The next day was Saturday, and as was their custom, Heero and Relena were having lunch in the garden. Relena had pulled an old quilt out of the attic, and spread it on the lawn. Lunch had been brought out to them and consumed, the dishes scattered across the blanket. Relena was now reading a book, her brow furrowed slightly in concentration. The slight breeze caught her hair, whisking it gently along the lines of her face.
Heero propped himself up on one elbow and watched her. His other hand tore aimlessly at the grass, a small pile of grass tearings gathered in front of him.
He studied her face, the gentle curve of her lips, the quirk of her eyebrows as she reached an interesting passage in her book. Her hair hung loose around her shoulders today, and long, honey-colored strands danced across her face.
Heero had made a career out of watching Relena. He monitored her almost constantly while she was at her office, observed her every move at political events from the sidelines, spied on her social parlays at balls and other gatherings. But he had never really looked at her, not observed her for the simple, elegant beauty that she was. When he did stop to look at her and really see her, he found it very difficult to tear his eyes away from her.
Without looking up from her book, Relena spoke. "Heero, you are boring a hole through me with that stare. Is there something wrong?"
Heero was startled out of his reverie. "No," he said gruffly, and too quickly. He immediately cursed his words and his haste to use them. Relena looked up from her book, and smirked. She looked for all the world like a lioness ready to pounce. She's been hanging around Dorothy too much lately, thought Heero sourly.
"Right. Uh-huh, Mr. Perfect Soldier, I'll just bet there's nothing wrong." Her eyebrows raised slightly. "This wouldn't have anything to do with me accepting Duo's offer of a second date, would it?"
Heero looked down at his grass pile quickly. If Relena were to look into his eyes, the stricken expression on his face would give everything away. He concentrated on carefully separating the mound of clippings into three separate mounds, taking note to make sure they were all the same size. "Of course not," he said, hoping he sounded convincing. He gathered careful control of his features, and looked up. "Do you know where you're going yet?"
Relena frowned slightly. She was certain she hadn't mentioned to anyone that Duo had told her to pick the spot for their next date, but still...She shrugged. "I haven't decided yet," she confessed. "Do you have any suggestions?"
Heero looked away again, not wholly willing to help Relena plan her date with Duo, when a sudden thought struck him. Duo had the social graces of a mule on roller skates. If they were to go somewhere very upscale and high-class, Duo would certainly make a fool of himself, and fall quickly out of favor with Relena. He quickly covered his self-satisfied smirk, and met Relena's gaze again.
"What about Le Chanson Bleu?" Heero knew that Le Chanson Bleu was one of Relena's favorite restaurants, and extremely upscale.
Relena brightened, but then a troubled expression crossed her features. "That is a good idea, Heero, but Le Chanson is so expensive...I'd feel guilty asking Duo to pay for a meal there, when his income certainly can't support something like that."
Heero snorted slightly, his mind scrambling to find a loophole. He found it. "Relena, don't you have about 10 gift-certificates from Le Chanson accrued, compliments of various dignitaries? Why don't you use a few of them?" L3's minister of foreign affairs in particular was also fond of Le Chanson, and constantly in fear of his standing with Relena and the World Nation.
Relena brightened again. "That's a wonderful idea, Heero," she said, delighted. "I'm sure Duo wouldn't mind, were I to tell him I have these gift certificates to use up." She stood up, brushing grass off of her backside. "I'll call him right now." She strode briskly toward the house.
Heero remained seated on the blanket, watching her departing figure. Part of him rested secure in the knowledge that soon, Relena would not want to spend any more time with Duo. But another part of him felt miserably guilty.
That was a cruel trick to play, you know, his conscience insisted. Not only was it cruel to do such a thing to Relena, but isn't Duo supposed to be your friend?
Heero frowned. He'd liked Duo a whole lot better when he wasn't trying to get close to Relena. Another part of his mind insisted that he stop and question why he was trying so hard to keep Relena single, but he quickly quashed those thoughts, before they overtook his mind.
