Broken Glass (GW500 #29 Challenge response)
Author's Notes: Good gracious has it been a LONG time since I've posted something new... This is most definitely unbeta-ed, but the grammar shouldn't be too bad (I hope). Let it also be noted that this isn't like the other challenge responses. I took the typical scenario and added a little twist to it.
Enjoy!
Title: Broken Glass
Challenge: GW500 #29 ? ?The Morning After?
Genre: Romance/Angst
Pairing: 1xR
Rating: PG-13-ish (just to be safe)
Words: 300
Relena woke to the feel of the sun?s rays searing the exposed skin of her back. Some sadistic person had opened the curtains, freeing the sun to cause whatever havoc it wished. Groggily, the young politician shifted to shield herself from the unrepentant beams and instantly froze at the sensation of satin sheets brushing against bare skin. That wasn?t normal? What on earth? Memories of the previous night came rushing back.
?Oh my God.?
Frantically, an arm flew to the other side of the bed, searching for the Prussian blue-eyed man who had wiped away years of stress and fears with his gentle hands and even kinder soul. For once, she had been able to forget that she upheld the world?s peace on her shoulders; in his arms, she was just an ordinary woman.
Discovering nothing but air, Relena sat up quickly, carefully scanning the recesses and shadows of her bedroom for any trace of the elusive Gundam pilot. Nothing. She ran her hands over the sheets, faint indentations on the pillow and mattress the only clues that another person had been there. Valiantly, she fought back the bitter tears that threatened to fall.
A knock resounded through the spacious room. ?Miss Relena??
Hastily, she tossed the covers over the entire length of the bed and grabbed the robe that was resting on the bedside table, pulling it on to conceal her nude body. ?Yes, Pagan??
?Lady Une just called in,? began the elderly butler through the door. ?She wanted to inform you that Preventer Heero Yuy handed in his resignation early this morning and has disappeared.?
?Is that all??
?Yes, it is.? Then sensing his charge?s distress, he added, ??I am so sorry.?
This time, Relena did nothing to curb the violent sobs that wracked her body.
?He didn?t stay.?
Enjoy!

Morrighan... what did you do?!?!?! How could you leave poor Relena like that? No, no, no, no, no, no!!!!! ::gets panicky:: You can't let Heero be that cold. Me... I'm supposed to be an author that can get away with angst. Not you, Morrighan!!! I expect happiness from you. You can't do this to me. I can write angst, but I can't take it. Noooo!!!!! You march right back to your computer and fix it.
::stands over Morrighan, waiting for her to write an alternate ending::
Overly exaggerated

Awesome piece, Morrighan. Sadly, mine won't be finished in time for the challenge, but I'm posting it anyway. Once again, this was a wonderful story... and only three-hundred words. How do you do it?

The Importance of Tomorrow:
The clarity of the hindsight we obtain from a new day may be 20/20, but it provides us with biased knowledge of the experiences and emotions that were-- Not what could have been, if only we had the chance to look through those premonitory eyes.

Hell if I know. This is my first successful attempt at taming my tendency to spout out multi-chapter sagas.Tomorrow wrote:Once again, this was a wonderful story... and only three-hundred words. How do you do it?

Damn that boy! (j/k)
Nicely done, Morri. It was rather distressing since Heero didn't stay, but I liked how you put it all together.

Poor Relie... *hugs Relena*
HEERO YOU BASTARD! HOW COULD YOU?!
That was very good, Morri-chan, but I wish it was with happy ending... *sighs* Oh well, you can't have everything you want...

I think it would be very nice to have an alternate ending- maybe so people could pick which one they wanted? *hopeful* But seriously, that was really a beautiful piece. You manage to pack so much emotion into so few words. Great job.
