushed Heero out of the way.
The men fired their machine guns. Bullets poured through the building as the onslaught continued. Heero stared at Relena in confusion. Heero: ?Relena-? Relena: ?You?re not a very good liar, Heero.? Heero was about to answer when a grenade hit the landed right next to his head.
The guys armed with machine guns ducked for cover, the whole wall exploded.