. . . .
Duo was quite amenable to Relena's suggestion for their date, and they arranged a day and time to meet. Duo terminated the connection, and stared at the screen thoughtfully for a moment. Hilde chose that moment to enter the room.
"Duo, you know that phone would work a whole lot better if you turned it on," she quipped. Duo did not turn, and Hilde immediately sobered. She leaned over his chair, resting her chin on top of his head and staring at their muted reflection in the vidphone screen. "What's wrong?"
"That was Relena," he started, slightly hesitant.
"Did she back out of your date?" Hilde's brows pinched together worriedly, and Duo shook his head, shaking Hilde in the process.
"Naw, nothing like that."
"Then what's wrong?" Duo stirred, and Hilde backed off as he stood up and began to pace.
"She wants to go to Le Chanson Bleu," he said, his voice worried.
"Le Chanson Bleu? Ooh, that's so romantic! I've been taken there on dates before. It's nice." She wrinkled her nose. "But expensive. You even have to pay for the water! How're you going to afford that?"
Duo shrugged. "She said she had some gift certificate she had to get rid of, and not to worry about it."
"So what's the problem?"
Duo stopped his nervous movements and turned to look at her, a panicked expression on his face. "Cause I don't know the first thing about how to behave in a restaurant like that! What if the menus are all in French, and I end up ordering something disgusting? What if I say or do something stupid and insult the waiter? I've never had to buddy up to high-class stiffs before. I'll stick out like a sore thumb!" He resumed his pacing with greater fervor.
Hilde squared her shoulders. "Duo. For one thing, the menus are in French, but they have English translations. Even if they didn't, as long as you don't order anything that contains the word 'l'escargot', you'll be fine. As for your behavior, true, you can be a little...coarse. But as long as you keep your voice down, you'll do just fine. Oh, and no Sweepers jokes!"
That got him to smile, and some of the tension eased out of his frame. "You think I can handle this?"
Hilde grinned. "I think you're going to knock Relena's socks off," she said, then frowned. "But there is one detail we do need to attend to, before this date of yours." She grabbed her purse in one hand and his arm in the other.
"What? Where are we going?" Duo allowed himself to be dragged out the front door by his petite roommate.
"Duo, there is one thing you should be worried about, and that is your wardrobe. You don't have anything suitable to wear to Le Chanson Bleu, and you are most certainly not wearing that monstrosity of a suit that you wear to funerals!"
"But...but..."
"No buts, Duo." Hilde's voice was firm. "You need to be dressed to kill, not cripple with laughter. Besides, I'm much better at picking out clothes for you than you are. We're going shopping!"
. . . .
Relena's mother found her in the sitting room, just as she was turning off the vidphone after her conversation with Duo. Relena turned and smiled at her mother in welcome, and the older woman made a show of examining a book resting on a shelf opposite the vidphone desk.
"Did you need to talk to me, Mother?" inquired Relena politely.
"Yes, dear, I did," Mrs. Dorlian said, turning to face her adopted daughter. "I couldn't help but overhearing your conversation with that young man...what is his name..."
"Duo Maxwell?" offered Relena.
"Yes, Mr. Maxwell. I couldn't help but overhear that you are planning a...another date with Mr. Maxwell."
"And...?" asked Relena, beginning to get irritated.
"Don't you think that this...date of yours is ill-advised, Relena?" Her mother tried to pose the question as innocently as possible, but Relena saw right through the air of forced politeness.
"You don't approve of him, do you, Mother?"
Mrs. Dorlian sighed. "It's not that I disapprove of him, Relena, it's just that I think a young woman of your social standing could afford to find someone with a little bit more..." She trailed off, raising her eyebrows to state the words her voice wouldn't sound.
Relena's own eyes narrowed. "So, in other words, I'm supposed to sacrifice happiness for the right image, am I correct?"
Mrs. Dorlian shook her head ruefully. "Not that, Relena...I just think that you..." She changed the subject abruptly. "What about Heero? He's a perfectly nice young man, and well-accepted among most of the circles. You'd be sure to fit right in with someone like him."
Relena's temper flared. "Why does everyone think I want to go out with Heero, or am already dating him, for that matter?" she snapped.
Mrs. Dorlian looked surprised. "But Relena, honey, I thought you two were a couple! After all, I was under the impression that there was some mutual attraction between you two."
Relena scowled. "It was nothing more than a silly teenage crush, Mother," she muttered, her voice conveying more than a little hurt. "He doesn't think of me in that way."
"Oh honey...I'm sure if you just gave it some time..."
"I've given it almost four years already, Mother! He would've said something, by now. He would have given me at least some little indication that he had feelings for me. But he doesn't. To him, I am just a figurehead that needs protection, in order to maintain the peace." Her voice grew pleading. "But Duo isn't like that. He treats me like...well, he treats me like a person, Mother. And I..." She suddenly didn't trust her voice, nor did she want to admit to her mother that she just may be falling in love with the man her mother had just finished belittling to Relena.
Mrs. Dorlian's expression grew slightly angry. "Relena, if it were up to me, I'd give you and Mr. Maxwell my blessing. But it's not up to me. And I think you'll see that, if you continue to see him, there will be others who are much less accepting of Mr. Maxwell than I." She turned to walk out of the room, and stopped when she reached the door. "I daresay that if you bring him to Le Chanson Bleu, as I overheard you planning, that you will see just what I am talking about for yourself." She let her words hang in the air between them for a moment before stepping out of the room.
Relena waited until she was certain her mother was out of earshot, and heaved a sigh of despair. She had had that same concern; that Duo would not know how to behave himself at the restaurant. What would she do if he made a scene?
But then Relena squared her shoulders resolutely. Duo had been willing to show her a bit of his world, and she had not been afraid. He could certainly do the same for her, couldn't he? Not only that, but she was certain that, were Duo to know just what her mother thought of him, he would be as eager for the chance to prove Mrs. Dorlian wrong as was Relena. She walked out of the sitting room with a new sense of determination.
. . . .
Duo and Relena had set their date for the following Friday evening. For both parties, the week seemed to pass by slowly, with casual disregard for their anxiousness. Duo spent most of the week being coached by Hilde in how to behave properly around the type of people sure to frequent Le Chanson Bleu. Relena spent the week avoiding Dorothy and her prying questions.
Friday finally arrived. Relena had convinced Duo that it would be best if her chauffeur picked him up, and they drove to the restaurant in Relena's limousine. For appearances, she explained, her limo would be more well-received than his motorcycle. "And I am not riding a motorcycle in a dress!" Relena was most firm on that point.
The chauffeur had left when Relena was still getting ready for the evening to pick up Duo. After a few last-minute fussings with his outfit, Hilde sent him out the door with a quick kiss on his cheek, and a whispered, "Make me proud."
I'll try, Hilde, he thought ruefully.
--
The limousine returned to the estate to pick up Relena, and Duo stepped out of the limousine to meet her. He tugged at his collar nervously, and hoped he didn't look as ridiculous as he felt. He heard a soft click as the front door opened, and Relena stepped outside.
Duo felt the world around him evaporate. Relena was wearing royal blue--just like the first time he had ever seen her, he thought--only this time, the dress was of a soft, watered silk, the hemline just brushing her knees. The bodice was fitted, with double spaghetti straps crossing over her shoulders, and the skirt flared out and gracefully fluttered around her hips. She looked absolutely, breathtakingly, achingly beautiful.
Relena posed shyly for Duo for a few minutes, then tugged the matching sash around her shoulders a bit more tightly. Duo stepped forward, and took her hand, brushing the back gently with his lips.
"You look absolutely gorgeous, 'Lena," he whispered.
She giggled. "You don't look so rough yourself."
Hilde had done well. She had found Duo a dark, charcoal grey suit that filled out the ranginess of his form nicely, enhancing his boyish handsomeness to a more real, defined beauty. She had also managed to find a dress shirt in a shade of cobalt, which almost matched his eyes. The outfit was, he had to admit, much nicer-looking than his funeral tux.
He allowed himself the luxury of staring at her for a few moments more, then snapped himself out of his reverie, and handed her a wrapped bundle. "For you," he said, almost shyly.
Relena giggled again. "More flowers, Duo? You didn't have to." She unwrapped the paper, and a bright smile spread across her face.
Duo shuffled his feet nervously. "I, uh, well, I already got you roses, and, I figured, well, you are called the Dove of Peace and all. I tried to find an olive branch, but didn't have any luck. I figured that lilies were just as good."
Relena giggled. "They're beautiful, Duo. I love them." She checked to make sure the flowers would have enough water for the evening, and turned toward the limo. Duo hastened to her side to open the door for her. She giggled and stepped into the car, and he followed suit, closing the door behind him.
From the shadows of a room on the second story, Heero watched the pair leave, his eyes narrowed. In a few hours, he thought to himself, this whole silliness with Duo will have ended. He turned away from the window, quashing the lingering threads of guilt wrapped around his conscious, and walked slowly out of the room.
. . . .
Le Chanson Bleu was a restaurant for the elite. Relena had had no difficulties making a reservation there. They were seated right away, and it seemed the date was doomed from the outset.
It was not from lack of trying, however, that caused the problems that inevitably arose. Duo, while definitely out of his league, tried very hard to remember what Hilde had taught him. He pulled Relena's chair out from the table and waited for her to sit down before seating himself. He sat up straight. He unfolded his napkin and placed it in his lap. He sipped, not slurped, from his water glass, and held back his cliched comments when their waiter arrived with the wine list and dinner menus.
He studied the menu carefully. At least Hilde had been right about the translations. He'd at least know the English name of what he was eating. He stared at the menu, puzzled, then leaned over to whisper to Relena.
"Psst...'Lena...Where do you find a cheeseburger on this thing?"
Relena giggled behind her hand, though her expression was slightly exasperated. "Duo, they don't serve cheeseburgers here."
"Oh." He stared at the menu with more concentration. "What about spaghetti?"
"That's Italian food."
"Hmm." He fought the urge to turn the menu upside down and peer at it. "Do they have a special of the day here or something?"
Relena set her own menu down. "I would suggest the boeuf Bourguignon. It's very good here," she said thoughtfully. She glanced at Duo and giggled at his puzzled expression as his eyes darted back and forth between her face and his menu.
"Boof begonia? What's that?"
"No, Duo. Boeuf Bourguignon. It's a kind of beef stew made with Burgundy wine. I think you'd like it. It's not too wild."
Duo thought about this. "Does it have...what did Hilde call it...'l'escargot' in it?"
Relena stared at him curiously. "Snails? No, it doesn't have snails in it."
So that's what l'escargot is, he thought ruefully. Wish Hilde would've explained that to me...
Their waiter returned to their table, and cleared his throat politely. Relena smiled at the waiter politely.
"I would like the saumon aux artichauts et crabe 'Bearnaise'," she said, and the waiter nodded curtly and turned to Duo. Relena glanced at him. "Did you want to try the boeuf Bourguignon?" she asked.
"Sure. Boof begonia. Sounds like an adventure to me!"
Relena glared at Duo, but said nothing. The waiter coughed slightly, and raised his eyebrows, but did not comment. "Tres bien, monsieur et mademoiselle." He bowed stiffly at the waist, and departed from their table.
Duo watched his form depart. "Geez Louise," he muttered, "has that guy been taking brass-pole-up-the-ass lessons from Wufei or something?"
"Duo!" Relena gasped, shocked. Fortunately, the waiter was out of earshot.
Duo, startled by her tone of voice, looked up to meet her angry expression, and flushed. "I'm sorry, 'Lena," he said. "I didn't mean to embarrass you. Guess I've been spending too much time with the Sweepers lately." He grinned.
Relena leveled him with a stern expression. "That's all right. Just please, try to restrain your comments from now on, all right?" She smiled slightly. "I'd hate to get kicked out of my favorite restaurant on our second date." Besides, she mused silently, we have my mother--not to mention Heero--to prove wrong about you.
. . . .
The rest of their meal progressed smoothly. Duo kept his tongue in check, only occasionally muttering comments about the waitstaff and their fellow diners under his breath to Relena. Sometimes she would frown, and glance around to see if others had overheard. Most of the time, though, she giggled.
'Boof begonia', to Duo's surprise, turned out to be quite good, and he was overflowing with praise for his waiter when the gentleman returned to check on them. The man managed to contain his surprise, and gave a stiff thanks.
"Duo, I don't think anyone has ever given anyone here such an...enthusiastic appreciation of their meal before," Relena giggled after the waiter had left.
"Why not? The food's good. The service could leave something to be desired, but the food is good."
Relena shrugged slightly. "You thank your waitstaff by the size of your tip at a place like this, not by complimenting them out loud."
Duo snorted. "In that case, he'd better be glad I complimented him in voice, because he really didn't earn a tip, in my opinion."
Relena sighed and shook her head. She knew the waiter was about to bring the dessert menus to them, but at this point in time, she was more eager to chalk up her losses and leave the restaurant before Duo really decided to pull out all the stops and embarrass the both of them. "I'm all ready to go. What about you?"
"Sure thing. I just have to..." He glanced around. "...err...do these types of places have restrooms?"
Relena giggled. "Of course they do," she said. "Why don't you go find it, and I'll pay the bill? I'll meet you in the foyer." Duo nodded, and wandered off to find the restrooms.
--
Finding the restrooms turned out to not be as difficult as he had expected. They didn't even have funny names in foreign languages on the door, as he had also expected. He was leaving the restrooms and heading back toward the front of the restaurant when he heard two girls talking.
"Did you see? Wasn't that Relena Dorlian at table I-6 tonight?"
"I thought her name was Relena Peacecraft."
Duo edged around the corner, and realized how close to the kitchens he was. Two young women, neither of them older than fifteen or sixteen, were discussing his date over the dishes they were piling into the dishwasher. The loud sounds of the kitchen masked the sound of his approach, but he could still hear them talking.
"No," explained the first girl patiently. "Though that was her real father's name. King of the Sank Kingdom, remember? Well, she went back to her adoptive father's name after the Eve Wars, when she became Vice Foreign Minister."
"Oh, I see," said the second girl, in a voice that sounded as though she didn't understand at all. "Who was she with?"
"I don't know," replied the first girl with a shrug. "No one I recognized."
"Wasn't she with Heero Yuy?"
"Nuh uh," replied the first, "and I don't know why. Those two are meant for each other, can't you tell?"
"Uh huh," said the second, her voice dreamy. "I wonder why she was with that guy? I mean, he was kind of cute, I guess--"
"Ewww! You thought he was cute??"
"I don't know! Hey, leave off, alright? He's cuter than some!"
"Fine," said the first in a dismissive voice. "Anyway, you should have heard the things Claude was saying about him. I guess he's got no manners."
The second made a tsking noise. "Claude had to deal with him? Ugh. What did Claude have to say about him?"
"That he had to be a low-class nobody, with those manners," said the first in a vindictive tone. "I guess he had no idea what he was ordering. He couldn't even read the French on the menu!"
"So?" said the second derisively. "Neither can you."
"Yeah, but do you see me trying to order off the menu? I guess Miss Relena had to order for him."
The second girl giggled. "I wonder what she's doing, wasting her time with someone like that? Even if she wasn't going with Heero, you'd think the least she could do would be to choose someone within her same social standing--"
Duo could take no more. He stepped into the dish room, hands clenched at his sides. "I'll have you know, ladies, that your precious Miss Relena is with me because she wants to be with me. I don't personally give a rat's ass what you think of me. Hell, you probably really don't want to know what I think of you. But I'll tell you this much: If you're so hung up on "social standing" that you won't give anyone who matches your level the time of day, you're in for a lonely life, girls, because you'll be missing out on knowing a lot of people. But, in your cases, I hardly think it'll make a difference. In fact, you'll probably be doing those people a favor." He turned to leave, and was confronted by his waiter.
"Is there a problem, sir? Shall I help you to find the door?"
Duo sneered at the man. "No, thank you, I can find it just fine by myself, Claude," he said derisively. "Oh, and Claude? Just be glad I'm not the one leaving your tip. As far as meals go, this place ranks high, but as far as standard common courtesy from the waitstaff goes, you don't rank higher than toilet scum." He turned on his heel and stomped toward the door, leaving a very stunned trio of people in his wake.
--
Duo literally stomped to the entrance of the restaurant, whisking past a very startled Relena, who had been idly chatting with the maitre'd while she waited for Duo. She gave the maitre'd a hasty good-bye, and hurried after her date.
Duo had blown off the valet with a rude gesture, and was coursing through the parking lot, searching for the limo on his own, when Relena finally caught up with him.
"Duo, what on earth is going on? Why did you storm out of the restaurant like that? Hey! Look at me!" She reached for his sleeve, and tugged at his arm when he didn't even slow his pace. He whipped his arm out of her reach and continued walking away from her. She stopped, and placed her hands on her hips. "You might as well stop," she called after him. "The limo's not in the parking lot. I sent him home while we dined. I'll have to call for him to come back here to pick us up." Duo finally stopped, and whirled to confront her.
"Why did you choose a place like this, Relena? You knew I would have no clue how to go about fitting in. Did you do this just to humiliate me?"
Relena stopped as if physically slapped. "Duo--I--" Her eyes narrowed. "All right. Who did you overhear talking about us, and what did they say?"
Duo turned away angrily. "Like it even matters," he said, his voice heavy with anger and hurt. "I have half a mind to think you did this on purpose. Why, Relena?" He turned to face her again, his face a mask of emotional pain. "What did I ever do to you? I mean, if you had such a lousy time on our last date, why did you decide that this was the best way to get back at me? Hell, why did you even agree to go out with me again in the first place?" He turned his back to her, not wanting her to see the anger and betrayal in his face any longer.
Relena had almost felt sorry for him, but her temper flared at his words. "Duo Maxwell!" she hissed, her own voice edged with anger. "How dare you imply that I only went on this date as revenge!" She grabbed his arm and spun him around. "Did you honestly think that I would have had the time or the desire to do such a thing? I thought you knew me better than that!"
"But--"
"But nothing," she said firmly. "I would have gone out on a second date with you, even if you suggested we eat at a truck stop. In fact, Le Chanson wasn't even my idea. It was Hee--" She stopped abruptly. It had been Heero's suggestion, hadn't it? Had his motives been entirely innocent, or was this a ploy? She shook her head, not wanting to dwell on the idea that Heero had purposely done this to humiliate Duo.
Duo was looking at her curiously. "Whose idea was it, if it wasn't yours?"
Relena shook her head again. "It doesn't matter, really. What matters is that I wanted to go on this date with you at all, right?" Her eyes flickered toward the entrance of the restaurant, where a small crowd had gathered, and her anger at the situation rose anew. What hypocrites! she thought. Well, if they're expecting a show, far be it from me to disappoint them!
Duo made a noncommittal noise, and she turned to look at him. "You don't believe me, do you?" Her expression changed abruptly to a mischievous smirk. "If I was in this for revenge, do you think I would do something like this?" She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck, and stood on her tiptoes to catch his lips in a kiss.
Duo looked very startled at first, then his eyes closed, and he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him, leaning into their embrace. When they finally parted, she regarded him affectionately. "I asked you out on a second date because I wanted to, silly," she said matter-of-factly. "I chose this restaurant because it's one of my favorite places, and I wanted to share it with you." She looked away. "I'm sorry if the staff didn't agree with my choice of dates. But they aren't in control of whom I see and do not see. I am."
Duo blushed slightly, and looked at the ground. "'Lena...I...I'm sorry for saying those things, and for my behavior in the restaurant," he started. "I just didn't--" He stopped when she touched a finger to his lips.
"Save it for a little later, Duo. I'd rather have this discussion somewhere other than the restaurant parking lot, if you don't mind."
Duo chuckled, and glanced at the entranceway of the restaurant himself, where the small crowd was beginning to disperse, the mutters of their conversations drifting across to where they stood. "Guess this ins't the best place to have a heart-to-heart, huh?"
Relena giggled. "Want to go somewhere for coffee?" she asked, and smirked slightly. "We didn't exactly get a chance to at Le Chanson, and I don't think I'll want to go back there for a while."
Duo finally gave her a lopsided smirk. "Fine," he said, "but this time, I get to choose the restaurant."
Relena giggled. "I don't care if you take me to the greasiest diner in town," she said, "as long as you're with me."
Duo smiled down at her, and laced the fingers of one hand with hers. "I might know of a few places," he said nonchalantly. "Are you sure you want me to choose?"
Relena smiled up at him. "I'm sure," she said as they walked out of the parking lot.

Wow, This is sooo amazing! That was sooo evil of Heero! But in reality he's just screwing himself over because NOW Relena knows of his possible conniving against Duo. I think that was horribly mean of him, but I think that it's made them closer! It was also horrible of Relena's mother to say that stuff about Duo...she doesn't even know him! I also think that Duo kinda sorta handled himself well when confronting those girls in the restaurant. I'm liking this fec more and more! Post the next one soon please!
Peace out!

Thank you!!! I figured that Heero would have a bit of a jealous streak, when it comes to something that he wants. *grins* We'll have to see how Relena chooses to deal with him, because you know she knows that this wasn't all a coincidence! ^^Kanya Barton wrote:Wow, This is sooo amazing! Relena's mom IS mean. High society and all that. The girls in the restaurant deserved a dressing-down...that was fun to write.
I'm so glad you're enjoying this fic! I'll have the next chapter posted soon. Thanks so much for reading! ^___^

Oh, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Heero fan, too...but even I was having a hard time deciding which one was going to win, when I was writing this! They're both such good candidates...but I did choose, eventually. ^^lilac310 wrote:I'm really amazed...it's just awesome...lol..Now, I think I'm confused...Is it gonna be Heero or Duo?.....I like Heero a LOT (that would be an understatement 'cuz I LOVE him..whahaha)..but there's a voice in the back of my head telling me to vote for Duo....WAHH..I can't decide!!!!...WEll, you better post the next chapter a lot SOONER!!!!! I'm gonna go mad if you don't!...THe excitement's killing me...Now, what are you waiting for reading this?..Get back to WORK and start Chapter 5....lolz

*grins* Ahh, poor Heero...in love and jealous to boot...what's a man to do? I think he picked the wrong option, though.Mellie wrote:how could Heero be so mean? it must be love? Or he's confused? i guess I'll have to keep on reading.

I'd have posted earlier, but I was out of state for a coupla weeks.... ^^;; Ah well.
I like it. All the intrigue really adds to the realism of the part, lol. Heero scheming to get rid of Duo, Relena's mom being a biotch, and Duo just kinda doin the best he can to fumble through things.
The last scene was the best though. I was just itching to slap the waitstaff myself! They were damned rude.

Thank you!! I'm glad you're liking this! I just had this idea that if Duo and Relena ever tried to get together, there would be some hiccups with regard to their different backgrounds...not to mention I didn't think Heero would give up without a fight. ^_~ And you're right--the waitstaff was rude. I wanted to slap them, myself. ^^Cailamaia wrote:I'd have posted earlier, but I was out of state for a coupla weeks.... ^^;; Ah well.
